this sounds good. I'm also against the metal chutes. that's why i made a 2 stall chite out of PVC. it's light and softer so the head hits don't hurt, they're just alarming. since the chute keeps the pad level low naturally, we can focus on keeping their head up, as muscle memory takes care of the movement
plus every player can watch how their teammates run through the chute. i coach 9 and 10 yr olds, and if there's 2 of them holding a sheet, logic says they wont be focused on the drill. if coaches hold the sheet, obviously we cant see the drill
metal chutes are not evil, but plastic is the way to go. there has to be something to make players apprehensive about using incorrect form. there's no repercussion for hitting your head on a bed sheet... other than pissing your coach off. lol
Thanks. my sons first year of football, first grade, trying to build his leg strength (and thus confidence in playing low) I'll try this at home and see if I can make it fun for 6 year olds
If you do have a steel cage, you can make them go through the chute through the back where there is an opening instead of where the bar is in the front.
hey coach I have a bunch of 8 and 9 year olds I've been trying for weeks to get them low with their heads up this is definetly a drill that could help me ..
casey i think this is a good technique for the youngins ... i coach 8-9 year olds and the best point you make is "eyes contact with coach" .... "keep your head up gets old really fast for kids and that is a good alternative...good job but make your point a lil quicker i was gettn hungry
I'm 13 6'3 320 and I play left tackle how can I stay low against defensive ends that are around 5'8 I'm a lot stronger than them it's just there to low
One thing that I do is to put my hand further forward in my stance, forcing me to get down lower. This will make you launch and strike from a lower angle. Lower man always wins. 6'3 here playing right tackle.
In your stance keep your butt down in and when you come out and the drive your feet even if their still lower and you truly are what you say you are and they are what you say they you should kick their ass no matter what.
This is a good drill especially for kids ages 4 -8 years old let them go thru the sheet/ Tarp walking then half speed they will quickly adapt and instead of using a steel cage just build a the same thing out of PVC pipe for about $25 they key is its not a race and maintain eye contact... hold up a sign for a kid or hold up fingers.....please edit or remove the first 6 minutes!
Hire a wrestling coach to teach the kids to low. wrestlers bend their knees more and keep there back strait better than almost any athlete. Wrestlers never use steel cages or bed sheets.
back at my school the metel shoots we have have places for are head and we dont run thew them we chop are feet thew and at the end there is a guy and we have to run block him intel the whistle or till we knock them on there butts
Sure is right. you can make your workout sessions much more productive if your eating the right foods to avoid fat and belly. btw!but ye I heard that most of the celebrities used to follow to kill their belly using this 7 food items. you can see it here bit.ly/16YwSej?=hbbhd
BlakeVlogs this is the problem with kids now days. Lets go easy on them lets give em every thing so they dont develop a sense of pride for working hard. Kids today are soft. And its the parents faults.
Drill worked like a charm. My OTA went great with this.

That is an excellent idea. I will be implementing that into my practice.

In theory great but u spent way to much time talking

F'ing get to it already
This, is my first year ever of football im 6ft 1 273lbs. 12 years old im a DT and LT thi video helps
nice coach love the vids, great teaching!
Respect your philosophy I will try it
This sounds like a great drill, i want to try this with my 9&10 year olds. Do you have a video of your players doing this that you could post?
this video could have been 3 minutes !
Great video! Thanks.
I built a chute out of PVC for 6 and 7 year olds works great.
Great video...
Good stuff coach
we got a 14year old guy on our youth team , he is 6,3 closer to 100kg, and is a beast ! im gonna show this to him , se if he inproves
THANK YOU
I'm headed to practice in an hour. I'll try this and let you know. Sounds logical.
Gary M. Graham 3 years later
I'm 13 6'3 320 and I play left tackle how can I stay low against defensive ends that are around 5'8 I'm a lot stronger than them it's just there to low
Thats what im saying, im 6'1 170 and i play center, i have trouble staying low
One thing that I do is to put my hand further forward in my stance, forcing me to get down lower. This will make you launch and strike from a lower angle. Lower man always wins. 6'3 here playing right tackle.
+Rxleigh you should not be playing center you should be te or d end
In your stance keep your butt down in and when you come out and the drive your feet even if their still lower and you truly are what you say you are and they are what you say they you should kick their ass no matter what.
2CHINZZ are you shure not 10 chins
Works to keep head up
You should use kids for the examples sounds good I'm going to try it at practice let you know how it goes
we always teach that upon contact they have their 'eyes to the sky' so they don't dip their heads - and enforce that they do it.
you must be big and fast good job its hard to maintain both
This is a good drill especially for kids ages 4 -8 years old let them go thru the sheet/ Tarp walking then half speed they will quickly adapt and instead of using a steel cage just build a the same thing out of PVC pipe for about $25 they key is its not a race and maintain eye contact... hold up a sign for a kid or hold up fingers.....please edit or remove the first 6 minutes!
Couldn't you just do the eye contact thing with the steel cage? I think this would be a good drill for coaches who don't have a cage.
Actually we had a very low chute and being a 6'4 person it was hard not to despite being low.
thats what i play left tackle , and fullback on offense
good clinic Coach!!1
first year of football to be 6-2 and 225 punds this helps
@33beegee no its not its about winning hurting kids is just fun
How many youth football programs actually have a steel cage?
Is this a drill or a lecture? I'm not waiting that long to find out.
bout 220 , but i mainly deadlift , almost deadlifting 400lbs
Nice video but could do without all the talking at the beginning
Would like to demo
KevinClayton who do you think you are telling a 12 year old they are going to have a premature death.
Hire a wrestling coach to teach the kids to low. wrestlers bend their knees more and keep there back strait better than almost any athlete. Wrestlers never use steel cages or bed sheets.
wait, you want them to tackle a ball-carrier without a helmet on?
Im 5ft 7in and im 140lbs and 12 years old and startingon O-Line with 8th grade im in 12 grade had late bday 12.24.1999
I Start on defense , But get switched in on oline and att fullback on offense
If you correct the kids when they go threw the shoot the second time they will learn jus like i did
back at my school the metel shoots we have have places for are head and we dont run thew them we chop are feet thew and at the end there is a guy and we have to run block him intel the whistle or till we knock them on there butts
we have a kid are are 11=12 yr old team that is 258 and 6 foot 2 inches . and im 84lbs and 5 foot ! big size differnt
@steelersxx24 Haha yeh I know the feeling being almost 6'3 its just not that same as being 5'10 5'11
you can make them out of pvc from loews for about $30!
somebody has some misdirected lingering bitterness towards bear bryant! good drill, though.
oh so you play DT defensive tackle because OT is offense.... are you a starter?
It would be a shame if you did not bulk up when these other people bulk up so easily using Atomic Max Muscle (search for it on Google).
Better to demonstrate.
how bout dis make them run a lap if they dont get low
I wanna be your height I am 5.3" 180lbs and boy do I suck. Everyone is 5.6+" its hard to keep up.
Six foot four offensive tackle 220 pounds
6"3 224 Defensive Lineman this is my first year
+BostoniaKnight I'm 6"0 185 Defensive Lineman this is my first year
6 ft 2 I'm 220 line backer. Bench 340 squat 405
185lbs lineman? uh grade school maybe? that's too damn light bruh. eat some cake
Lol im a defensive linemen and im 5'4 and weigh 145
LOL we use the same thing just that there is a guy on the other side ready to lay your ass out if you come out weak
This isn't good for just little kids I'm in highschool I'm 14 and I'm 6"5" 250 pounds and we still use this drill
ur 14 at 6ft5 dam
Are u the fuckin terminator? lol
Howtobeadumbass yea that's some bullshit. I'm 14 5'9 and 160
I hope the same for you
Plastic tubes...they don't hurt at all
I hate chutes I always hit my helmet lol.
13 years old
Good info. But that's alot of talking for a simple drill.
WTF 12 yrs old 273lbs..... I see OT in your future
im 13 and im 6 ft 1 in
Earape intro
Great drill, but "muscle memory" is BS.
If you truly are that size than you are going to have a premature death.....
you were always to high.
@AlexTubed they fucking suck all of my lineman are short im the biggest guy in my town and that thing is way too low coach is always on my ass
@MTBdude27, hey watch your mouth boy!
Sure is right. you can make your workout sessions much more productive if your eating the right foods to avoid fat and belly.
btw!but ye I heard that most of the celebrities used to follow to kill their belly using this 7 food items.
you can see it here bit.ly/16YwSej?=hbbhd
@MTBdude27 u think ur so goood
Okay. I have one concern. Don't torture 9 and 8 year olds!
Just let them hit the sheets! Even if they are still hitting it they are still low! The bed sheet does not stretch!
Also tell them to stay lower
you obviously never played sports. and don't tell me you did. if you did you wouldn't call it torture. please. stop being stupid
BlakeVlogs this is the problem with kids now days. Lets go easy on them lets give em every thing so they dont develop a sense of pride for working hard. Kids today are soft. And its the parents faults.
bro talks way too much. you're not talking to an 8 year old. you're talking to an adult coaches.
get lower...
Blablablablablablabla! Get to the point please!! Smdh
not presentable, preventable
I fucking hate this drill so much
bear brynt dumb.. just kidding just kidding.. but seriously he's dumb
YOU TALK TO MUCH!
I'm going to try it, but with a rope so they can hang themselves if they do it wrong. Not some panzy bed sheet.
They point of the shit it’s wider so the kids can run through it .. rather than a rope where you can just stand back up immediately..
Respect your philosophy I will try it
