  • New Zealand-built Pegasus 3 arrives in a shipping container to her new home on San Francisco Bay. Recently acquired from the builder/owner, this cuddy-cabin, long cockpit boat with the tall "R" carbon Southern Spars rig has new Doyle sails and outfitted with excellent hardware. The owners were long time F27 racers, and with our first sail yesterday we could tell how much Ian Farrier advanced his designs to get this 22-footer to perform on par with the 27' earlier model.
    Check out the California coastal upwind bash video on @ravenswingsailing to see another trip for the same crew as in today's video :)

    From container to water in a single day?! That's a lucky boat (and owner). Nice work. A lot of smiles.

      And that, my dear, is the danger of UA-cam video. This footage was shot on four different days. Boat came out of the box on day 1. Assembled day and moved to new home on day 2. Then a few days to install lifting padeyes, reinstall the sailing rig, get an engine fitted, etc. Then the owners got snowed in at Tahoe for a week. first launch & sail day was about 2 weeks after the container arrived. Wintertime - what are you gonna do? ;)

    Beautiful boat and what excitement to “unwrap” that present!!! I’ve been admiring the F22 for quite a while and am super disappointed that no one has continued with the fabrication (I think that’s the case). Andrew, I would love an opportunity to sail with you on this boat sometime!! Cheers, Matt

    Beautiful boat. I like that it has a coaming. Other F-22 I've seen does not have them.

      I agree. Even in that light wind some wave slaps were shielded by that coaming area and I’m sure would have soaked our backs otherwise. Plus it’s nice storage for water bottles and small gear.

    Nice boat! I have the same cuddy cabin dagger board version F22R here in Brisbane. Had it for almost 4 years and always felt the sail plan was too big... I usually sail with 2 reefs in the main... Would live to get in touch and get tips on your experience in strong wind

      Hi. This boat hasn’t yet been sailed in hi winds now that’s she’s moved from NZealand to California. But we have a lot of windy experience here on Fboats. Email me: cartersboat at gmail dot com

    Beautiful boat. For the curious, do you have information on production rates for both New Zealand and US locations? I understand production was to transfer to some extent to US. Haven't seen any update on that tho.

      @Ravenswingsailing  Рік тому +1

      Joseph, I believe they finished about a dozen F22s in NZ after Mr. Farrier died. The people he sold the designs and production capabilities to originally said they would build F22s in the USA, but they still haven’t started, nor havr they supported any needs from prior Farrier Marine customers. It’s a shame they seem to be letting these boat designs slip into obscurity.

    Very very nice! Can I please ask what the R version costs in $NZL???

    • @Ravenswingsailing
      @Ravenswingsailing  Рік тому

      Sadly they aren’t being made for sale anymore. used ones for sale are very rare. there was one a few months back on the US East coast, listed for about $95kUSD

    This is an owner built boat? Much of it looks like a factory F-22 but the cabin hatch is different and as far as I know none of the factory boats had coamings.

      Good eye! The builder was a life-long friend of Ian Farrier’s and he did some kind of work at the Farrier Marine shop during the F22 days. Those are factory beams & folding gear, and we think rudder & dagger. He built a big cockpit and tiny cabin; the big Vee berth is the same but awake you’d be outside. Overall these guys got the exact cockpit / cabin combo that works for their daysailing with grandkids usage ;)

    Cost?

      @Ravenswingsailing  Рік тому

      You and I won’t know ;). That’s private info between the owner/builder and the buyers.

      When I spoke with Ian farrier, he said his goal was under $40k shipped
      Since nobody builds them anymore, you can assume that mass production never took off and the design is no longer financially viable with labour rates and devaluation of dollar pushing it into probably double that, and the number of buyers into a handful

      Great point DanTheMan. This R rig looks pretty huge for this boat & SF prevailing winds. It took me at least a year to figure out Ravenswing was overpowered most SF days. Let’s encourage Team Pegasus to leave the dock under first reef May thru October!
