- I spoke to the almighty Adam D from Killswitch Engage at the So What?! Music Festival in Houston on April 28th. We spoke about reuniting with Howard Jones, the band almost breaking up after their 2009 record, and the band passing the 20 year mark. Adam also shares a little bit about his own health and his awesome appearance on the Price is Right.

Adam D is such a cool dude and amazing producer. I'll always support his work
Thanks for watching!
Daniel Seale he’s a metal God can sing, scream, play every instrument and produces. He is metal.
@@GamerkillahBlaze He is flesh and bluurd!
As Daylight Dies is still my favorite. Just brutal and beautiful.
I second that
Same
I gotta say as a guitarist myself and I love playing some Killswitch Engaged I really like playing the guitar break down during the song "End Of Heartache "..such a killer breakdown and fun as hell to play on guitar
Break the Silence still gets me. Amazing
He's a genius. Guitarist/drums/singer/producer. He KNOWS music
You sound exactly like Walter Jr. from Breaking Bad
Daan Hoes yo, you’re right! He’s just missing the crutches!
Honestly, I've been told I look like him a couple of times lol
Haha!!
Hahaha I thought the same thing! Like Walter Jr after some speech therapy lol cool interview though
I was going to comment that and as I scrolled down this was the first comment I saw lol
Adam works out at my gym.. He's totally cool in person.
Doug Cronkhite cool story bruh
That's cool! thanks for watching!
What city is this?
Aaron San Diego county Southern California area. It would be awesome to run into Adam D. at the gym.
San Diego right?
For the record I am an Iron Maiden fan and I absolutely lost my shit when Howard came on stage for End of Hearthache!
Matt Robbins who cares
@@richardfarnie3830 why you a dick? 😂
Iron Maiden what? Who cares.
KSE selftitled 2009 was a good album tho.
I wish we can hear "Save Me" sometimes
Me too! thanks for watching!
Last time I saw them, like 2 years ago, they played The Reckoning. That's still one of my favorite Killswitch songs.
For real. I love that album. The Return gives me goosebumps still to this day.
Starting over is top notch
@@rickcaikauskas6277 thats awesome. Wish we can hear more songs of this album
Funny thing is, I absolutely love the self titled album. I think it’s insanely good.
I still buy CDs
Me too, man.
As do I. In fact, I just recently hit 850.
stop
Same. Proud of it.
Me too. I bought a brand new car last year. A 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. I didn’t realize until my wife and I took it off the lot (meanwhile grabbing my cd book) that it didn’t have a fucking CD player!!! Worst day of my life lol 😂
KSE and Light the Torch tour...epic!
LostOne that would be very epic, thanks for watching!
If Light The Torch would open for Killswitch I might just have to follow the tour around the country. Also, Self titled (2009) has some amazing deep, dark songs that make you feel pain and anguish. Sometimes that's what we need to open us up and let out the sadness.
Lost is an amazing deep and made me understand the despair I felt when I was dealing w my moms passing in 08 I first heard lost and was like yep
i believe they were suppose to tour together the covid happened
@@sLeEp_ToKeN89 shit made me cry when my mom died back in July 2020.
Well boy do I have some news for you lol
Just saw their show in Columbus. Howard did come out and sing with KSE and it was AWESOME. SOOOOO good.
Adam D is priceless. Protect this asset
The reason why they are so good is 1. song writing and 2. vocal ability of both Howard and Jesse and the the vocals always mesh so well with their instruments' sounds. It's not luck at all but really their dedication and also talent which I suppose you could consider talent as luck. The biggest thing that drew me in was the sonic atmosphere in their songs. Some metal bands sound very generic and cold whereas killswitch songs sound unique and warm.
Love KSE!! Just wish I had found them sooner. First heard them 5 years ago at the ripe young age of 53 and have seen them live now twice and they absolutely bring it!! Will never miss a show of theirs anywhere within 6 hours of me!
Starting over is one of my fav songs. Wasn't a complete waste.
Agreed. That is a great song. When he said it wasn't their best work that was the first song I thought of.
Adam D representing Massachusetts with that 28-3 hat. Love the loyalty to our hometown. Even wearing it in the signal fire video
Damn I didn’t realize they didn’t like the 2009 album, it’s one of my favourites
ditto save me was sick
This was a fun vibe. Good job on the interview 👍 Adam is super chill and honest.
Dude, nice interview. You asked pretty much what many fans would... greetings from Brazil
I discovered Killswitch in 2003. I got a demo cd at Ozzfest and after hearing "Fixation on the darkness". I went out and bought the disc, literally played it till I wore it out, replaced it and bought everything they had available. I still consider them one of my favorite bands. I am a Howard Jones fan, his voice is amazing. But Jesse is also an amazing singer. They're sound, their energy, it's all still there, bringing on an equally talented singer did not diminish anything as far as quality music is concerned. Adam D is the man!!!
Props on this interview. Genuine fan to musician connection and excitement. I think Adam really enjoyed this interview as well.
yeah it felt so natural.. one of the best interviews i've watched loved every second of it
Love Adam!! Most amazing Guitarist!
Great interview and love that oldschool stone cold shirt
I love how honest this dude is.
Dude 2009 is like one of my favorite killswitch records what the frick
All of them are among my favorite albums ever
Great stuff dude. I actually seen this Price is Right when it came on. I freaked when I seen Adam and he fucking won. Crazy.
Thanks!
Nice job, man. Keep up the great work.
I really like the questions you asked. You made the most of the time you had while not asking the same generic questions he’s answered probably a million times. Definitely feels like you’re a fan of Killswitch and did some research to compile the best questions you could. Some things in here I’ve been wondering for years. Awesome interview!
Great questions bro
great interview we enjoyed it....
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Adam is the best! Such a unassuming and good hearted guy
Epic interview! First time in your channel, Adam D is awesome.
Thank you for checking out my channel and for watching, make sure to subscribe!
adam really talked to this kid with respect.. I just wanted to take a moment to say that.
No matter what you think of their music or Adam’s onstage antics - the guy is all class!
Nice interview, filled in some unknowns Kudos!
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching.
Adam D. seems to be a really down to Earth and genuine guy. His Beliefs shine through in their lyrics🙏🏻💪🏻
Ur the luckiest human being on earth to interview him. And great question with the self titled album!!!!
Lol it was an awesome experience and I am very grateful. Thanks for commenting and watching!
I prefer KSE with Howard. Although Jessie has definitely improved his singing and screaming since coming back so I cant complain too much.
Jesse still sounds horrible in live performance he's good but Howard is much better
I like Jesse but Howard is one of a kind
Great interview, I admit I was expecting way less. But those were great questions, really dig it.
Hey thanks for watching!
One of my fav interviews of Adam. You were able to get good answers out of him and not just “agghhh I dunno man” 🤣🤣. ❤️
Cool interview man. Keep it up. Love KSE and Adam. Cool dude that is sooo down to earth. Id have a beer or 12 with him!!!
Lol thanks for watching!
I'm watching it again 'cause it's one of the best interview related to KSE. Great job man I forgot a lots of things about the back surgery, the price is right etc (that was a funny story BTW).
Wish I can meet the guys someday I have a lots of things to say.
Le_Poney_Posey thank you for watching... again lol
Adam is a badass I love him for keeping it real
Oh there's more than just your parents rocking out to you Adam bro !
great interview man, you seem to pull out a lot of charisma from him
Good interview 👍
Thank you! Make sure to subscribe if you haven't already!
Can we just talk about how Howard still carried KSE II though
Great interview dude! I can tell you were excited for it haha but that was fun to watch just like their shows! Thanks for sharing, I felt like I was there, great questions.
Yeah I was excited and nervous for this lol. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
Save me, lost . Awesome album
Such a chill dude
He was indeed! thanks for watching!
Very entertaining interview and great channel overall! :D Looking forward to more "metalcore" interviews :)
Thank you very much! Things are a little slow right now but more interviews will be coming soon! Make sure to subscribe if you haven't already!
This was awesome! Nice man!
thanks man
I know I’m late to this but I was at the iron maiden gig. Maiden and KSI were for me equal billing and when Howard came on there was a small group of us going nuts but the rest of the crowd stood and watched with hardly any reaction. It was pretty tuff to see a band you love get such a disappointing reaction to a moment of such significance. It was still an awesome gig and one I’ll never forget!
Congrats on 100 Subs man! =D keep them coming!
Thank you man!
Awesome
Thank you for watching!
Adams shirt is amazing
Some great questions asked in this interview
Thank you so much! Make sure to subscribe if you haven't already!
KsE 2009 is a great album. It took me some seven years to realize that but I found out there are some really good tracks there.
How do you not have more subs, but have interviews with KSE and all that remains?! (Watching that one next) two of my top 5 bands
Zach Henderson thanks for watching man!
That's surprising, I really liked their 09 Self Titled album. One of my favorite.
It's always strange to hear them dissing the 2009 album when it was actually not only pretty damn good, but also the best performance in Howard's career, easily, the most intence and probably the most honest album. It reminds me of "Dirt" by Alice in Chains - one of the most raw and honest records in rock music. You could feel the nerve and depression Howard was going throug on their 2009 record and that's what makes this album so damb memorable and striking.
Of their catalogue, I personally don’t rank it very high but I still like the album. I can’t even pinpoint what it is that makes me prefer the other albums, it just felt less punchy and the songs didn’t feel as memorable as others. They get like songs that I wouldn’t really go back to listen to as often but that might just be subjective.
I was at "FEQ Slipknot's concert" on last monday (July 8th) 2019. Howard and Jesse sang together on one song; amazing how Jesse reached low clean notes! I got excited by Adam guitar play style and talent, with a speech by Jesse encouraging amateur musicians (like me) to keep playing..
There I am trying to learn Take this oath on the guitar, someday I will play a KSE song haha!
KSE represent Quebec
Killswitch's 2009 is really cool... I love it. From the beginning to the end. It's dark and deep.
These guys revolutionized metal song structure -
Bands that had 2 different lead singers (besides Van Halen) that he can't think of:
Black Sabbath
Savatage
AC/DC
Deep Purple
Nightwish
Alice in Chains
Arch Enemy
Queensryche
Fates Warning
Redemption
Symphony X
Iced Earth
Anthrax
Dream Theater
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
You said fates warning twice.
In my opinion, I guess some of these are totally different situations - Symphony X and Dream Theater for example, they switched singers like way before they had a huge fanbase. But some are good examples, like Nightwish.
@@davi.abrantes so 14 out of 16 are good examples...?
Wow I forgot about fates warning
Key word was successful. Half of those bands count.
As a Saints fan, I love that 28-3 pops up in the most unexpected ways.
Wish I'd see them together live
Nice interview man
Thank you for watching! Make sure to subscribe!
Another great Adam quote: "They can call us whatever the hell they want they can call us Assholes if they want" :D I was cracking up at that, such drole humour we need to start writing these down.
He got sent home for 2 nights for vacation 😂😂 in all seriousness though I've only known arms of sorrow nearly my whole life and I heard Always for the first time last week and I'm suddenly obsessed with Killswitch Engage now lol 💕
I remember buying the CDsfor As daylight dies and the self titled album 😭😭😂😂
uh oh is howard gunna be singing on the atonment tour... light the torch is opening got my ticket for the first show in Cleveland so stoked
I saw them in 2010 with Phil one of the show I've every seen.
First time in your channel and you give me a interview with Adam fucking Dutkiewicz!! Thanks dude! Keep that good work.
hugs from brazil!
That's awesome! Thanks for the love.
Damn this is a surprisingly good interviewer. He's just relaxed and asked really good questions.
How is it that he's on an independent channel and that awkward ass Graham Hartman is on loudwire?
That guy on loudwire is cringe
is this a joke? lol
This guy here is great but I will say Graham did an exceptional job navigating the Gene Simmons interview
Van halen for sure, but ac/dc my dudes. Different circumstance sure, but still damn good. All that aside, great interview and thanks adam d. KSE!!!
Light the torch open for Killswitch in FEQ in Québec city, witch open for Slipknot as well for the interested. Can’t wait to see if Howard sing a couple song with Killswitch!!
Wow that sounds awesome! Yes I hope so too. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe if you haven't already!
He did in Cleveland. There are a couple of decent cell phone videos available on youtube right now.
How does this have 30k views and I just became the 175 sub? This is good content 🔥
I really like that 2009 album honestly
One of my favourite phrases is ’opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one but not everyone wants to hear yours’ hearing Adam talk about arseholes reminded me of that.
I may be wrong but I believed I witnessed the start of adams back issue. 2004 tour for end of heartache, I was right up front with my girl and he came over to do something dumb and slipped off the staging landed on his ass at the edge of the stage hard. He mouthed the words ow to us. Great way to compress your spine.
I love the self titled album tbh.
Nearly a year later and there are cell phone videos peppering the internet over the last week or so of Howard singing End of Heartache in Clevelend. If you haven't watched it yet, go for it. The crowd was extremely into it and they all looked like they were having a blast. I've always preferred Jesse over Howard from a lyrical standpoint but I still respect the Hell out of Howard and the albums he did with KsE. Those albums helped me through some dark times in my life so I will always be thankful for that. \- - /_
My number one question for Adam. How many circles can you run before you're too dizzy to play? Question two, how the hell do you have that much energy at the end of a set? Much respect
I'm from Borrego Springs. Wish I knew when Adam was there, I woulda screamed at him like a little school girl
i love the self titled album though!
Love the hat. Go 'Stros
YEAHHHHH! That's what I'm talking about! Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe!
Bring back the sideburns 🤣🤣🤣🤷♂️
lol right?! thanks for watching!
Killswitch 2009 album is one of my top 3
I WANT ADAM'S SHIRT
I saw the design on Qwertee, you can vote on it for it to get made
I need that shirt Adam's wearing asap
I saw the design on Qwertee, you can vote on it for it to get made
5:52 "I know you've produced a few things"...
Yeah. Alive And Just Breathing. Personally, one of my all time favorite albums ever.
lmao I thought that blue ring on the stereo was my mouse loading.
One day I wish someone would ask about Aftershock
I hope they at least give us a new single in the next month or two.
Guy from the sticks me too! Thanks for watching!
And Unleashed is out!!!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Adam indeed is a guitar and more so a creative riff writing god! I don't know that I consider Killswitch 'metalcore' ...I'm kinda inline with just a metal band! Great conversation here, though!
That's so cool! Me and Adam have the same opinion about the 2009 self titled album I felt like it was just forced and wasn't there greatest material, sure there were some good songs but they could have done better like the other albums he produced
Hard to follow daylight dies though
@@R3adybreck you mean it's hard to make another album like or as good as as daylight dies?
Only one or two songs from the 2009 self titled was good
@Ewolf5150 same here had to listen to it over time for me to really get into it cuz the first time hearing it was like "damn this is kind of unusual sound for them" especially after daylights dies I believe
@@blodsteelangel yeah the ones that stand out are light in a darkened world, save me, and starting over
Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Black Sabbath were all successful with 2 or more singers
Yes that is right, at the moment my mind was kinda going crazy so I couldnt really think of any more. Thanks for watching!
Yeah AC/DC was THE first band to come to mind. Much more than anyone else. Me and my friends always said these guys done an AC/DC and are the only guys to do it successfully like them
Iron maiden
@Joseph Aspey: Iron Maiden shouldn’t count. When Paul Di’Anno was in the band they weren’t that successful; and in the 90s the weren’t that successful when Blaze Bailey was in the band. They only play clubs when both were in the band. Bruce is the only successful singer they’ve had.
@grizzlytomahawk Ronnie James dio and ozzy Osbourne. Then Ian gillan from deep purple but they were less popular with him
Where can I get Adam's shirt?
Adam D cool as fuck.. funniest guy ever in the heavy metal scene.
