is the triggering the bounty lead to appearing it on the map, or do you need to use the help function so other players see it on the map? Last weekend i had the feeling people who where doing it solo and it didn't pop up on the map.

also the game is really buggy with timers not starting or the $(timer) in the text

One of the times I loaded the game there was a farm going on and even though I was in the server with people chatting about the contract, I couldn’t see the icon. I think it’s an issue with the game and the map which the last update bought. I know a few people have had similar experiences.
To get the boss to pop you need to pick up the contract and sail to the spawn area
