Watching his impechable finger technique is hypnotic. So smooth and loose constantly transitioning to the proper technique and position for each jump on the fretboard all done so fluid and relaxed with perfect use economy of motion. Not moving an inch more than needed for maximum speed with minimum effort. Never seen such amazing left hand technique. It's truely beautiful to watch such a high level of technique done with such finesse. Outstanding !
That's the secret of playing fast and well. Tension in the muscles prevents you from going fast. Not saying I'm good at it. :-) Joshua's playing is insanely skilled!
This happens to be the first Josh Meader vid I clicked on almost a year ago now, and I remember thinking, "okay, let's see what this chump is made of." I quickly realized he's no chump. I was the chump. He's the future of guitar playing.
In my first semester at Berklee, I was supposed to write a short piece for flute and piano. I wrote the most beautiful melody for the flute player, but she couldn't play it. Turns out that being a guitar player, I had completely forgotten that she needs to breathe. This gave me a very valuable lesson that I still work on 25 years later: guitar players don't need to breathe, which is why they like noodling on without interruption. But all origin of language is our voice, so remember to "breathe" even when playing guitar. Makes you a better player.
@@Bruno_Sappadina Sure, but it will never have "soul" or be creative. Because music is an extension of life and machines can't do anything without the human spark. After all, someone still needs to *program* that AI.
@@sonjaspackenberger9250 everyone “breathes” differently, don’t forget the perception of the individual when projecting ones ideals on to another’s play style, language is very apparent in the body as well, and everyone’s interpretations and stories vary greatly, I think we are at a point in time of music where we should embrace and build upon each other, rather than diminish
@@laserbeams1217 Nope. Sorry. Because music is a language, there are certain objective standards of quality, in addition to personal taste. The two needn't necessarily overlap. Someone shredding runs without ever taking a break can (and possibly should!) be used as a dynamic element. But without any contrast, it becomes meaningless and arbitrary. Think of a great Eminem track, where he just machine-gun raps for ages without taking a breath. It's awesome, but would never work if he didn't eventually break it up and create a contrast. This is something that will become self-evident if you gain a little more experience. It's a common folly of young, technically proficient musicians.
No no, this is not possible....so fluent and fast yet so musical and good phrasing. Musical shredding is possible after all. Someone wants my guitar, after this I will stop my guitar journey.
Exhausting is the operative word. I love cats that play flawless and fast as much as anyone. It takes supreme skill, dedication and, probably, good genes to burn like this kid can without so much as an expression on his face. That said, I find bop rhythms to be exorbitantly fast a lot of the time stripping the tune of its swing. Also, since bop is reliant on outlining chords and creating seamless bridges between changes, when they are played at blinding speeds, the listener is robbed of the elegant architecture involved in doing that at a high level. It's history repeating itself. Remember the shredders from the 80s? He's young yet. I wonder if he writes.
Yep that’s pretty scary, alright. From the perspective of someone who lacks a solid understanding of jazz harmony but is still fundamentally aware of it, this is like watching somebody do various bits of calculus and algebra and trig simultaneously and very rapidly, without mistakes. Pretty amazing what people are capable of.
Not to sound like a math snob but I guess there is no coming back from that opening statement so I guess I’ll just go for it. There are many examples in calculus when you can do calculus, trig, and algebra in one step. Example find the derivative of (sin(3x)/3)dx. Answer cos3x. That’s calculus, trig, and algebra simultaneously, rapidly, and correct. But I get your point.
