I've owned my 2011 diesel, an ex demonstration car since it was 5 months old, it had less than 2000 miles on the clock when I bought it, now with close to 150,000 miles on the clock, it's still excellent on fuel, very cheap to run, I use the main dealer service plan which works out very economical, it's ideal for where I live, I can squeeze into most spaces when people selfishly park, leaving a space too small for most cars, , it's basic, so not much to go wrong, it's had a DPF filter, one set of front brakes at 120,000 miles, I broke a spring and wheel on a pothole, and that's the total expense since September 2011, it's regularly serviced and maintained and it just runs and runs, I have no intention of getting rid of it
It should be supported better by UK government. They reduce the space cars take up on the road. We have 3 mile que, mostly with one person per car. They could tax 4 seats as it is registered at dvla extra £75 to reduce congestion with more cars on the road.
Bought a 45hp Cdi for my son last year as a first car (I always fancied one and it's the only way I could sneak one onto the drive). OMG, fantastic car, I use it every opportunity. I've had loads of great cars over the years (mostly top end BMW's, Mini's and Land Rovers) - this is my favourite for the fun factor alone. Found a great specialist (S2Smarts) servicing and running costs are cheap. No stress and one up the badge snobs. Best car ever, (well until I bought a low mileage 84hp cabriolet with Brabus bolt ons as a summer toy which now lives in my garage) 🙂 Daily drive is a G29 Z4, but I'd use the fortwo anytime.
My smart is amazing, maybe due to being the cabrio it feels abit more 'wobbly' on a motorway than the coupe but all i would say is upgrade the front wheels with a rear set and you are away
@slayer21 yeah I've sold it now tho but if you buy a second set of rear alloys and put them on the front it helps so much with the stability of it on the roads there's no need if you only drive in town and don't go above 60mph
I have had a for two and a roadater. I live in Australia. I loved both but out here they are way too expensive to maintain. Parts very expensive. I still miss both cars costs aside.
Have the Electric Drive version from 2012 as my daily commute & city car. Reliable, funny to drive and neglegible running costs. Just sad Smart does not sell an aestethically updated version anymore.
Imagine how successful it could have been had they built it in China or India rather than High-wage, extremely unionised France. It was always far too expensive; that together with lack of dealers are the reasons that I never owned one despite being a huge fan.
Parts are getting difficult to get hold of now, had the Exhaust Box drop and need a chrome pipe replacement, no where has stock. Now having to wait to have the part removed and then have to take the part to a specialist chrome manufacturer to have a duplicate made, been a great car up to this point, but wouldn’t buy another
A bulls..t car only with problems and that Mhd ( microhibryd) will make your life a misery because the generator will broke because it's also a starter and generator and will colaps it's a matter of when not if😱 and the cost of repair is more than 1000 euro🤔. The aktuator and the cluch also will not get 100k km without change it and also more than 1000e so if you want a lemon car a money pitt I advise you to buy it otherwise make another choise and if anyone don't believe me look at the smart forum everywhere.😔
Love my Smart. Cheap as it gets to run, park anywhere, fun to drive, cute as a button. Get one with A/C and heated seats and you’ll want for nothing.

We have owned 11 Smart cars in total, BIG fan😍

Kudos to your efforts to this video and although I have never owned this car, I absolutely love what it does and it's purpose!! :)-
Puts a smile on my face everytime I get in it!
Wow, great choice then
Had 3 Smarties. Great second car. You won’t get much more than 40 odd mpg though.
That's crazy, I wonder why?
They quote double that!
@@mydog3627all that downshifting before acceleration is probably why.
60 + on the diesel model on a run probably more if throttle used gently. YHE only thing I do not like is the bouncy ride like it has no springs.

by upgrade the front wheels with a rear set u mean the same forment of the rear wheels?

@@John.Winchester I see
I have 175/55R15 back and 155/60R15 front
alutec rims hopefully I can get a rear set of them
my smart is ulez compliant but it is not compliant with the congestion charge it is probably too big and would cause congestion ?
Unlike a two tonne electric SUV, which is free of the congestion charge, despite being the size of a truck !
Hi! Would you go for a Smart or pick IQ instead?
Love my little smart car my hand bag on wheels. Car’nt wait for the summer I have turned it into a camper.🚙🚙🚙🚙👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
A camper 😅
Do you have photos ?
What year did they finally change the transmission?

Worth buying in 2024?
I’m purchasing one today 2013 with only 34,000 miles perfect for me I work downtown
iv had 2 of these, will be getting my 3rd one soon
Great review thank you so much

I have mk 2 800 cc diesel auto. 50 mpg 5 speed. Love it.i can drive from Cornwall to Eastbourne no problem 😊
Is that at 70, or driving economically with the lorries?
@@mydog3627 70 mph on motorway .no road. Cheaper to run then my bike old Honda st 1300
