FAQ's from your comments (this info from SW-Motech):
The ¼ turn fasteners are called QUICK-LOCK and yes, they were one their first products and patents.
There is a keyed lock that can be added to the PRO Carrier mounts, which can be matched up with your locks/keys for your TRAX ADV Cases or even the new TRAX Toolbox.
And locking the bags to the carrier, there isn’t anything foolproof of course but the bags do have the red loops designed for a cable lock if that’s a concern for a soft luggage user.

Had those racks on a Husky Terra and they were excellent. Suggestion for the future. If you are going to talk about details of fittings like the pannier attachments etc, you will need to have well lit close ups. I wanted to see the details of those pannier attachments but couldn’t due to the distance of the camera from the particular feature and the poor lighting. Same for the sw motech quick release bolts. I know what they look like but lots of viewers don’t and need a close up. It will mean a bit more mucking around and only show your hands but it will all be seamless in the final video.
Great to see you reviewing gear as well as bike content. Used SW Motech quick release racks on a Tiger XC800 10yrs ago without issue, im sure their system is even better now.
I have the hard bag setup on my T7 and can attest to the durability of the rack and hard bags after California, Arizona and Nevada BDRs. I was skeptical that the rack would not hold up to tip overs and vibration on trails like death valleys Teakettle Junction. It is amazing how well it works. I will probably buy a set of the soft bags just to help protect the back of my leg during aggressive of road riding. That being said you put your foot down once with hard bags and you will remember not to do that again like riding a ATV before foot guards. Highly recommend SW-Motech.
I installed them on my Tiger 900 this winter. Very happy with them and expect them to perform well on my trips this year.
I just put the M Motos on my 900 RP.
SW-Motech make a small adapter that bolts into the centre of the pro side carriers, with these in place you can easily switch between the four lug and three lug bags without having to keep moving the pins
Ian
The only product I have on ALL my bikes is SW-Motech! I have used ALL the others and nobody comes close. All the luggage on my brand new Triumph GT Explorer is SW-Motech. Same as my previous 2020 Tiger 1200. Everything they make is the best of the best. Great video and review Ian!!
Cheers.
Do you use this same model bag , what size do you like for week-long trips with some camping gear , rain gear clothes and motorcycle gear ? The 40 ll ?
@@roncolpo3731 The best size is 35l or 40l. For long road oriented trips I use the Triumph hard panniers because of security. I strap drybags on top of them and have 2 of the SW-Motech top soft cases, one on the adventure rack and one on the passenger seat. I have the City bag on the tank. For weekend camping trips the SW-Motech soft panniers are perfect. I can fit all my camping gear in them with room to spare. I get my tent, sleeping bag, pad. table and chair in one side and my wood processing and cooking gear in the other. I use dry bags for clothes which are strapped on.
I have SW Motech Trax Panniers and their racks. The racks are nice and easily removable when need be. The only downside is that many other brands of soft luggage company's quick release systems are not compatible with SW Motech's racks since they aren't tubular but more flat (except for kreiga i think).
Ian, I don't have the sw-motech racks, but I have the exact same system on my Givi racks, have hold up no issues offroad/on-road. Even dropped the bike hard, bent them a bit but the quick releases never failed. Both systems look very similar
How do you fit these bags on givi racks fitted to Tiger 900
I didn't like that they were kind of going away from the "universal" four pucks and square tube, but these do seem to have the same servicability and endurance in mind and more specific design class.
Excellent presentation that we have come to expect from you.I concure SW- is top notch product.Thanks.
This is why i come to you for reviews!!!! Looking for a soft set for my 2022 BMW GSA. Really like the clean look of these...modularity.....quick release/attachment too! Thanks Ian!!!!
Glad to help
I just recently watched a video where you were "done" with the hot summer! I had to laugh. 😄 Summers coming! 🏜
I have the same rack on the same motorcycle and I am very disappointed because it makes scratches on my exhaust. As i see in 8:29 of your video when you release the rack you have the same scratch due to exhaust and rack contact. I feel that it may not be safe to load the suitcases for a trip as it may cause damage to the subframe.
Nice review, but I would have liked to see more about the locking system.
Thanks for another thorough demonstration. Question: The right bag is very close to the muffler. Does that create a potential of burning the bag? Others have mentioned scratching the mufffler but no discussion about heat damage.
I bought these and the rack is touching the muffler 100%, very bad design, such a letdown from sw motech..
Thanks Ian, very timely as I was looking at either these or the Mosko bags. I would appreciate your thoughts on the difference. Not sure if they are made for my 2023 Tiger Explorer GT or not so will probably go with the Mosko Back Country.
Could you consider making a comparison of some semi-soft pannier bag players SW-MOTECH, Mosko moto Kriega and Lone Rider
If you do, you might also
consider the Tusk Highland.
Lol expecting another foot here in Ontario Canada...good news I'm off to see an Aprilia dealer after this weekends storm
Nice presentation Ian, thanks. SW Motech makes solid gear - I really like the Quick-Lok tank bags. Have you, or do you plan to review the Kriega OS system?
I have the OS-32 soft bags on my GSA and really appreciate their quality and ruggedness. Their modularity is excellent as well. When fully loaded up the bags (with three OS-12 bags added per pannier) provide 68 liters of storage per side. It's very neat & secure., and I'm surprised they're not a bit more popular.
I have this exact set up on my 2021 CB500X, love it. I see a lot of question in the comments that can be answered by the products website.
I have the Medium bags with SLC racks on a KTM 390 Adv
Impressed so far
You failed to mention about the bracket that the racks are attached to. Do they come with the system or are they just part of your bike? thank you......Sal : )
I just bought a R1300GS Triple Black. I’ve been watching your videos and I really like the idea of soft panniers for longer trips like these SW-Motech WP in large.
They are not cheap and I have some questions and or concerns.
I would like to use the BMW Vario Topcase as my daily bag for storing my helmet at stops and other snacks, drinks, glucose tabs, etc. Are the SW-Motech Pro Side Carriers compatible with the original BMW Vario Topcase rack?
For bag security when I stop for a meal or restroom break…
Can the bags be locked themselves?
I know the quick release is great for taking the bags off, but can the bags be locked to the bike? I would hate to carry filled WP L bags into every rest stop.
Thanks for the great content!
Great Review this was very helpful thanks.
I bought Giant loop, which lock to rack. Very similar otherwise, wouldn't want thieves quick releasing my racks!

Time to buy a plot in the desert and start snowbirding. 😁
Great bag, excellent review. Shame they don't do this system for my SCR950.
Sadly, your camera was a bit far back for us to actually see the detail of the bags, but interesting all the same. How about sponsoring a set and send it to South Africa.... thanx again for your vids, very cool. Blessings from South Africa.🤗🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
The problem with SW Motech is the actual racks. On a lot of bikes, the racks are not the same distance from the bike's center line. IE one bag is several inches farther out than the other, depending on exhaust placement. That drives me nuts...
It's confusing, I emailed Motech to ask if it was possible to mount the M size bags with the removable Pro carriers and they said no, only with the standard non removable carrier, and only the L size bag went with the Pro carrier.
Not sure if you still read new comments this late, but if you do, are the L size bags on the Tuareg wider than the handlebars?
Nice review, Nice to see luggage companies innovating. How much do they weigh? They look a lot lighter than the Moscow Moto bags.
Brilliant kit, wouldn’t use anything else excepting Bumot for hard luggage…
U can re attach the racks again provided u can find the twist locks that flew off in to the distance, not a great Deseign
Can you test a Husy 701? Built it up for adventure!!
Those quarter turn fasteners are "Dzus" fasteners. Unfortunately, it also makes it very easy for a thief to steal your stuff. You may use all kind of contraption to lock the bags on the rack, but it's completely useless if it takes only fifteen seconds to take the rack off the bike.
i think i saw somewhere on their website that there is a kit available to mount the rack 'permanently' to the frame.
Wouldn’t an anti-theft lock mechanism be nice to have…
I think SW-MOTEC has that as an option. I didn’t opt for it for my purposes.
Naw
Can confirm that SW-Motec has locking mechanism as option. You exchange one of the quick release screws with one having a key lock.
What about the bag? Does that have an additional lock?
I use the Sys Bag L and that’s one of my gripes. I literally just got myself a Steelcore lock which will go around the bag and the pannier mount. Not unbeatable for a motivated professional thief but deterrent enough I feel.
Ian, have you run these at all off road? If so, how have they held up? Was the flexing any kind of issue?
how does the soflt luggage behave in speed? I guess its no problem in normal highway speed?
Givi also have quick release . What’s your thoughts of Givi canyon ?
How are you going to lock up valuables in those soft bags?
me too. im so done with winter :(
nice review nice racks and panniers. Please let us know quick release bolts are plastic or metal? and what to you thing about sturdiness and reliability if this quick rack release system?
The bolts are made of steel. And they are relatively Heavy. Same whith the entire rack. Solid but a bit heavy compared to a tube rack.
Nice review but I see several disadvantages to my Mosko bags!
Like what? I am still deciding between them and the Backcountry from MM.
“Dzus” or Camlock Fasteners?
Hi EIAN could you please help me to choose CRF300 RALL or KTM390 ADV i want to buy my first motorcycle to travel with from london uk to africa PLEASE THANK YOU
General question : many soft luggage come with a plastic part to help maintain a shape even empty. What type of material could I use to make 2 for my (Bumot) luggage ?
Maybe DIY something from foam board
Great work 👏
How’s the security? Does it lock to the bike? Does the closure accommodate a lock? Thx
No lock. You would need one of those strap locks if that was a concern.
Dzus fasteners
Why do you think moto companies intentionally produce bikes with screwed up suspension tuning?
Always too soft/too hard springs and damping even worse.
950adv in stock form have 50% sag up front and 18% in the back...
My 640 have the other way around, 30% front, 50% back....
By the book, average man weight if you wonder, so that's not the reason
Two bad for the 660 its over 1200 in USA to get the rack and bags but if you got them in Europe they cost 800 🤷
Good morning! Im from india, my weight 100kg and my height 178 cm ,Age 41. Suggest one good bike for me
How much performance is lost with those giant sails holding the back of the bike back.. I bet they cost 10 mph and mpg+
Yes, they create drag and the stuff inside adds weight. How else does one carry gear?
Inside should be a light colour to see items, not black.
I bought them, bad fit to the Tuareg.. You can see it on your bike too.. The Muffler is squeezed, and on the front there is a gap. Actually the rightside bag points outwards, totally china quality, nothing to do with german engineering. Dissapointed.
Buy a better bike then😂
Nah I would never buy these fake good looking and expensive bags.
They look too shiny and good to catch spoiled bikers.
What more can we ask for? Well, you could start reviewing more ON ROAD touring gear for starters. You've reviewed the bikes, why not the gear for them? We don't all ride in the dirt and don't all want soft bags. Speaking of soft bags, you've expressed your soft bag bias on many occasions, but hard bags make more sense for touring bikes--so don't be so quick to dis them. And by the way, I'm an experienced rider, and I DO put both feet down (on my GSA) when I come to a stop light (despite your claim that EXPERIENCED riders never do). Imagine that--some people don't do everything like you!
Triggered
@@mbal4052 Didn't mean to--you should have posted a note about your sensitivity!
nobody is interested in reviews for luggage systems from unknown brands, we want to see motorcycle content and reviews, rankings, comparisons, don't dilute the content with this meaningless stuff
hahahaha
This comment is hilarious! I needed that laughter- thank you!!
Speak foir yourself! I was in the market for these so this vid has been really helpful.
Then you go ride in the snowy streets just so you can get a “review” !!!
Unknown? They make almost all the cases and bags for euro and Japanese manufacters. You want oem panniers for your bmw or yamaha? Guess who made them?
Unknown😆huge in Europe, best kit out there, get back in that cave😉
