Dr. Manmohan Singh has done the best for our country and besties are Nehru, Atalji, Narasimha Rao, Rajivji and MMS on the development of our country. Current government is a failure in every sector...
Dr MMS is the Pioneer of the LPG model but in Reality Its Indira gandhiji who marked the beginning of Liberalization of Indian Economy by Introducing the Sixth Five Year Plan😊👍
@iTs Messiah: I think the recent bombing of our airbase in Jammu is much bigger than the Balokot strike. Congress in 60 years had gradually made Article 370 irrelevant with the consent of Kashmiris in a democratic faction. And Making Ram Mainder by Blackmailing judges is nothing to be proud of.
Efforts of Economists like Manmohan Singh,Montek Singh, Kaushik Basu,Raghuram Rajan, etc for 23 years is destroyed by Modi in just 7 years." Wah Modiji Wah" what's a great achievement.
Please have Dr. Kumar on more often. It was such a pleasure to hear from someone who actually had some substantial and intelligent information to provide on your show.

Social harmony to levels of partition days. Social Indicators to pre independence levels. Institutions to pre British levels. Social Structure to levels of Manusmriti. What an effort to regain past glory !!
To some it up 1991 we had "Haves and Haves -not", in 2021 we have "Haves More , Haves, Have -not" the disparity gap has widened... Since 2014 govt economic policies, a lot of haves have been pushed back to Have-not...
The market increases the lowest of incomes Unfortunately our dear Modi ji decided to follow his own heart, instead of every expert, into demonetisation.
Economic reforms is not a one time reform. As the nation experience shortfall, the necessary changes are brought about.Look at MANREGA,Land reforms,Right to education,Right to food, they all were brought as the need for nation.
Agree UPA did realize that role of government in public goods sphere specially to protect the poor sections and start initiating those. What we white collar workers don't realize is that we earn more when the population below our economic level has enough money to buy the goods that we help produce and distribute in economy. The investment in MANREGA, education, along with being a moral obligation was also a wise use of tax money of middle and rich class in creating more wealth for them.
if liberalisation had not happened UA-cam would not have been available in India and you would still be screaming down the land line saying hello hello hello and would have been watching Doordarshan on black and white.
Sujitji, Prof Arunkumar is right, if you are "a have not". (definitely a huge majority) Mr Chauhan is right if you are "a have". (definitely in minority) There was no debate because there was no common ground. Unless the focus of current regime changes from religious majoritarianism to economic majoritarianism (which is unlikely); the daunting task will definitely become impossible.
Education Loan is costlier than Car Loan, Any damn loan is way easier for rich than poorer and we dont talk about it. Govt job could have sustained economy very well but our IIT and IIM graduate who are top of line dont even consider it as private company pay way too much as compared to it. To be honest our economy is collapsing and we have no way or plan to revive it.
What Tarun said is correct.... We would have still tuning the antina from the roof, job hunting is at the peak, we are still driving an ambassador car and mobile and other things are nowhere to be seen. There are two sides of a coin.... I want to see the bright side of it.
Manmohan Singh's reform was good for the middle class and poverty was also reducing but Modi's reforms are only good for the rich the middle class is shrinking and more people have been pushed into poverty. The optimism in the economy during the Manmohan Singh regime was palatable but now passim in the middle class has set in while the rich are laughing and going to the bank. The poor are dependant on Dole. BJP proudly says they are giving free food to 80 crore people in other wards 60 % of Indians are living on Charity.
Professor Arun kumar sir your observation and inputs on this topic was superb i feel lot of people still will not be able to understand what he is telling also Tarun sir view on standard of living was also correct but as prof sir told still lot of people have not got access to this standard of living
As a citizen from Dravidian region I have seen a lot of change in my circle post '91, most of them are farmers and employees of private sectors. And after 2016 i have seen people around me not spending much and started saving due to economic policies of this current govt.
An anecdote from the distant( yes ,it feels sooo long ago ) past but relevant today : One of the post liberalisation budgets was being discussed by Pranoy Roy and his team. One of the panelists was Late L C. Jain ( father of Shreenivasan Jain presently of NDTV ) : others were mostly industrialists. They were generally appreciative of the budget. Prof. Jain raised the issue of rural poor especially women and asked how was it going to help " Protein " intake amongst them . ( He raised other issues too . ) Pranoy Roy being the cheerleader , simply brushed aside Prof. Jain's concerns. Well, the situation hasn't changed much in the last 30 yrs .Prof. Jain was talking about malnutrition .

Are We Living In A Police State?"Justice Deepak Gupta On Father Stan Swamy's Death, UAPA "UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) should not remain in the statute book in the present form", said Justice Gupta. The time has come that section 124A (of the IPC; on sedition) be held as unconstitutional", said Justice Deepak Gupta on Saturday. He also said that a law like the UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) should not remain in the statute book in the present form.

I know you wanted to hear something more meaningful from Tarun , to be frank, he is not the right guy for this topic. He doesn't seem to have any deep understanding of the economic to comment on. He is just filing the space and doing what he has learned, management fluff. Here are my two cents, 92 Liberalization (so called) was specially designed to impact 'wants' and not the 'needs'. So middle and upper class got benefitted and poor never realized it.
If we removed restrictions on markets and increase taxes on the rich to spend on infrastructure instead of building statues, temples and new parliament buildings
One effect of 1991 that is usually not mentioned because it's not strictly economic, is that private media ownership was liberalised completely. So for the last 30 years we've been fed the line that socialism, government ownership and so on are inherently evil, and that privatisation is inherently good. So much so that young people reflexively hate socialism, communism and so on. Whereas all systems require a balance between the two. We're now seeing the perils of over-privatising healthcare, or of other public goods. We're heading in the same direction as the USA, in which poverty is increasing, income inequality is gross and development indicators are dropping through the basement.
I agree entirely with Prof Arun Kumar, because the so called liberalisation was done under the pressure of global institutions like World Bank and IMF, which in turn are beholden to the United States, and there is no denying this fact. Secondly it went against the principle of socialism, to which India was sworn through its Constitution. The underprivileged felt abandoned by the State. Yes there was this feel good class which went gung-ho about the salutary impacts of liberalisation. They paid tributes off and on to the American culture of consumerism transplanted on Indian soil, about consumers spoilt for choice because of the sheer variety of wares in the market which often tickled their sense of vanity. The booming of the stock markets. The perceived blossoming of employment opportunities etc. Were we to sum up objectively the reforms and liberalisation were a failure.
Very good discussion, educative and Thought provoking. I feel that political party leaders to adhere morality. POOR ignorant fell prey to attention and tent to select corrupted people answer power mongers who least bother about common people.
Dr.Arun Kumar mentioned about parity as the increase of FDI 316 %and country GDP grew from USD 266 bn to USD 2.3 tn but Labour Reforms specially Minimum Wages 1948 and Improvement of Employment, Medical & Education was not change resulting in the parity between the Poor Vs Rich
Team 1991 led by polymath, polyglot PV Narasimha Rao, Prime Minister + his Harvard educated team of FinMin Manmohansigh, Commerce Minister P Chidambaram, Planning Commission's Montek Singh Ahluwalia. Today Modi with his degree in " Entire Political Science " leads Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goel, Ravish Kumar have brought down GDP growth from 8.3%, to 7%, to 6.1% to 4.2% to minus 7.3%. Our per capita is now below lowly Bangladesh! No jobs, no vaccine, no Oxygen, no Education as India plummets downward.
I am 64 now, seen 1980s and now. What I have seen is that our parents and the younger people then could buy things more, more satisfied and peaceful than now. Today's guys are in very high pressure to achieve things, greed, not peaceful and no satisfaction. It is also in education system and in health care. Nothing is enough and more is available to achieve. In my opinion it is only (false) marketing gimmick. Compare the personal home and family life and you will know. If the economic push was given to agriculture and fisheries sector we would be in more better and poorty in village sector would have eradicated.
The debate could have been better and I think though Prof Arun had a point but his own political economic views kind of diverted it. The key issue was government failed to undertsand its role of regulator for ensuring interest of all parts of the society are protected or were not not willing to make the necessary regulatory reforms. Also, the government abonded its role in areas of public goods - education, health, social safety networks, R&D and left that to also private sector alone. So as a result only top maybe 20-25% benefited, the remaining did get access to more goods and services but didn't benefit even a fraction of gains by top 20-25%.
Economy is like a game of dominos. If the "poor" falters, the "rich" will eventually be toppled. If the purchasing power in the hands of the poor is not increased...the capitalists will eventually be at loss...heavy loss!! The foundation of the India's economy has always been the poor. If that is shaken by thoughtless schemes like demonetisation, than the financial crisis becomes more evident during the time of emergency. Too much of public wealth in the hands of a private few has added more to this crisis...especially when the govt. comes with schemes that looks forward to draining public money towards a few corporates.
Both are geniuses but ironically any change in policy creates opportunities for smart, well-connected people to reap benefits. If the ratio of rich.n.poor is, say 1:100, the resources allocated and opportunitied created by the state are in very adverse ratio, say 10:100. add to that state's lack if willpower, and spurt irrational practices. I actually don't see a date by which benefits of policy change are justifiably distributed among the corporates, MSMEs, the consumers and the lowest level poord.
Now a days Indian Postal department has also started sub contracting delivery services. They give rs 8000 to 10000 to such an employee. How he can do the marriage and settle down. On the other side Dipika Padukone and Virat Koli can spent lavishly abroad for their marriage.
Many people are poor in India because they don't want to study English or even want to make a trangition to STUDING IN English in College. Dr. Ambedkar and others has show us the way how to break the curse of Poverty by education. Hence I feel many are poor in India eg: MUSLIMS because they too want to study in MADRASA and in URDU LANGUAGE. HENCE these type of communities will remain poor in the near future.
Professor easily forgets about demonetization in relation to pandemic... in 2008 world financial crisis India was not touched becos all the money was in my grandma's purse.. our leaders were perplexed as why we did not suffer while every body else did, so they pulled all the money our from poor man's purse more than rich man and ensured we all suffer together....
Sir every one in India no one even people who are responsible doesn’t realise their stand, politicians change their mind entire system to politicians will , only money plays major issues,British rule was sufficient
What these knowledgeable persons are talking. Do they know what ordinary people want. They are describing /using the people as some data or inputs for their economic so called research papers.
This discussion was like having an apple taking to two oranges. Management Consultants do NOTHING for an economy. They are usually parasites. The economist, Dr. Kumar, answered the real question. POVERTY has not changed in India. It is STILL backwards, uneducated, unhealthy and poor. Sujit, having your marketing friend on did one thing - it showed the cluelessness of the upper caste, the complete disconnect from the reality of the majority. The consultant could not even put together a logical argument. A waste of video space.
Excellent summing up about the management guy on the show. It is this management class which votred 3times in Gujarat and 2 times for him to come to.power in Delhi. 🎯🎯🎯💕💕💕🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳👌👌👌
The management class is barely five percent of the population. You had better look harder to find out why Modi won a second term. Hint, it's not all joomlas, no matter how much the chamchas insist. A matter building crores of pucca houses and toilets, crores of gas connections, enabling direct benefit transfers through bank accounts, all these can't be ignored.
It is too derogatory to say management consultants are a parasite. Mind you they are the ones who actually break down a complex business problem and solve it, whereas with all due respect to prof and his views, economists generally study theories & formulas and for their thesis around it. An idea, a policy may sound excellent in one's head but the devil lies in the execution and that's where management consultants come into picture.
@@RajveerSingh-hd3yf So why these Mngt Consultants ensured over 3000 business houses filed bankruptcy between 2014-2020 after taking crores in loan of the tax payers money? These Mngt Consultants are skunks proven today and had led to the economic disaster being faced. How is it the manufacturing, transport, textile, construction, hotel, tourism, service, communication etc all sectors are running in loss except farming? It is these Mngt Consultants who asked their reporting staff and team members to vote for this BJP-RSS fascist regime twice as promotions, pay increase, perks etc of their subordinates were under their control. Exactly the way this BJP-RSS fascist regime is using the unemployed youth to tweet at Rs2/- per tweet to earn some thing on a daily basis when they have no regular job.
@@GM_- I agree, it isn’t joomlas. Modi sold hate, and the majority happily accepted it. Not once, but twice, no matter how poor the economy has been. By the way, the toilets installations were pretty dismal. Go read about it, it was largely a failure, but a movie and good hype makes the willfully ignorant content. When hate is involved, actual facts can be completely disregarded because people will believe what they want to believe. Modi will win easily in 2024 even while India continues to deteriorate.
Sujit the RSS plant all his life Narsimha Rao on the immediate front brought in liberalization of economy due to the phase of 1989-91 political developments. But the actual reason or pointers which rose from 1977 defeat of IG leading up to defeat of RG in 1989 had the fact written on the wall for the swarn jatis: as a result of reservations for SC, ST and general growth of economic after 1947, that section has risen to seek a share in political power clubbed with the financial power. The SVD govts in states during late 1960s had given the taste of power to OBC across the country. Hence, the skunk Rao got the opportunity to put a break on consolidation of SC, ST, OBC becsuse Mandal was implemented by VPS and if the three join hands with the Muslins, then it woukd have become the last nail in the coffin of swarn jati rule in India. Hence in one stroke of liberalization skunk Rao implemented RSS policy to bring in privatization where the jobs, health, education etc would have gradually stopped reservation for poor and impoverished section. Hence in decades to come it will ensure to take the wind out of the sails of the emerging fronts of SC, ST, OBC + Muslims. And soon RSS took over with first Vajpayee and now Modi at the top. So, this has been the primary objective of 1991 economic policy. Isn't it a fact that the very middle class which had a dream run from 1991 onwards has been the one which in hoards voted for BJP-RSS regimes of Vajpayee and now Modi. In 2004 it brought in MMS only to keep SC, ST, OBC at bay will be ensured through the B Team of RSS called Congress!
Mr.naire ,during your speach against PM Modi and BJP and also you smiling on your prediction about defeat of recently government, you don't smile on that but will cry if Modi gov wouldn't be in 2024,please write it down
Our population is three times that of the USA. Besides we have to cope up with Crores of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Rohingiyas continuously through our porus borders. China's economic growth depends on their own domestic and foreign consumption. Because of China's role in the Coronavirus pandameic their manufacturing sector is paying the price. India's boycott of Chinese products has a definite impact on China's economy. China is exporting their products through South Eastern countries to India with whom FTA and Bangladesh is the beneficiary. Now Government has decided to levy anti-dumping duty if they use Chinese parts in their end products. The crux of the problem is corruption which has to be plugged for realistic inclusive economic development.
Poverty can't be removed, poor people will remain, because of economics liberalisation toady we are getting Cadbury in 5 rupees which we never heard about Cadbury before 90, salary got increased to 5 digit ,I remember my father used to say beta tera jitna basic salary hi utna mera gross salary hota thaa...life really changed post economics reform.

If that is shaken by thoughtless schemes like demonetisation, than the financial crisis becomes more evident during the time of emergency. Too much of public wealth in the hands of a private few has added more to this crisis...especially when the govt. comes with schemes that looks forward to draining public money towards a few corporates.
🙏 Sir
It seems our PM try to look more like Prof rather than Tagore n surely he would love to know much like him but we all know the answer
But successful governments are failed to control the private sectors this lead to today's crisis.
Should have been Gurcharan Das debating Professor Kumar. You had a lightweight debating a heavyweight.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Turnaround economic reforms
Pls keep your phone on silent. Thanks.
urbanisation us expensive . do the rural poor have telephone, TV etc.
he agrees that urban people are now elite
East or West Vinod Dua Sir is Best
Modi is the best PM,no doubt MMS was good but atlast he will give all economy for minorities
Doctor doesn't realise the benefits that people received from this liberalisation. We would have been still in a very poor condition .
Singh is king.
Thought the poverty line raises the poor of 1990 and even the regional landlords doesn't have luxury the poor of 2021 has beleve it or not its true
Marketing is totally a failure in india 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
It is you the Congress party who made the people elect BJP. YOU are
safe. BJP is very safe. People only suffer.
Stupid question. It was absolutely right and necessary then.
Is it corruption or trying to meet basic needs since the official policies do not support survival but still wants consumption, growth
This was just a ploy to juxtapose Tarun and Arun and make Tarun look clever. Arun owned this backwards and forwards.
Mr.naire ,during your speach against PM Modi and BJP and also you smiling on your prediction about defeat of recently government, you don't smile on that but will cry if Modi gov wouldn't be in 2024,please write it down
For the poor to do well the middle class has to improve
It has been proven time and again by numerous studies that the 1980s “Trickle down” theory is completely bogus.
BJP said acha din ayega.When?.
It's a policy of we consume the poor dont
Liberalization is not good at all
It is due to total failure of govt administration
Ollddd Dinosaur.
