    When you play against Ivan Yovanovitch teams you have to be aware of a little trick he does . I have seen it in his 3 last teams . He always starts with build up from the keeper to defenders and if you pressure them they will try to keep the ball for as long as it safe in order to pull the enemy team as high they can in the high block . In the meanwhile the striker of his team will always move deep in the center of the pitch along with the 8, and 10 and the wingers will stay wide . So when you pressure high the defenders will always look this trio formed in the center by 8,10 and 9 and hit you almost instantly with one of the wide wingers with numerical advantage 3 on 2 etc. The secret is to give him the ball in the areas 1-6 and apply pressure on the mid block . Ofc there are more things he does or you must do but generally speaking teams that followed the above mentioned approach did much better over all in the match pace control .

    The 11 was ridiculous. Our improvement was largely down to Angel Gomes in midfield, freeing up Rice to play his own role. It was balanced. Bellingham and Foden don't need to be playing over having a balanced team. Why Watkins and Gomes didn't start, I'll never understand, can only think its down to Carsley being inexperienced.

    • @ZekkoFootball
      @ZekkoFootball  2 місяці тому

      I agree about Gomes, England severely lack a pivot with composure in possession. The balance should be the main part of the side.
      I think the side he picked was possibly down to the pressures of having to play the best/star players and try to fit them all in a line up, he’s not the first manager to succumb to this pressure and he certainly won’t be the last.

    The moment that annoyed me, was that whilst it was a big shame for Saka to have to come off, they had the chance to bring Madueke on. And if you have Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke on at the same time - why would you not stick Noni on the right, and Palmer as the 10? Their best roles, they have an amazing partnership there every week. I just don't know why you wouldn't do that. I don't get this weird thing of wanting Palmer in the team, but playing him out of his best position to the determent of the team.
    Like we had three 10s on the pitch at once because they're big names. Why? The one who actually started as the 10 was Foden - who was the weakest of the 3 currently. Then you add Lewis and TAA getting so far forward, we left Colwill and Stones to basically be the entire defence behind Rice.
    I'm no one, but the way I'd try to adjust it for Finland (assuming Saka can't play, we don't know) is to scrap Foden off for now, he hasn't earned a start. Bring Watkins in to start.
    Push Bellingham back to the Number 8 role on the left side, I think he can make the biggest difference arriving late into the area, pretty much like the goal last night.
    Push Palmer into that 10 role, with Noni on the right next to him. We know they make goals together. And with Bellingham on the left, there's now room for TAA to invert on the right. (Palmer tends to sit back behind Noni when the rightback inverts at Chelsea) Though I really think the fullbacks should be defending more, they left us so thin at the back last night.
    But the main thing. Don't be afraid to sub people out if it's not working. I don't care if Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer are big names, sub them off if they're not working in the team. And don't wait
    until that magic 65 minute mark to make changes. Like as a Chelsea fan, a big thing I've noticed about Maresca is that he makes changes earlier if he needs to. We don't need an allstar team where 7/11 players think they're attackers.

    • @ZekkoFootball
      @ZekkoFootball  2 місяці тому +2

      You’re completely spot on with all of this, I like your changes and would like to see them in the next game. Balance is essential for a side to progress and it just wasn’t found in this last game.
      On top of that, you hit a really good point around partnerships, the way to blend a national team is to utilise partnerships from successful sides, a really good example is what you mentioned with Palmer and Madueke.
      It’s very early and I am sure Carsley will learn fast, so I’m eager to see what he does in the next game.

    The quality of Englands players and coach is not questionable in this game. For me, what is questionable is the level of intensity and urgency, the dynamism as you said, that was not equal to Greece's side. Let's not rush to make conclusions on tactics. Start with the obvious: don't underestimate any opponent. This is apparent even from the fans comments after the match ..and even from the oppening words in this video :). The figting spirit won this match. You can see it clearly after the equalizer.If the right conclusios are drawn from this game this defeat can become a blessing for England's football mentality.

      I think you’re absolutely spot on with this, mentality and the way players approach a game is incredibly important. England didn’t match the intensity, dynamism and drive that came from this Greece side and paid the price, as you say, hopefully there will be able to learn from this.

      @@ZekkoFootball Also England is now trying to change their approach and start pressing up high like all the successful modern teams (Spain, Germany, Argentina) but they're doing it in a godawfully bad way. Pressing up high is all about reacting fast and pressing the receivers of the passes on their first touch, English players were running after the ball like mindless children but if you watch the game again they didn't put pressure on the first touches of Greek players at all. The first touch of a player is THE best time to make him lose the ball and if you catch him slacking you can even intercept the pass and go at the defense while it's disorganized.
      Pressing high isn't about running a lot... it's about running with red hot intensity at the right space and time and understanding WHEN AND WHERE the right time and space to use that intensity and pressure is... England mid and forward players were running a lot but their high press was godawful...

    Southgate and seemingly Carsley have not identified that you need a disciplined holding midfielder with Rice. Then it’s a case of picking your front 4, fitness aside I’d say Saka, Bellingham, Gordon with Kane up top is the best solution.

      @ZekkoFootball  2 місяці тому

      It does seem strange, doesn’t it? That this issue has occurred once more. That’s a really good front four but would you have no space for Palmer considering the form he is in? Not saying it’s wrong, just wondering.

      @@ZekkoFootball It’s not about leaving him out, he could easily be in place of Bellingham or Saka, it’s just what I think is most balanced. But there could be situations where you may start Palmer or Foden in those roles.

    • @sportschool3537
      @sportschool3537 2 місяці тому

      @@RorZp You need a great no. 8 and England has none... meaning you need a guy like Pedri or Veratti (when used as an 8 and not a pure 6) or to use an old English player Paul Scholes... someone that his natural place is deep in the midfield and has the ability to be effective defensively but at the same time his best traits and qualities are his touch on the ball, his passing vision and his ability to play through balls between the lines to disorganize the defense.
      Mainoo for example has very good ball control and first touch but his passing is just not good enough... Gomes might be closer to that but his defensive ability and focus is somewhat questionable
      The problem is that English football as a whole doesn't support the development of players of that kind... the best I could think of would be Ward-Prowse if Ward-Prowse could be more passable on the defensive side and have a bit more stamina and fight on that side cause his vision touch and passing ability are top tier... or an actual GREAT example of this would be Jack Wilshere before his massive array of injuries that sadly ended his career way too early... Wilshere was actually a perfect no. 8 cause his touch on the ball was fantastic, he was a true box to box player, he had vision for good low through passes...
      Anyway, England is too stubborn to see past "star power" anyway... they were losing to superstars for many years (like Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, Zidane and Henry etc etc) without them having equal stars to match cause the best they had was Beckham or Owen as a star that they thought that stars were beating them while in reality Zidane was useless without Makelele and Ronaldo and Ronaldinho would have never won shit without great worldclass workhorses like Cafu and Gilberto Silva for example... every star needs a bunch of "honest workers" around him to support him... that's the law of football and all sports... and it will never change

      @@sportschool3537 I think it’s why Southgate liked Henderson and Phillips so much. They gave good balance to the side and were disciplined enough to allow Rice to be the destroyer he is. Greece has made significant strides in adapting to modern football, leaving behind years of stagnation. Greek clubs are also working hard, and we’re seeing steady progress. As for the match, it was a poor performance from England, while Greece played exceptionally well-when those two things coincide, the outcome is clear. That said, I don’t expect England to play like this again anytime soon. If these two teams faced off ten times, I believe England would win nine out of ten. Agree with others, Rice is no good as the deepest option, he's stronger playing in front of a true pivot like Gomes. Bellingham isnt good enough on the ball to play deep so his only role is at no.10, where Palmer is probably at his best. So Palmer or Foden goes to right wing, for me Saka is not the answer and clearly not better than those 2. Gordon or controversially Rashford is a more potent left wing. Rico Lewis should never play in defence again, bring Guehi in and Colwill to LB.

      Absolutely, I fully expect him to learn from this, my question was more about the broader world around this, what will the FA think? Will more casual fans accept this? How do the players react (Watkins for example)..
      He has a very limited frame to showcase his skills and I fear (because I like him and want him to succeed) that he might have done himself more harm than good with this one.

      GK is open. if one of the others steps up they can have the #1
      Trent is great, stones is great, guehi/colwill both work as the lcb. It's a real shame we don't have a true LB, I think Rico is going to be one of the best players in the world, probably will make an insane CM but having two inverting fullbacks is very risky in international football. Swapping trent for white then having Rico at LB would also work very well.
      Let's not be daft leaving rice as a DM, he's not that, never has been, he is a world class box to box but needs freedom. I think angel offers that, maybe Wharton but I'm not massively convinced, open to suggestions that don't involve Curtis Jones.
      I think that has balance.
      The attack genuinely doesn't matter. Any 3 of cole, Phil, saka, Jude, grealish. Will cook, doesn't even matter which position they start, give them the freedom to ignore a resemblance of initial starting positiona. It's nonsense to suggest that they can't play together, they can, as long as they have cover behind them that's happy to be defensive. Oh and up front is the hurrikane. Ollie Watkins/solanke are great deputies

    Mad we're still playing Pickford to be honest, his distribution is awful. Always seems to get even worse when we go down as well which just guarantees we've got no chance of recovering. Nick Pope seems to be better by every metric.

    • @ZekkoFootball
      @ZekkoFootball  2 місяці тому +1

      It really is, his utility on the ball really needs work. On your second point, I think that’s because he’s such an emotional player, he plays off the occasions so when there are highs, or moments of resilience he performs better but once the tide turns he tense to falter.
      I really like Pope but much like Pickford, the distribution from the back with the ball at his feet is questionable at times.

      Man City is a team that is all about "the plan" but Guardiola sucks the soul out of players because he doesn't allow for any individual thinking and ideas but only following the plan... so these players when they are forced outside of that system, they've been zombified by it so much that they are struggling to even play without it... Foden is very talented but he's been forced to do only what Guardiola says that when the time comes for him to think for himself and play he has no idea what to do...
      This is a huge problem with modern football... the best players nowadays are nowhere near as good as players 20 years ago because they've been so zombified by coaches telling them exactly what to do in every situation that they have no ability to think outside the box (system)... would nowadays Guardiola let Totti chip keepers from outside the box? Nope... would Guardiola let Ronaldinho do whose absolutely mindblowing tricks that made defenders question their ability to understand the game of football and disorganized them completely? Nope... these are quick examples... Guardiola and most managers today make players ONLY follow the system...
      Do you know why Ancelotti beats Guardiola so often? Because he lets his players free to play... he allows them to think for themselves... he doesn't tell Vinicius to play a specific pass or when to dribble... he just tells them "when you see space, go for it... beat him... I'm not gonna tell you how, you know what you can do, just do it"... Guardiola's system is perfect for smothering less talented teams but when faced with a team with the elite talent of Real Madrid plus players that are allowed to think for themselves and create chaos with individual brilliance and disorganize that system, the system fails a lot... sure, teams like Everton or Forrest or Burnley have no chance against Guardiola which is why City wins the league every year but teams with real talent and the freedom to play (like Klopp's Liverpool) have a great chance against Guardiola...

      @@sportschool3537 Cool story, but the last 2 years Man City played vs Real they made Madrid look like a 2nd division club. Real barely won by the skin of their teeth last year without deserving it and City hammered them in 22-23 so your post is pretty off the mark.

    • @sportschool3537

      @@aekaralagonisi You read the game wrong... yes, City played the more "attacking football" but at the same time they have conceded a shitload of goals that were all the same story... counter attack, Real Madrid players creating for themselves and City conceding another goal...
      And that was against one of the worst Real Madrid teams to ever set foot on a pitch...
      My point is that a bad team with very high level talent can beat City cause they beat them 2 out of 3 times... City's game destroys small teams cause they have no individual talent but players with tons of talent and the freedom to create chaos outside City's strict system are City's kryptonite...
      Anyway, you only look at it on the surface... I look at the depth beneath cause everything happens for a reason... and if a team loses 2 out 3 times to another team there is a specific reason...
      Anyway, I'm not gonna waste my time trying to teach you how to look at a tactical game of football besides who has possession and who plays more "attacking football"

    • @ZekkoFootball
      @ZekkoFootball  2 місяці тому +3

      I did, Palmer played a deeper role for England which allowed Foden and Bellingham to go and press ahead, for their defensive shape to work, Palmer needed to drop back and sit next to Rice to take away the space that I highlighted, as that’s what a midfielder does. Rice had far too much to do, he needed someone next to him to help him rather than another attacker.
      I wouldn’t have played Palmer there but once Palmer is in that position, I think he’s got to help his teammate.
