  • This is a look back on Johnny Moore's career. If someone was open Johnny Moore was going to find them. As Moore was one of the best passers in the NBA at one point even leading the league in assists one season. Always being a pass first guard but could score as well when called upon. In particular in the 1983 playoffs. Where he put together one of the best post seasons runs you don’t hear talked about averaging 20 plus points while leading the postseason in three separate categories of assists, steals, and 3-point field goal percentage. Helping the Spurs go to the western conference finals. Looking like one of the best guards in the NBA. All before it was taken away from him from as he came ill with a rare form of meningitis called coccidioidomycosis or Desert Fever. Which was inflammation of the brain causing dizziness, headaches, and nausea all of which to an unbearable amount on top of everything it was life threatening at the time. Yet Moore survived his battle and continued to defy odds. As it looked like he was never going to play again as 97% of people don’t make a full recovery. However, Johnny Moore wasn’t most people where he would come back for a few seasons of basketball. Not quite at the same form but the fact that he was out there was inspiring.

Johnny Moore is 3rd all-time in assists per minute (after Stockton and Magic) and 6th all-time in steals per minute. He's the only player who's in the top 6 of both of those career/per minute categories (StatMuse).
