Hi Nigel i am enjoying your build of the Gannet, I have one and can't wait to start it, but I have to finish a few other kits first.
Your little rant about accounts getting involved made me smile it sounded so familiar. I had similar experiences back in the 80s in the steel fabrication industry. In the 90s I went freelance, so much easier.
Keep up the good work Nigel 👏 😊😊😊

Excellent progress on a cracking kit. You are sounding like a man who has got his mojo back. Good to hear, mate. Loved the waffle! Engineer v Bean Counter is always going to be a thankless tussle. Nil carborundum!

Hi Nigel loving the build, torn between starting on the Gannet or the Dam Buster that are in my stash. I can really empathise with your comments regarding cost over quality in engineering. One of my main reasons for retiring from civil engineering was the outsourcing of design abroad. I was a specialist in a bespoke highway design package, along come the bean counters “ I’m sure our friends abroad would be able to produce the designs quicker and cheaper than us in the uk can you go and train them ? “Reluctantly I agreed to go only for my trip to be cancelled at the last minute as they had found someone locally to do the training, you guessed it CHEAPER ! To cut a long story short a number of design packages were sent away and when the “completed “ designs were returned they were absolute garbage and had to be redesigned in the uk.

Nigel, I would love to get one of these kits, but I have quite a few kits all in the "just started" phase, so I'm not sure it would be a good idea to add another to the queue. As far as the work experience you described - been there, experienced that - so I completely understand. Keep up the great work!

Awesome video ! I think the after market parts companies made the modelling companies up there game by making better kits ? I do agree with you ref.manufacturing companies it’s not quality it’s all about number ! Problems they will sort out later ! Glad to see you getting your mojo bad 👍🏻

Highly endorse your reflections on the way engineering products have been distributed among outsourced subcontractors - I will not mention organisations but I too have examples of that in the aerospace world. The ownership of all products in the chain is known as 'vertical integration' and every company that adopts it has the highest MTBF which translates into reliability. Listen to what this man says people!

Nigel I also worked in an engineering capacity 1, if a contractor can't send you quality samples they never will produce quality product. 2. we had a sampling plan, if we received no failed parts at a set sample rate then the spacing in between samples was increased 3. if a failed sample was found then the sample rate was reset to the highest sample rate and the whole process started over

    Hi
Yep go out of sequence and fit the nose as soon as you can. It’s not a bad fit but it’s not as perfect as the rest of the kit it needs a little tweak to get it right so you can’t drop it in last moment.

Would you ever try building a model without the instructions? Now that could be a challenge 😂

Well, a Border or Dragon kit would probably be easier without the instructions lol.

Hi, is it worthwhile identifying mirror image parts e.g. doors etc?

You're absolutely right about Aerospace being ruined by the bean counters. Back in the day when Engineering was running things, we say real innovation. Now all we hear about is cost savings. This was one of the reasons I retired; I saw what was happening and wanted no part of it.

I remember a time when quality was king and now we have to settle for adequate with a guarantee to fail within a year.🧐
