    From the unexpected shock of coming face to face with an army of giant crabs, to a bold claim we have to test out for ourselves for an electric outboard engine, to yet another deserted anchorage. What an action packed day.

    I am sorry I am late with this, I had problems trying to post yesterday. Re: any electric dinghy motor, you need to look into how the LiFePO4 battery and BMS operate in the cold weather where you are going to cruise. Does the BMS have a cold weather shut off when recharging the battery in 0ºC (32º F) or lower because it is my understanding charging a LiFePO4 battery at near or below freezing will kill the battery. Love the image of Hank at the brow of the dinghy with ears and jowls fluttering in the wind!!! Yeah, leave the crab, take the scallops! Best, :¬) Webhead USA

    Spider crabs used to be a by catch when I was a commercial fisherman. We nicknamed them Spoilers as they made a mess of our nets.
    Nowadays they’re staring to be called British King crabs and are gaining in popularity. Nice to eat too, except when as you found them and their shells are soft and full of water.

      @@CadohaAdventures Boil the claws for 10 minutes and they’re so sweet and tasty. Shameful to say but back in the 80’s to save hassle eating them I discarded the rest , which looking back was so wasteful. I used to eat buckets full of them with bread, garlic butter and lemon. My favourite old school outboard is the good old Mercury 2.5. Mine is ancient, one of the first without conventional points. If it hasn't been used for a few months it takes a few pulls to start but then it's fine.

      Agreed, although never needing petrol, oil, filters, spark plugs, servicing, etc, etc, will no doubt help recoup some of the cost over time, plus the electric engine has never once, not even for a split second let us down.

      Yes it's the latest 1103 from Torqeedo. We genuinely can't quite believe how much quieter it is as we always thought the first one we had (1003) was quiet, certainly compared to our petrol engines, but this is so hard too hear over the noise of the boats wake 😳

      yes I guess two is better than one or none sure electric tools or engines work at the first time (I have electric power tools at home) but when they fail you can do nothing (batteries not compatible, no spare parts, no one to help you) instead you will always find someone to fix your gasolien engine everywhere in the world, you will finds parts everywhere for cheap sometimes, used parts....and they are more reliable on the long time😁 @@CadohaAdventures

    Hello, hope it's not silly to ask. But what does it mean when the crabs are soft? (I have googled and still can't get a clear answer) thanks

    • @CadohaAdventures
      @CadohaAdventures  Рік тому

      No such thing as a silly question, in fact the only ones which are silly are the ones not asked for fear of being thought ‘silly’ ☺️
      Basically a crab will be soft shelled right after it had just shed its old shell. It takes a while for the new one to harden up and so they are very vulnerable at this point and also there isn’t much meat in the shell either at this point. The best time to harvest a crab is when the shell is old and covered in barnacles, as it’ll likely be packed full of meat at this point.
      Hope that helps 🙏🏼

    One of my favourite ways of having scallops is with black pudding and mushy peas. Cook the scallops in the fat from the black pudding with the addition of a knob of butter. Heat the mushy peas with the addition of mint sauce and about a tablespoon of white vinegar. Spoon the mushy peas onto a warmed plate and add the black pudding on top then the scallops on top of that to complete a mountain of deliciousness.
