  • This is lesson 8 of my Beginner Basics teaching series for learning the cello! This is my last video in the teaching series. In this lesson I teach you how to find 1st position on your cello.
You will need stickers or 2 strips of coloured tape to mark your first position if you want a guiding mark so you can find it again!
I also give you some exercises to play with your left hand to help you get used to playing each finger in 1st position!
    I hope this helps!
In my next video series I will be teaching the basic scales and some fun pieces which you play along to with my cello quartet covers.
    You can follow me on:

Using the weight of your relaxed arm- very helpful! Thank you.

You're the first who explained what it would sound like if it wasn't in tune.
I don't have a musician's ear, so I can't make out octaves by ear. I use a tuner. The way you explained it helps me understand it. Thank you!

Oh snap! No wonder my leaft hand always cramps up on me. No one ever told me to relax the arm and its weight pushes down the stings! Amazing.

Love your tutorial however I wish the music notes appeared else where so I can see how you’re moving your bow in the first position. It’s a beginners dilemma

Starting with the g string and using a chromatic scale is not the best for a beginner. Using a major scale pattern is better because all early pieces learned will use this approach.
