It's a hollow victory. Paramount badly needed a hit after Transformers One and IF flopping. Disney already has big hits Inside Out 2, Moana 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine. Paramount does have A Better Man coming out which looks both wacky and very interesting.

@@Klishar122 What made Disney so great in the 90's is that they were unstoppable, no one could compete. The only non Disney animated films that came close were Anastasia and Prince of Egypt. In the 2000's however there is too much completion, making it difficult from Disney to take risks.
Princess and the Frog underperforming already put 2d animation on thin ice, and Winnie the Pooh 2011 failing was the final straw for 2d.

Sonic kept to faithful to the games. Gave Shadow a gun, a motorcycle, gave Maria a blonde with a blue dress who tragically dies, gave Robotnik a grandfather, the best Super Sonic fight scene, Robotnik had an army of "Omega" like robots from the games, used video game music in the fight scenes AND gave enough scenes to the humans (Tom, Maddie, Stone & especially Robotnik) to keep EVERYONE happy! End credits scenes were great!

I couldn't care less for the live action versions of Disney animated movies, especially this prequel to The Lion King that no one asked for. I mean the movie was MASSIVELY unfocused, barely acknowledged the knuckles show and didnt have Wade in the film for more than a minute... if anything it assassinated his character arc from the show and made him a stupid gag character again. It spent FAR too much time on Carey, didnt develop tails as a character AGAIN, the wachowski's were barely in it, the master emerald didnt work the way it should have.... idk man it wasnt that good. It didnt suck by any stretch, but compared to the first one it fell on its face.

    • @DecKrash
      @DecKrash 2 години тому

@@herrikudoI didn't feel that it was unfocused; Shadow's story told in flashbacks was something that I felt was done very well, and rather gave definition through nonlinear storytelling., but I do agree that they should have built up knuckles as a character a little bit, as for tails, he's simply the brains of the group, and I've never really seen much done with him. As for the human element in the movies concerning Sonic's family, from what I've seen, a lot of people actually liked the fact that they downplayed the humans outside of Robotnik. But they gave enough of an emotional punch where it mattered.

Sonic was just concerned with being good.
Mufasa is trying so hard to beat one of the greatest animated films by arguing that it being hand-drawn, 90s Disney flare made it immature and these "close to life" action movies are needed to make the stories "real".
Disney wasn't proving animation was real of anything but being a REAL and amazing tool for storytelling whoch is why he went with animation to begin with.
Too many in Disney now think animation is immature and if they 'like' animation, they always try to censor and stop real innovation and style experiments, explaining why they're stupid Steven Universe shit style is leaking into the CGI sphere, as that's the industry approved style because it's "safe and progressive".
Art doesn't evolve by preventing people from creating it and limiting HOW they make it and the subject of it. This is why Disney has been failing recently. They want art to be a vehicle for politics and politics only and as result, all they can make for a majority is trash because they've strangled art for narcissistic reasons.
Sonic is just pure fun. At the end of the day that's what the series was created for, on top of wanting to innovative the technology capabilities at the time. It's fun and it embraced that.
Something that is aware of it just being plain fun will get more respect from me than something that PRETENDS to be greater than it is, all for the sake of vanity.

Also, I wish the instead of live action remakes, Disney instead followed the premise of Christopher Robin, and made the project more of a sequel to the original work. I admit, there's a certain appeal of wanting to see what iconic Disney characters (like Aladdin, Hercules, Genie, Mickey Mouse, Mufasa, Buzz Lightyear, and more) would look like if they existed in our world (albeit done right, to make them look realistic while sill maintaining their iconic design).

Frankly I want to watch Mufasa but it won't be at the theater. No big deal to me if it flops, I had a feeling it would. The reason it failed is because:
    1. It had to compete with a franchise that people are more crazy about.
    2. People who prefer more violence or action find Mufasa too boring like a nature documentary.
    3. A lot of people don't like prequels/backstories, especially to a character that everyone knows died halfway into the original movie. (Yet, the Star Wars prequels did good)
    4. People are too burned from the soulless Lion King remake to give Mufasa a chance.
    5. Disney changed the first story written about Mufasa and Taka.
    6. People are tired of CGI being called 'live action' when practically nothing in it is real stuff. They miss the talent, effort and color pop of 2D animation.

I saw sonic 3 on friday. It's a good time movie, but not sure it's as good as some are hyping it up to be. Im a huge sonic fan so im not a hater, but maybe had too high of expectations from the it being hyped up too much. It's pretty focused on the small kid demographic with enuff for us older fans to enjoy. It has the best pacing of the trilogy and the battles are very good eye candy.
Funny enough i was in the waiting area and a father came out of a showing of mufasa, he was like that movie is awful haha.

If a studio is putting out an "adaption" or "extension" of someone else's successful brand, property, or work (of which Sonic and Lion King are both one of those things), they have an obligation to the FANS who made those works successful. If they treat those fans with respect, and reward their loyalty (which Paramount did), they will win. If they spit at the feet of the fans (which Disney routinely does), they will lose.

the fact that Sonic 3 has the flower field scene from a game that just released 2 months ago and mufasa completely forgets that the loin guard exists shows how different the people are who made the movie and how much the Sonic movie team cares about the fans and how much Disney cares about the big people in suits

What a lot of people tend to forget is it wasn't just Sonic fans that hated the original design, it was literally everyone. Several media outlets and even the original Sonic creators said it was terrifying. They HAD to change it because the reputation of the movie had been damaged too severely by that point

  • @MercuryAlphaInc

I went to see Sonic. I've never been a hardcore Sonic fan, just knew about things in passing, along with the memes, and of course "Shadow the Edgehog"
But MAN, did that movie deliver. If I was a hardcore fan, I would have probably exploded with the amount of references (and not just blatantly showing things and going "THIS IS A REFERENCE, LIKE IT!", no things that only fans would pick up on or even just gamers, one such thing being "blowing on things to make them work") and the acting was immensely entertaining and fun to watch.
Hell, I knew of the song "Live and Learn" because of the "fans will riot if this isn't in the movie" and when that fucking riff started up at a particular scene... Goddamn. Forreal. Goddamn. Goosebumps all over, and just... The choreography! The visuals, it all just fucking works so beautifully!
Sonic *deserves* this win immensely and I'm looking forward to what Sonic 4 is going to bring.

Hi Midnight's Edge! One of my close friends is a big fan of yours and he introduced me to your UA-cam channel. This video really spoke to me as a big Sonic fan that was hoping Sonic 3 would run circles around Mufasa. Needless to say, I got my wish and my inner child is happy for it. I grew up with Sonic ever since I was little. I played the original Sega Genesis games and also the newer ones too and I have seen all 3 Sonic movies on the big screen. As you pointed out, the creators of the Sonic movies know what their audience want unlike Disney who just make poorly written attempts at cash grabs that talk down to their audiences. Ironically enough, I refused to watch Mufasa out of respect for the original Lion King as I believe Mufasa put another stain on Disney's good-ish legacy of animated film-making. I think everyone including Lion King fans should skip Mufasa and support decent and non-woke movies like the Sonic trilogy. Sonic beating Mufasa is a step in the right direction but I hope we can continue to knock Disney down and keep up the momentum.
God bless your channel! If you don't already, follow Jesus Christ!
