    I'm in the process of buying all the necessary tools! The very beginning of a beginner haha. I've been watching all of your videos and have found them all so helpful. I especially appreciate the video on all the necessary tools. Thank you for doin what you do 👍🏽 Not sure what my first project will be but I want to get up to being able to do a crescent moon. It's what originally sparked my interest in glass cutting

    I started my first ever window ,a triple peace rose window, but I'd use this cutter if I win it on there for sure, next is a multi colour tree of life for my son as a gift to him for helping me build my cabin. I'm so glad I didn't let my setbacks stop me from trying stained glass one more time.

    I'm totally a beginner, just made small project at the moment, even though some were pretty ambitious with lots of small pieces. My next project will be a panel for my boyfriend duo band with portrait of him and the singer. I already draw and coloured the pattern and I really love it and I love the fact that both of them are recognizable even if there are no facial features. I'm so looking forward to receive all the glass I ordered to get started!

    Digging this so much! I am a newbie and you were THE artist that got me moving on this journey! My Husband and I have spent many mornings "together" watching your videos for inspiration and are so thankful you are willing to share your knowledge :). Super stoked to show you the project I've been working on--I have started to collect drift wood that will ultimately become the bases for a series of triangles. Think desk name plate--but sickkk! Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

    I just found you. Just started a glass glass five weeks ago. Love your help! I absolutely LOVE every bit of it except foiling. My weakness. Was looking for a glass cutter that worked with me. I started on the pistol grip. Was curious about the pen grip cutters. Am hooked on stained glass. Never knew anything could take the place of a glass of red wine. This is my red wine. Thank you for your tutoring.

    As I’m coping with changes to life due to covid, and I’m laid off from my job after 35 years, I really need something to help my moral. I’ve always admired & been drawn to stained glass. Always loved it wanted to learn. Thank you for your helpful and informative videos. You are a virtual friend to me in hard times. Might any give aways still be available? I’m just starting out. Learning stained glass is good for my soul.

    So I’ve been watching your brilliant video tutorials and you’ve inspired me to have a go at making the 3 feathers and the dream catcher with many triangles...so that means many many cutting up of lovely glass. I love the cutter you use. It was cool seeing all the different cutters of which I know nothing so thank you for the reviewing. I have a basic cutter as I’m new to stained glass. As a grandmother I believe it’s never to late to learn so thank you for teaching me. I think the giveaway cutters are lovely 😊 and perhaps one would help me with all the many triangles I’ve got to cut out. I really love cutting glass, I love the sound it makes. Take care and thank you for your time and patience. Keep making beautiful things .. it makes a difference 🌿🍰

    I swear I have been searching for a video like this for about 2 months. I started doing stained glass about six months ago and have been using my dads old glass cutter from the 70s!! Itls a piece of work but I wanted to make sure this is something I would stick with before investing more money into it. Anywho I've been googling like crazy and a video like this simply does not exist. It's exactly what I was looking for, someone who knows what they're doing, going over the different styles and different wheels. If I don't win this giveaway, I'm absolutely going to get a Toyo cutter because of this video. Also, I would like to hear your opinion on the pistol grip with doing small detailed work, as I've heard some say it is a bit more difficult. Just if you get around to it. thanks for your videos!! They've helped me along the way.

    Get the cutter body that feels comfortable in your hand. Aside from the dry TC-22 cutter there are 3 other types of cutting wheels for pattern (thin head) cutting. TC-10 is described as a smooth wheel. This is the original I’ve always used it, it works great. Then newer wheels are Tap (TC-600 & 21) tight curves and the Trac wheel that has more grip. Most of these wheels are interchangeable but the TC-21 custom grip super cutter.
    I switched to Silberschnitt. They IMO make the best cutters.

    This was fantastic to see as a new hobbyist to the craft. I recently found your channel but have had a long time interest in stained glass. Your videos have been a nice insight and I'm not as scared to try now. I did recently purchase a Toyo customizable cutter since it looked like it scored high reviews. Even if I don't win the giveaway, it was great to see how each one worked and how to pull things apart and which piece feeds where. My first project is going to be some yard art for a friend. I'm going to go with a Bob Ross feel and aim for some happy little trees or mushrooms and hope that anything I'm willing to practice, I can do. Keep on keepin on!

    You are indeed a good instructor, you take a lot of the pressure out of what can be quite intimidating. I’ve noticed that when cutting you tend to pull on straight cuts with a ruler but then you switch to pushing when you cut curves. Is there a particular reason you’ve chosen this method or did it develop through trial and error? I’m just developing my cutting style and I want to learn best habits.

    • @StainedGlassDIY
      @StainedGlassDIY  2 роки тому +1

      It's very much all about preference and what works best for you. I like to push for curves and sometimes pull for straight cuts. But you'll see others go the opposite and hold the cutters completely different from you and it's all good as long as it works for you IMHO.🤙

    Thanks for the review, good info. All of them look as if they cut better than the one I bought at Ace, which will not cut at all with 50 pounds of pressure on it. Just wonder why a mfg would make eight variation of the same tool. Just make 2-3 shapes at the most. For something different I would expect a diamond wheel or micro teeth on the edge of the wheel or even a different grind angle on the wheel.

    Hi mate. When making candle holders is there any bowls you can purchase or something for the candle to sit in or would you recommend simply soldering a circle for a tealight to sit in?? Cheers, great channel 👍🏻

      I’m sure you can buy such a thing that could be soldered to your glass but I haven’t done one before. If I find out I’ll let you know 🤙

    Already a subscriber and follower on Instagram! I just started and your videos are very informative. I made a hummingbird for my MIL! :) I've sent through 2 "big box" store cutters and would love to try a different brand! 😊

    How often do you have to replace the cutting wheels?

    • @StainedGlassDIY
      @StainedGlassDIY  3 роки тому +1

      They say it's good for 6 miles of cutting which is many many years of work and even then you might not need to replace ever I believe.

    So I'm looking for a glass cutter that I can clamp into my vice so that I can press a wine/liquor bottles up against it to get a score line. I was going to buy a kit of some sort but I know I would want to also cut glass by hand. I want to get more out of my glass cutter purchase. Do u recommend if anyone these will work or a different one all together for what I want to do? Thanks in advance.

    • @StainedGlassDIY
      @StainedGlassDIY  4 роки тому

      Hi! If you're going to clamp it I think the bigger pistol grip makes sense for the wider handle for the clamp to hold on to vs the other pen types. I don't know if that's what people do for scoring bottles but maybe they have special kits for certain cutter styles. Also a straight head is wider than the pattern head so something to think about. Let me know what you find!

    Hi :) I have a question that has been bugging me, but no one seems to know the answer to this one. So, some cutters have a thin head and some are wider. All of yours when you lay them out look like the thin style. Do you know what the difference is?

    • @StainedGlassDIY
      @StainedGlassDIY  4 роки тому +2

      Yes these are all pattern heads for cutting stained glass. The wider ones also work but are used mostly for cutting straight lines like in making windows. Hope that helps!

    which cutter is best for cutting of 0.5mm thick glass?

    • @StainedGlassDIY
      @StainedGlassDIY  6 місяців тому

      I believe you can use any of these cutters or any standard glass cutter. 0.5mm is extremely thin so you barely have to push down on the wheel.

    I would be able to make cleaner cuts with this cutter, and finally make a spiderweb piece for my best friend. I have kept myself from doing certain projects out of fear of ruining them and precious glass especially during the pandemic because I don’t have decent access to decent and affordable glass.

    • @StainedGlassDIY

      I hate ruining nice glass too. Try some free glass like old picture frames and scrap mirrors if you can find some.

    Hello there. I'm probably to late for the give away but I thought I would rop u a message anyways. I've been following u on you tube for a few weeks now and I love your work, your very inspiring to me and you attention to detail is awesome👌 I'm totallynew to this art form and it's taken me a while to get to where I am w this new adventure but I have yet to try it . I feel very passionate about making something amazing like a seahorse or a turtle but I'm also afraid that I'm going to completely mess it up and fail which is a given I know.
    Thanks again for posting videos and for introducing stained glass art to me!! ❤️

    Hi from Ireland!! I've been following you on Instagram and UA-cam ever since lock down hit and I feel like your my teacher!I have watched every video you have made. Your videos are teaching and encouraging me to get braver each time. I really like how you explain the things because you talk also about the things than can go wrong so it's so much more helpful. Because of your videos I have been able to progress so much more and I've got the bug.
    I've been using a cheap cutter it cost about 3dollars? It doesn't have a wheel or oil chamber so if I were lucky enough to win this I'd really appreciate it so much.... It would be like Christmas for me in this lockdown. I plan to make geometric bird flying over a crescent moon because...... Oh, crescent moons do break my heart and my glass supplies... Still struggling with them but haven't given up hope. I've been chopping up all my old picture frames and mirrors.
    Now is a good time to say thank you for your videos and enthusiasm in a weird time. Cutting glass has really helped me get through this lockdown and I'm obsessed with that sound! All the very best, take care and thank you.
