- [4K] A Spooky Castle Dark Ride at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in Northern California. This ride is 100x better than the traveling carnival haunted house ride. $5 per person.
"Get ready for a spooky adventure as you spiral down into the dark dungeon deep below the Boardwalk." - beachboardwalk.com
Haunted Castle is designed and developed by Sally Corporation.

Love these types of rides. I was expecting it to be over-the-top cheesy, but surprisingly it seems to be pretty atmospheric. Especially with those sound effects (some of them, yes, cheesy, but high quality nonetheless)!
I still remember riding it before the renovation where it was just a dozen scenes all repeating "welcome to the castle" and that was it. Flash forward to the first time riding the renovated version (this) and I was COMPLETELY blown away.
They had to make the money for the renovation's budget somehow 😂 Thanks for paying the way for us to have this ride
This ride is an oldy but goody and was recently completely overhauled with completely new interior and scares.
No wonder -- I was watching this and it looked way different and better than the ride I remembered. Always loved it tho! Big fan of haunted houses here!
I miss when the doombuggie swiveled so you would go down backwards.
@@carjay7 I also miss the rabbit coming up from the cauldron! The rabbit looked SO COOL!

*When the edible kicked in and you're all by yourself*
This was probably my favorite ride as a kid! I haven’t been in over a decade but I’m glad it’s still up and running
Fun fact: (It's not shown here cause maybe it wasn't working when filmed, but) the cars actually turn to face certain scenes. At the start you're actually suppose to go down the spiral decent BACKWARDS. It's also why at 2:54 there's an open area with some blinking eye lights set up cause technically you're not suppose to be facing that way.
@Trend101Warrior some parts are turned, most of it is facing forward. Maybe perhaps it's just less of a maintenance cost to disable it.
Yeah. They are really letting this ride go. There are some scares missing or not working. Also the Rabbit Stew became Ratatouille.. lol
@@SirIkeMedia I thought the rabbit animatronic was cool, with its monstrous visage and flashing-yellow eyes!
Its pretty diff now then when it opened. They seem to be letting it go. Definitely needs a refurb to fix many of the details not working
Anyone remember in the 80's the way this ride was? The school bus stopping and everyone inside of it hitting the windshield? Anyone remember?
K Baz that was the scariest part when I was a kid! I’ve been trying to find pictures and videos of it but can never find any! You’re the only other person I’ve seen ever talk about it.
Looks like an old school scary ride.. like the one at Wild Wood New Jersey beach I went long time ago as a child. Children will love it.
You have no idea how many people make out on this ride
Damn, really?
really??
THIS IS SO TRUE
Fear arouses people, especially in a controlled atmosphere. Don't try it at disney though, they watch you on the cameras and tell you to stop on the loud speaker
Because it's under the broadwalk..? Down by the sea? 🎶
I like that bridge feature! Where it looks like something’s coming at you from under a bridge/dock. Actually pretty rad!
It was alright. I liked the Crocodile/Alligator with the dock breaking up.
MrStGeorgeIllawarra it would be cool if the crocodile/alligator popped up at the end in front of the ride vehicle. Anyway this was the coolest effect of the ride in my opinion too.
@@user-vo7lw5xt3p Agreed.
That effect was fantastic
Omg I grew up with this ride!! I don't live in the state anymore so this was fun to see. I love it!
Yeah after Us came out I’m not sure I’ll be able to handle anything related to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk again 😂
that movie's pretty intense huh-
Thanks so much for posting!!❤❤❤❤
Oh god, a classic! I love Santa Cruz!
Gotta love these rides!
Aww I miss Santa Cruz , I used to go there all the time when I was younger
They did an epic job with this
It really looks wonderful!
This reminds me of a Haunted House ride they had in Kings Island that really wasn't scary at all. I remember my best friend and I rode it and she said, 'It's really not at all scary', it was actually quite fun. I loved it, but as far as 'scary' rides go, the best one I've ridden is the Haunted Mansion in Disney World. That's what really turned me on to amusement parks. I have never been the same and whenever someone gives me an invitation to go to one, I am like, 'GAME ON, SON !'
I too love the HM like a chubby child loves cake
What an AMAZING ride!! I would be thrilled to take the journey
I liked the older version better but this one is still fun. Got to go to the dedication and grand opening of the refurb. I like the way they added some local themes.
I was just at Santa Cruz boardwalk about a month ago. Awesome place!
How's the vampire problem?
It's great that Santa Cruz has three quality darkrides!
4:35, some puppet thing was riding wth
ikr lmao
Gotta praise a ride that can keep it's atmosphere on the higher quality side
This place is very fun! I recommend coming here
Is this where our teathered hangout at?
hahaha
I liked the one when i was a kid back in 19 _8. But it has been through a change or two. The cars entered to the left then. Thank You for this, the one I never got to ride.
A park can't spend too much on maintaining and modernizing a dark ride. Always popular.
Nice video of a great ride in not-so-good condition.
One of my favorite rides I wanna go on in Santa Cruz! 🧛🏻♂️
I actually liked this ride, plenty of time to enjoy the scenes.......
That is a really cool ride- thx!
This takes me back!
Gteat spooky Ride hanks for showing
🦄
For a tiny amusement park under a pier, this is pretty amazing
“Dinner time!” I crack up every time I hear that!
It used to ask "More dressing?"
seems like some of the props and the car rotations weren't working
@2:32 OK, I love this pier effect
Awesome video!!!!
Pretty decent i would be happy to give this one a go ! thank you ! :-)
Well, that’s a long scary ride, isn’t it.
OK, this has opened my eyes on how long it has been since iv'e visited Santa Cruz B&B, I never even seen this ride
The cars used to rotate to face certain scenes (Ex: used to face backwards on the way down). Hope they fix it, it would be a shame to see this ride fall into disrepair.
I've gone on this ride since I was little, the cars never used to rotate. Are you thinking of Disneylands haunted mansion where the cars do rotate to face the scenes?
Minuet888 they did, I remember because while I was in the loading station waiting for the cars to start going they spun the cars around and one of the operators scared us
I was thinking the same
Minuet888 The old version was your typical ghost train ride. A few years back, the entire thing, building and all, was demolished, and this version, with rotating cars, was built.
Maxwell Guenther yea i remember facing backwards to go in and I’d be scared 😂
Neat little attraction
That was actually really good, lol.
Looks better than most of those rides in Dubai.
love the music
This is a cool haunted house.
Nice video
Rip, never forget what this ride used to be
Nice desing on the carts
This is interesting.
So much fun
I remember going on this ride when I was 4. 😭😭
And now it really goes
"down under the boardwalk"!
We always appreciated the gator
Would've been cool had they used this ride in the iconic lost boys movie!!
Very creepy ride
Looks really nice. The Swamp Area feels out of place, but pretty good otherwise.
Aw man, the skeleton holding its head is suppose to talk. Bummer.
It's changed so much since I was a child. The plunge is gone. The fun House is gone. Some of the old food places are gone. The Cave Train has changed and may be removed. Sad.
This may be the version of the haunted mansion that our mothers have for us at home, but we’re ok with that 👌🏽
7 people got scared
I think everythings new at this ride
This ride is creepy. 👻
Wait, I think this is where they done the movie The Lost Boys here!!!
Can't belive the rides already over 10 years old, I can understand wanting changes, though the vehicles seem to often not rotate? And they got rid of the rabbit stew, seemed to make more sense to pull up a deranged rabbit by the ears rather than an entire giant rat that you can see the lift support on imo
That is weird I was just there yesterday
Really?
I thought you just looked at people falling out the window of the old mansion in Disneyland
@@wolfie1179 lol
Please upload more Disneyland!!!
Is that it? I was always scared to go on the ride since I can’t handle horror or anything scary but that didn’t seem too bad. Don’t get me wrong it looks fun but I thought it would be much scarier?
Are they really using Midnight Syndicate's music or was that added?
i love the part were the guy, who looks like me in red overalls, stabs you with scissors
Even scarier is losing a match playing tic tac toe with a chicken…
Wooooo……
1:47 Goldeneye 64 Tank Scream!
Watching this cause when I went on it I kept my eyes closed the whole time-
SAME
Isn't this ride cars supposed to be rotating?
the animatronic at the end is not bad but weird how the cars weren't rotating backwards
Merlin’s Forest 🌳😳
lol
NorCal Attraction
Do you think in the future we will have rides in space?
Oh yes! People have always built amusements. Why would space change that?
Boo Spanyer Cassiopeia I can see Elon Musk doing something like that 😂
surprisingly There's no Backstory Behind The Castle Haunting. Theirs a King and That's it.
4:32
お代わりいただけただろうか?
Hai
原始人・・・
was that a demon in an onsen?
i went on that ride
What's going on at 3:09? XD they caught a tourist?
4:30 What's up with the fake Flintstone going the other way? do they just randomly do that on some of the tram cars?
supertuber120 the cavemen are sort of mascots for the boardwalk. They have a whole caveman train dark ride dedicated to them
@@artnandez thanks for the info!

これでもお金かかってると思う。うん。
でもディ○ニーってやっぱりスゴい。
I'm learning japanese, so I'll try to translate this (super-beginner level). Then I'll put what googleTranslator says.
Me: For the price you pay, this ride is pretty cool
Google: I think it still costs money. Yup.
But D * knee is amazing.
頑張ってくださいね
Kann sich aber sehen lassen, sind ein paar schöne Effekte dabei.
Well backwards is broken
Is it an amusement park or a kind of funfair? It looks like a amusement park, but then I don´t pay for a seperate attraction!
Or you are on a funfair, then the entrance is free, but you pay for every attraction. So it is in example here in Germany!
Given what you mentioned it's essentially a permanent "funfair", there's no fee to enter the park but you pay for whichever rides you want to ride. :)
@@StarryFishy Ah ok, thank you, there is no such thing in Germany ;-)
You can go anywhere on the boardwalk in Santa Cruz for free. If you want to just ride *individual* rides you can do that (they are like $5 each)
If you want to ride *many* rides they sell wristband passes for all day, so you can ride everything : )
@@GGiblet Ah ok, so they do it, thanks for the information! 😎
@@Bona2009mo24 you are more than welcome friend! :D
You should play some Michael Jackson Thriller
懐かしいありがとうございました
Too bad you can see the ceiling of the building.
You may not actually see it in person, it may be the way the fellow recording it for us has his camera set
I've been to peoples backyards with better haunted houses during Halloween!
I went on it but I closed my eyes for the whole ride lol but my one cousin was telling my big sister to shut the f up bc she was in the back with him and my other sister was in the front with me
I STILL DONT UNDERSTAND THE DINOSAUR
