The reason you didn’t see temples in Seoul is because they are usually near the outskirts of Seoul where the mountains are. Temples are usually built in the mountains. So you have to hike to see them. Even in Namsan there are lots of temples but like in the hidden trails. There is a beautiful temple is Seoul which is called Gilsangsa, hope you have a chance to visit there. And, surprisingly the buddist has the largest in numbers about 40 percent and only about 20 percent are christian in Korea. 10 percent are Catholic and the rest are atheist. There are just too many churches in the city hence, its just seems like they have more believers and temples are hidden in the mountains.

In the past, there were many big temples in the center of a city like Seoul. However, many temples disappeared due to the war with Mongolia in the Goryeo Dynasty and the Buddhist oppression of scholars in the Joseon Dynasty, the Imjin War, and the Korean War.

Yeah compare to other asia country, Korea is more christianier(?) than others..😂 I dont know why..so I was surprised to see so many temples when I visit Taiwan. The fact that the religion is into their life surprised me also. You have clearly catched the diffrences because you know well about Asia:) so cool! Have a nice day Kayla!

Hahah yea more Christian! That’s so cool you went to Taiwan I hope you have a wonderful time! I love you can see temples everywhere in Taiwan, they’re so gorgeous. I used to live in the city of Kaohsiung on a normal city street but right next door was a big temple and my clothes would smell like the smoke from the temple when drying them 😂😂 you have a nice day as well 🥹

Christian missionaries were very aggressive post Korean War. Oftentimes, dangling food and money to a nation devastated by war. Naturally, many converted and became ardent zealous Christians. Oftentimes in present day South Korea, Korean Christians would vandalize temples.
