    That feeling of happiness when you come back "home" to the place you feel alive and safe and happy is an incredible feeling, isn't it? I get it when I return to Japan as well from a business trip even after 16 years or so of living here. おかえり〜!

      LoveLyzKelly oh wow! What a coincidence! Last year when I went back to Tokyo for vacation I had a reverse cultural shock which was definitely a bitter sweet so I see where you’re coming from. If possible can you do a piece on Japanese comedy? I always wondered how Americans see Japanese owarai and why it does not translate :-)

    • @christie-annedear6729
      @christie-annedear6729 5 років тому +4

      @@studio500 As a Canadian living in Japan I would also love to explore the topic of our differences in humour! It really doesn't translate to me (sometimes people show me clips and I watch and think, I don't understand why this is funny). I think sometimes my humour doesn't translate either so I sometimes hesitate to joke around with my Japanese friends the same way I do with other foreigner friends.

    • @studio500
      @studio500 5 років тому +3

      Christie-Anne Dear Yay! Glad you resonated with this topic! Japanese comedy is twisted in many layers so it is much more complex but I would love to see foreigners laugh watching Japanese comedy one day!!

    I was in Japan for 4 yrs and I had that same reverse culture shock. I remember my flight out was at Narita; I had gotten used to Japan so nothing really stuck out to me until I landed in D.C. and it was almost like landing in a 3rd world country. Narita was crowded but so well organized, the long lines at security and check in ran really smoothly. I landed in D.C. and it was like night and day, everything felt chaotic, disorganized, people screaming. Watching your videos makes me want to go back to Japan.

      I love how you can chill and have a beer at Narita airport in other countries you're only allowed to drink alcohol inside designated areas but in Narita airport you're able to drink in the waiting areas if you want to and relax everyone respects each other I miss Japan

I have wanted to go to Japan ever since I inherited those letters. Your videos feel to me like what my aunt (about your age back then) described in her letters. Another beautiful video, Kelly! I hope one day to go to Japan, too. 💗

    I'm currently in the first rocky stages of a new job and watching and listening about your experiences and how you choose to push forward and power thru really resonates to me. Sometimes you go thru those little life bumps and its just nice to vent and to know that other ppl are going thru the same exact thing and that its perfectly normal. Like you, I enjoy alot of alone time and that sometimes becomes a double edged sword that pricks you every now and then when the tough times come. You inspire me to keep on keeping on and I thank you for that.

    Happy New Year! There's that old saying, "Home is where the heart is," and it's obvious that, even with a small piece still Stateside with your family, yours has firmly rooted itself in Japan. (It's perfectly OK to have pieces of your heart scattered hither thither and yon -- growing up in the U.S. Foreign Service, I've left bits of my own on 3 continents and it's all the stronger for it.) I'm glad you've found your home (at least for this phase of your life -- one never knows!), and agree 110% with your statement that no place is perfect. What's important is that you have found the least imperfect place for yourself, and I'm happy for you. Never having been to Japan (it's on my bucket list), I'm looking forward to more visits through your videos in the coming year!

It’s been 6 months since my student accomidation was up... since I graduated and I have been under each different parent’s roof each week. Trying to find a job in my profession is insanely hard... so I might just have to do a 9-5 just so I can afford to move back to Bristol. I miss it so much... your videos make me smile again, keep them coming!

    i've been stationed here in yokosuka for two years now and i stumbled upon this series. i've been wanting to stay here long term ever since i first came here and your videos are helping inspire me to get out and explore again. it's easy to become comfortable with the life you have here and forget how amazing the country is. i need to focus on staying here and making it happen for myself. you also make me want to start doing youtube again. keep up the great work.

    I randomly came across your UA-cam videos just a few days ago and enjoy watching them. I love your authenticity and it's so cool that you're following your dreams. Japan looks like such a awesome place. I always lived in NY and so far got to travel to a few states in the US and got to travel to India one time when I was really young since my parents were originally from there. But now I definitely will love to check out Japan if I ever get the chance.

    Your videos have seem to have become happier with time. At the beginning, they seemed to be calm in a lonely, melancholy sort of way. Now they’re calm in the way that you’re enjoying life in the moment. It’s inspiring to watch your growth. :)

    Awesome video. Your light is back, I can see it! Japan gives you the fuel for your light. It's not to say you don't love your family and appreciate the visit, but it's obvious that Japan fulfills you. I think you are right, the content you want to discuss is good and will be beneficial to many people, no matter their current circumstance. I think sometimes it's good to hear from someone else that it's ok to make decisions putting yourself first. Of course your family wants you to come back home, but what they may not realize is that Japan is home to you. I hope my rambling makes sense. I enjoy your videos and glad to see you back home and happy again. :)

    Hi Kelly I just discovered this series about a week ago and I'm so glad I was able to catch up for this new episode! I really enjoy the format in which you present your daily life throughout Japan and it's something that you don't see on any other channels. I'll be excited to watch each and every one of your new videos!

    I’ve been living in korea for two years now and honestly this series has seriously helped me work through a lot of the difficulties I’ve had the last six months living abroad. I love how honest you are and how much you’ve opened up about the hardships you’ve had and I can empathize so much. It’s nice to hear that someone else has gone through similar things and to have you articulate those feelings so well makes me feel so not alone in this lifestyle. Thanks so much, seriously, such an inspiration for me to keep moving forward. Much love as always~

    This is why I love your content. You are a realistic person, not giving out false hopes for other people. You show the ups and downs, and like you said, no place is perfect. I'm learning a lot about myself too, so it is nice to come across someone who is on a similar wavelength to me, and I'm interested to gain some insight on how you deal with struggles. Keep it up!

    Everything you’re saying is totally resonating with me as a fellow Michigander. I moved to a coastal town in Florida and I’ve gotten the ability to do things on my own and explore and get excited about things again. The sunshine has drastically changed how my depression effects my life. I love, appreciate, and respect Japanese culture. Seeing your videos and your passion for Japan is so great. I’ll visit one day I hope soon so I can experience it for myself. ^.^V

    I know how you feel about not leaving. I've been in Korea for 4 years, and I've had both some of my best times and my worst times here. But I love living in this country where I get to do the job I love and experience so many amazing things. I hope you can keep seeing the beauty in Japan for as long as possible

    I really related to what you said about experiencing both the good and the bad and coming to call a place home. This topic is so relevant to me right now, as I had been wrestling with whether to extend my time in Japan past the original, neat, short term. But like you, I am, and I am so happy about living here. Can't wait to hear what you have to say in your next video!!

    I just love your videos because it makes me feel close to my grandmother. She died in 1967 of cancer, long before I had an opportunity to meet her. It's nice to see the city that she used to live and work.

      Amryn, you are so right. Enchanting is an excellent descriptive word. Photos alone do not describe my time there… the sounds, the interaction with the people, every time I leave the only thing that keeps me from despondency is knowing exactly when I’ll be returning.

    I went through similar emotions after living in the US for 8 years I went home to Australia for a month. Honestly I could not wait to get back home to the US. I cant explain why, but in Australia I felt like a stranger in a strange land. Within a month I began my application for US citizenship. An old saying kept echoing through my head........Home is where the heart lies. And clearly for you that place is clearly Japan.
