I have not yet seen Sonic 3, but I want to. Saw the first two in theaters, and I WILL see this one. Also, I wish the instead of live action remakes, Disney instead followed the premise of Christopher Robin, and made the project more of a sequel to the original work. I admit, there's a certain appeal of wanting to see what iconic Disney characters (like Aladdin, Hercules, Genie, Mickey Mouse, Mufasa, Buzz Lightyear, and more) would look like if they existed in our world (albeit done right, to make them look realistic while sill maintaining their iconic design).

That's so stupid and also goes against what lions are actually like to boot. There are generally only 1 or 2 male lions in a Pride to begin with and they keep it that way.
Sonic character design is more appealing for kids and for adults, trailer was very energetic and appealing while mufasa was like boring af no emotions at all
Lion King 2 : Simba’s son gets nabbed by a traveling circus and with the help of a wild girl, he rallies his kingdom to rescue his son held by a truly evil Circus showman. Along the way Simba’s son befriend’s the captive circus animals and accepts them despite their lack of wildness.
I watched Sonic 3. As a fan of the franchise I felt pandered to in the best way possible. So much fan service and nods to those who knew them while keeping a more consistent pace than the previous movie. Turns out when you listen to your audience you can get good feedback from them.
I am one of Disney's biggest fans. But as soon as I saw the trailer to Mufasa, I knew I wasn't going to see it. It's a perversion of the original story, in the visual style that no one liked. It deserves to lose to Sonic.
This is why the internet matters. Without it, Sonic would have bombed and Indiana Jones would have been replaced with a woman, alongside James Bond. I believe our UA-camrs played the biggest part in it. Merry Christmas Andre and Tom!!
Does Mufasa have the nepotism of JayZ and Beyonce with a child with a trademarked name of Blue Ivy. Isn't she the same age as some other girl that filed charges of something. I'm so bored and angry right now.
Frankly I want to watch Mufasa but it won't be at the theater. No big deal to me if it flops, I had a feeling it would. The reason it failed is because: 1. It had to compete with a franchise that people are more crazy about. 2. People who prefer more violence or action find Mufasa too boring like a nature documentary. 3. A lot of people don't like prequels/backstories, especially to a character that everyone knows died halfway into the original movie. (Yet, the Star Wars prequels did good) 4. People are too burned from the soulless Lion King remake to give Mufasa a chance. 5. Disney changed the first story written about Mufasa and Taka. 6. People are tired of CGI being called 'live action' when practically nothing in it is real stuff. They miss the talent, effort and color pop of 2D animation.
I saw sonic 3 on friday. It's a good time movie, but not sure it's as good as some are hyping it up to be. Im a huge sonic fan so im not a hater, but maybe had too high of expectations from the it being hyped up too much. It's pretty focused on the small kid demographic with enuff for us older fans to enjoy. It has the best pacing of the trilogy and the battles are very good eye candy. Funny enough i was in the waiting area and a father came out of a showing of mufasa, he was like that movie is awful haha.
My wife and I will be seeing Sonic 3 tomorrow. The first two films were entertaining and earned our trust. I look forward to supporting them again. Disney, not so much. They can rot for all I care.
If a studio is putting out an "adaption" or "extension" of someone else's successful brand, property, or work (of which Sonic and Lion King are both one of those things), they have an obligation to the FANS who made those works successful. If they treat those fans with respect, and reward their loyalty (which Paramount did), they will win. If they spit at the feet of the fans (which Disney routinely does), they will lose.
the fact that Sonic 3 has the flower field scene from a game that just released 2 months ago and mufasa completely forgets that the loin guard exists shows how different the people are who made the movie and how much the Sonic movie team cares about the fans and how much Disney cares about the big people in suits
I saw Sonic 3 opening night and it deserves all the success it's getting. I'm not too interested in a Mufasa prequel especially if I have to chose between it and a Sonic movie.
I went to see Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and my theater was packed. When that was over I walked past the theater showing the Lion King and I snuck in just out of curiosity to see how many people were in there. I was not surprised at all to see only a few people at most in there watching it.
Also, what no one has said, this is Jim Carrey's trilogy of being back on form, and it was great to get his 90s form all over again, and for that I'm very grateful, and that a whole new generation of kids were introduced to Jim and see his genius on screen.
I ready for the sonic cinematic universe !!! Give us a shadow spin off movie trilogy and a chaotix spin off series give us a silver the hedgehog movie a tails spin off series and Amy and cream spin off movie I will watch all of iit
What a lot of people tend to forget is it wasn't just Sonic fans that hated the original design, it was literally everyone. Several media outlets and even the original Sonic creators said it was terrifying. They HAD to change it because the reputation of the movie had been damaged too severely by that point
I went to see Sonic. I've never been a hardcore Sonic fan, just knew about things in passing, along with the memes, and of course "Shadow the Edgehog" But MAN, did that movie deliver. If I was a hardcore fan, I would have probably exploded with the amount of references (and not just blatantly showing things and going "THIS IS A REFERENCE, LIKE IT!", no things that only fans would pick up on or even just gamers, one such thing being "blowing on things to make them work") and the acting was immensely entertaining and fun to watch. Hell, I knew of the song "Live and Learn" because of the "fans will riot if this isn't in the movie" and when that fucking riff started up at a particular scene... Goddamn. Forreal. Goddamn. Goosebumps all over, and just... The choreography! The visuals, it all just fucking works so beautifully! Sonic *deserves* this win immensely and I'm looking forward to what Sonic 4 is going to bring.
I knew I wasn't ever going to see Mufasa when I saw the trailer. I have zero confidence that Disney writers have the skill necessary to tell such a story.
I thought "Giving it the Cruella Treatment" referred to skinning something beloved and then trotting around in that skin in an act of vanity. Silly me. Going to see Sonic 3 with my child tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
I went to the Sonic movies for Sonic, but yeah, it was already no contest, one went above and beyond to adapt a beloved story, the other gave a backstory to two characters that were destined to meet horrendous fates
I went to see Sonic 3 the first day it was showing and at the first showing as well. Loved every second of it, even my brother, who isn't a Sonic fan like me, ended up enjoying the movie more than he thought he would. I even brought out our sisters as an early birthday present to one of them, and she loved it while the other enjoyed it as well.
The devs of Sonic 1 after the backlash to the first trailer: I was wrong and you were right, I am dumb and you are smart! The Sonic fans: Shut up and take my money! Hollywood: What just happened? Why didn't they double down and insult the audience? And however did they make so much money???
Hi Midnight's Edge! One of my close friends is a big fan of yours and he introduced me to your UA-cam channel. This video really spoke to me as a big Sonic fan that was hoping Sonic 3 would run circles around Mufasa. Needless to say, I got my wish and my inner child is happy for it. I grew up with Sonic ever since I was little. I played the original Sega Genesis games and also the newer ones too and I have seen all 3 Sonic movies on the big screen. As you pointed out, the creators of the Sonic movies know what their audience want unlike Disney who just make poorly written attempts at cash grabs that talk down to their audiences. Ironically enough, I refused to watch Mufasa out of respect for the original Lion King as I believe Mufasa put another stain on Disney's good-ish legacy of animated film-making. I think everyone including Lion King fans should skip Mufasa and support decent and non-woke movies like the Sonic trilogy. Sonic beating Mufasa is a step in the right direction but I hope we can continue to knock Disney down and keep up the momentum. God bless your channel! If you don't already, follow Jesus Christ!
i couldnt be less interested in seeing a sonic movie, but im happy for them they are doing well. and its always a pleasure to see the bob iger company fail
If there is something Disney’s good at and that’s giving its customers something they didn’t ask for. No one even asked for this, and yet Disney thought this would be what they wanted to serve to everyone.
I watched Sonic 3, I was not disappointed, funnily enough in the pre-movie trailer section (Whatever it's called) there was something advertising Mufasa, only thing I found interesting was just the idea of a prequel, but the trailer felt hollow and lifeless.
You know if an anime film of the manga Jungle Emperor where to have been released alongside Mufasa and ended up making more money! (For context, Jungle Emperor was translated into English as Kimba the White Lion leading people to speculate that Disney allegedly ripped off Kimba).
I plan to go see the Sonic film after Christmas, too busy right now but I have good expectations for it. As for Mufasa, I didn't even know it was an actual film till this video. 🤭

My 16 year old son and I intend to see it together again at least two more times. And no doubt were gonna get the disc when it comes out.
Sonic popcorn bucket is sitting on my desk.❤😂😊
Disney is a disaster.
According to Jeremy Jahns, the reason Scar turned evil was because he was raised by the other male lions, while Mufasa was raised by the lionesses.
I am proud to say I have never seen a Disney live-action remake, and I never will.
You couldn't pay me to see Mufasa. I made sure to see Sonic this passed weekend I loved it.
Make Disney go bankrupt!
So tired of them being called live action they're just animated they look different than a cartoon format it's 100% CGI
@6:01 - "this weekend was not just a clash of box office movies, but philosophies"....excellent point
Can they even call it "live action" anymore?
Spongebob is more live-action than The Lion King.
I'm actually surprised they didn't make Mufasa gay.
Does Mufasa have the nepotism of JayZ and Beyonce with a child with a trademarked name of Blue Ivy. Isn't she the same age as some other girl that filed charges of something.
I'm so bored and angry right now.
The realistic animals don’t translate the animated emotions like the sonic characters which are much more fun
Frankly I want to watch Mufasa but it won't be at the theater. No big deal to me if it flops, I had a feeling it would. The reason it failed is because:
1. It had to compete with a franchise that people are more crazy about.
2. People who prefer more violence or action find Mufasa too boring like a nature documentary.
3. A lot of people don't like prequels/backstories, especially to a character that everyone knows died halfway into the original movie. (Yet, the Star Wars prequels did good)
After learning a certain spoiler...I'm gonna save my money to watch Sonic 3 in theaters in January.
You're forgetting the adult fans of Sonic as well.
Also Cruella isn't a prequel to the 90's 101 Dalmations movie
Thank you so much!
This is what happens when you give the customers what they want (Sonic) vs giving them what you want (Disney)
Disney has a multi billion dollar worth with an army’s worth of staff and they can’t think of any new original stories?
Mufasa: "Sonic!!! Brother...Help me!!!"
Sonic: "Ya Gotta Go Fast!!!"
Or if they were like me, a 80-90s kid now parent who still went for sonic, tails, knuckles and of course Jim Carrey …you went too see Sonic 😂
I saw Sonic 3 opening night and it deserves all the success it's getting. I'm not too interested in a Mufasa prequel especially if I have to chose between it and a Sonic movie.
I would love to see Black Cauldron, in live action, especially if it was more like the books, than the cartoon.
Most of us adults wanted the see Keanu as Shadow 😍😜
I went to see Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and my theater was packed. When that was over I walked past the theater showing the Lion King and I snuck in just out of curiosity to see how many people were in there. I was not surprised at all to see only a few people at most in there watching it.
Mufasa: clears throat, the Circle of Life!
Scar: Be Prepared!
Mufasa: for what?
Sonic: gotta go fast!
I've never been a hardcore Sonic fan, just knew about things in passing, along with the memes, and of course "Shadow the Edgehog"
But MAN, did that movie deliver.
Sonic *deserves* this win immensely and I'm looking forward to what Sonic 4 is going to bring.
if Disney remade the black caldron they would focus Soley on the black part and make it about race
And gender.
I knew I wasn't ever going to see Mufasa when I saw the trailer. I have zero confidence that Disney writers have the skill necessary to tell such a story.
We have never taken our 5 yr old to the movie theater but we did to see Shadow 🥰 we all loved it ❤️
I thought "Giving it the Cruella Treatment" referred to skinning something beloved and then trotting around in that skin in an act of vanity. Silly me.
Going to see Sonic 3 with my child tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
Not surprised, I saw this coming from a mile away. I expected Sonic 3 to absolutely body Mufasa.
LOL. I have the first Sonic movie in my library. Guess what I don't have, and never will?
Didn't see either because Sonic 3 premiers in Finland on 27th
i couldnt be less interested in seeing a sonic movie, but im happy for them they are doing well. and its always a pleasure to see the bob iger company fail
Saw Sonic 3 yesterday with 5 kids. They all loved it. I loved it. It was a story with a lot of heart and it was good fun.
Sonic 3 is one of the movies i had marked off on my calendar to see. i haven't seen it yet. Mufasa on the other hand, never had plans to see that
I haven't seen Sonic 3 yet because it doesn't come out until Boxing Day here, But I am so hyped for it.
If there is something Disney’s good at and that’s giving its customers something they didn’t ask for. No one even asked for this, and yet Disney thought this would be what they wanted to serve to everyone.
When you realize a blue hedgehog and a red and black hedgehog are way better than some CGI lion.
Hey Midnight's Edge can you do some more retrospective books and novels? I'm curious of one of the crow, conan, barssom, and excalibur.
You NEVER want to lecture or talk down to your audience when you're in the business of making movies.
That is how you drive them away and lose money.
THE AUDIENCE KNOWS WHATS BEST FOR ITSELF
I plan to go see the Sonic film after Christmas, too busy right now but I have good expectations for it. As for Mufasa, I didn't even know it was an actual film till this video. 🤭
Disney still hasn't learned anything. My wallet my choice!
interesting video. i appreciate new perspectives
It wasn't Scar that killed Mufasa, it was a blue hedgehog 🦔
I'm so out the loop for Disney I didn't even know they had a movie coming out
But I knew about sonic
I fully predicted that will possibly perform in once society against sonic I knew that the audience given a viable alternative would be checked fast in droves. This is surprising only to Disney exact.
Sonic: Talk about low budget movies!
I mean... NO ONE, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE ASKED FOR THE *LION KING REMAKE* IN THE FIRST PLACE!!
Why they thought that Mufasa (Villain) being made a poor bad guy that deserves our sympathy would be great? Those spin-offs never works. Unless you have a great competent mature writing. Things that Disney lacks.
But Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonder Wonderland" wasn't a remake. It was it's own thing.
