It's 2:30 am and I'm ready to fix a dang patch that's driving me crazy first thing in the morning, I cannot thank you enough for sharing this video, God bless you.
So refreshing to come upon a video that delivers fully. I appreciate your method of getting right down to business and not coming off like a robotic psychopath. The video is easy on the eyes, not overproduced and over edited. The title doesn't lie. The thumbnail let's you know it's not a spray method. It's perfect. Not selling, not bloviating. Perfect.
I appreciate that!
I'm impressed with this simple method. I've got a "finished" area of 18"X18" to do (among others) fixing up my home. It looks like "less splatter is better" so when you knock it down, you don't get too much flat surface. (You can always add more splatter later if more plateau is needed)
Excellent technique and an even better video! Awesome. Thank you for getting right down to the business and then following the video all the way through painting so we could see the final result. I've got a 5"x5" patch in my ceiling I am going to fix up tonight. Thanks again!
Laughed out loud watching this video Ben, hilarious and I know I’ll end up using this technique sometime. Of course in western Canada we generally only need to do this on ceilings, but what a great trick.
Outstanding! You're a true craftsman in your field, sure appreciate you sharing your knowledge!!
that is amazing!! the last time i repaired a 5" by 5" hole in the wall it took me about 45 minutes to dig out the hopper, power up the air compressor and lay down plastic for only about 4 seconds of spraying with the hopper gun. I will certainly try this next time.
I dig all of your videos, man. You inspired me to just grin and bare it and get some annoying nail pops done around the home. I appreciate your toolkit its very versatile and effective
best result back by visuals, cheap, quick to get to, no left over cans and sprays wasted. thank you.
1st... I just want to say I always enjoy your videos, especially the texturing ones, I've never had the match it, but now I have an idea how to go about doing it and come pretty damn close forever have to do any drywall repair so I want to say thank you for that
Hats off👍 would've never thought of it or its results
Hey boss, just wanted to take a second to say thank you, I actually can’t count the amount of times your videos have helped me when I just needed some friendly reminders and a refresher how to do stuff, so keep it up man you rock, no pun intended, lol
I like you, man. Friendly and informational! Your videos prove to be most helpful. Thank you for sharing! =)
We had to match a heavy dash stucco exterior finish one time. We basically did the same thing except we just threw the finish on!
Wow this is great, would've never thought of it. Usually just use a wadded up bag 💕👍
Been watching your skate channel for years but this one is a hidden gem as well!
I can attest that this method does work, did it just this past weekend and it matched great! Trick is to get the mud thin so it splatters well.
I really think it’s a great idea will keep this in mind instead of setting up the hopper for such a small area thanks 👍
I tried this exact technique with a flexible metal blade last week, flicking spackle thinned with water on gaps next to can lights that did not cover the sheetrock. Next time I will use a brush! Thanks
This is exactly what I needed! Awesome!
Thank you for sharing such a simple trick! Worked like a charm!
I love your genius/simplicity dude!!
Thanks for sharing pieces of your brain with the world.
And
Take that homax you crappy over priced sprayer people 😁
I love this guy and he lives just above me in BC! Go Canucks!
Just tried it out and was pleasantly surprised with the results.
Smart guy. Experimenter extraordinaire. Thanks !
Vancouver I have learned a lot from you thank you very much and keep up the good job!
Thank you for this. Great Method.
I learned to Texture 30 years ago similar to this I use a brush that’s shaped like an iron dip in Texture use a 1 or 2 inch knife to flick Texture on wall the harder you flick it the finer the texture I can do knockdown or orange peel but this method is messy you can also use a broom. Or maybe like he said just buy the can😁
This is pretty genius. Glad I watched.
Brilliant! I'm through with the dribbling wasteful mess of using those texture spray cans.
When using the “USG brush method” to apply mud for texturing, it’s important that the mud be the right consistency. I think mine was too thick. Most of it ended up not being shot forward onto the wall by the brush’s bristles, but adhering to my fingers, then plopping onto the floor. (This was confusing and frustrating, because that’s not what was on the USG video. (I hadn’t yet discovered Vancouver Carpenter.)) However, I did end up with a nice amount of the really small bits of mud (stardust-like sprinkles) hitting the wall. To get the larger blobs of mud on the wall, I went “pre-schooler” on it, dipping my fingertips into the mud and tapping the wall randomly to create bigger blotches of mud of various sizes. I then knocked it all down with the knife. It looked pretty darn good. I was happy and proud of myself for improvising my way to a good result. ;)
You areeee awesooome... great job with mud.
Thanks for the video!
thanks for the tip, it works
Brilliant! 😮 thank you
good tip. Thanks
Awesome! It is perfect.
BRILLIANT!!!
Any advice for matching the texture of a normal painted wall (no knockdown or other intentional texturing)? I fixed some cracks in a ceiling. I was hoping that the texture would look the same after priming the whole ceiling, but the patched areas still look a lot more smooth than the old painted areas.
Your fffing awesome!!!
Damit, this is very good I learned again from you ;-)
.... Im glad I came across this
Good job brother nice 👍
Whoa! Genius level! 💚👍💯
Sooooo Canadian. I love this guy.
Looks good! I’m about to do this with a wall hope it works - I wish there was an exact timing in how long it dries before knocking down but I think it’s all ‘a ojo de buen cubero’ or the experience in English
Thanks for sharing. I love this channel and was excited to see you using the same USG method.
I've used this method a few times for small to medium size patches.
I've heard that adding some latex or Floetrol to the mud can help the texture. I haven't tried that yet. I'm not sure how well it will knock down. Have you ever added anything (glue, latex, etc) to the mud when texturing?
I have a 3 x 4 foot patch to texture soon. So I'm going to do some practicing on spare sheetrock ahead of time.
In which order do you like to tape, and then fill. Just curious it seems everyone always disagrees.
Thanks bud, I did my whole house with this method.
Thank you so much
very nice tip, thx m8
Great channel
Do you have a video of a corner bead crack repair over a metal fireplace to match the existing "orange peel" texture? Thx.
Thank you!
I have sand texture paint and have to do a drywall repair. How would you do the touch up to on the sand texture to make it match?
Back in the day my dad would do the same with a whisk broom. Pretty much same results
Brooo !!!! So good.😂👍
It looks great. A brush did that? I actually have to do a bigger part on my new wall. It's 48" x 48". Do you recommend I buy the spray since you mentioned the spray was better? And roughly, how long did you wait before knocking the mud down? I watched your other videos but I'm still considering what way to go. There's this powered Wagner texture sprayer that looks promising. Have you ever used it? I mean, we wouldn't need an air compressor.
Nice work
I have a light orange peel texture. Wonder if I thinned out the texture to almost watery consistency it would work.
Thank you
Vancouver I wish you had explained what was the 'mud' you used how you mixed it such as ratio to water and what kind of dry mix is was
as i mentioned before, wait about 5 minutes before the knockdown
so your final result will be more consistent with the original pattern.
too much of the texture runs together when you blade it.
I wish I saw this ten years ago.
Wow great video
That’s awesome
Haha. I'm glad I kept watching. I was just gona comment. That that is not a knockdown texture. Lol. Then you moved to the right patch. Cool
Nice trick
I like your attitude
Wonder what the homeowner will say when he finds out you used his kitchen brush!
Keep it wet in their drinking cups and that shouldn’t be a problem 👍
Hopefully he just washed it
I did a texture with a course roller on my bathroom ceiling. I think it was too humid in there.
I now have a few peel spots and a few where there is more mud than others. Advice?
Thanks, VC. Take care of those kids !
Nice 👍
I cut off a group of pieces of my broom in a pinch at a jobsite tape em together you have perfect little tool to flick it on.
Thank you. 🇨🇦 Carpenter
It looks better than the original knockdown
Do you know why there is tiny pin like holes and craters in textured ceiling. I have just don't it for the second timeto repair cracks on the textured ceilings and it happened both times.
I have seen commengo on another site that the mid was not wet but I thought it was supposed to be pretty wet to apply the texture.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I wonder could you take a mold of the good wall texture, then make a stamp of sorts with mud as your ink ? I have purchased molding kits for crafting,I'm just curious.
How about a video on how to patch or repair sandy textured plaster
Used a brush back in the 80s, and still do it now if I don't use a sponge.
Thanks not bad
That method is a little tricky on a ceiling. Do you have a video of it?
Is knockdown different in Canada compared to other places in the world?
Wow I need that same color for my wall at the place I’m renting what is that color?
Thoughts on the knock down sponge method?
amazing
Ty =)
wow. where can I buy that kind of paint or what's the name of that paint that you put in the brush? thanks
Is that dry wall mud?
Pros know this method. Well done.
Idk , i bought a knockdown can from homax and even on the highest setting, it was still nowhere near thick enough for thr kncokdown i needed to match. Looked way closer to a orange peel, and had some pretty fine size texture. Pretty disappointed. Gonna try the heavy body formula next
Can you use spackle instead of mud?
this dude..... i hope there's not too many homeowner watch this video or i think i will go out of job
No need to prime before painting?
I hope the day comes soon where walls and ceilings and never ever textured again. There's nothing like a perfectly smooth wall with a flat or eggshell paint. It's timeless unlike texture or other wall coverings.
Agree on the walls. Where I'm at there are almost no places with textured walls but a crows foot textured ceiling is easy and looks great and is pretty simple to match a patch.
I agree. I moved from a place where the only texture you ever seen was a rare knockdown on a ceiling to Texas where everything is textured and all super heavy orange peel and crows foot. Which are both hideous to me. I dream of flat walls and ceilings haha
Awesome man.
Q: Why is Walmart's spray texture can better than Lowe's or Home Depot?
We all buy our cans from Walmart, but it's an extra side trip.
Can you do a review please. Thanks a million.
I can look some day. I never would have thought to look for building products in a walmart.
"Okay I'm reloaded!"
What is knockdown?
Wow!
Awesome ))
