The Visitors is and always will be my favourite ABBA album. It is so mature and adult-like compared to their previous works, simply because it was written and recorded at such a difficult and turbulent time for the group with the divorces and the cracks beginning to form between them as a unit. All four members have said the sessions of 1981 were very tense at times and you can definitely hear and feel this in The Visitors. I wish they had made another one in 1982/1983...
The Visitors was the most musically complex too. Much more chords used from different scales, which adds to the otherworldy vibe that this song has for example. Also, it somewhat strange vibe of 'the day before you came' comes from this use of chords out of scale
I agree. Just discovered it. Sounds VERY ahead of it's time, especially with chorus and how hard it hits along with the spooky but pop friendly vibe. A personal favorite! Now, to find a version that is of the original mastering. Very hard to come by. Wish me luck.
So right, been listening to this since I was a child. Now I'm 42, learned the piano and guitar, I dream one day of getting drums lessons to make a cover 🎵🎵🎸🎸
If this truly is the original video, then it is a Masterpiece. I was born in Stockholm 1970 and grew up with both their english and swedish songs, but I have ALWAYS favoured this one. Just never seen the video. This song was released 1981 and Anni-Frids hair just didn’t look like that then. That hairdo was not in fashion then, so I doubt this is a real video. Lips also don’t synk. But if it is - the videographer and director made a true masterpiece.
An underrated masterpiece... the haunting guitars and bass... Ole brought his best to the drum beat on this one. Now I know it's the opening song in the Voyage experience, I want to get on a plane tonight for London
I had this on vinyl as a little girl in the early 80s. I was OBSESSED with abba, my parents loved them too and bought all their albums! The albums always had fold outs with photos of the band and I wanted to be exactly like the blonde one, she was my total idol! I love them just as much today as i did back then, and this song is one of my favorites 😍 ❤
Love the arabic vocal melody, some great( what i describe as) purple ultra violet notes...heard this for the first time last week after watching an abba doco..my hair stood up when i heard the vocal melody...like the first time i heard dusty springfields 'goin back'
Uniquely and brilliantly ABBA. Has anyone else ever even tried to capture this awful moment of political terror? Without preaching or pontificating about it? Unmatched in so many ways.
I must confess: this song is a masterpiece and surely their best work over all. It combines so much elements, from prog rock (newer Genesis), Beatles experiments (Strawberry Fields, Tomorrow never knows) and a really deep moving and creepy lyric.
The Visitors ABBA: What More can I say? XXX This Musical Pop/Rock Band of the 70s 80s Pure Genius, This Album was One of my Favorite around 1980+ When The ABBA TREND Had Hit Britain like A Tornado, Abba- Mania Gone Crazy,!!! ABBA Fans All over, Yes I Admit I Was One of them, Back in the early 70s, I Became Hooked on their Music And the TWO GUYS BJORN & BENNY Wow, How COOL Both Handsome and Genius, With the Help from their lead Singers Anna & Frida Beautifully Trained Voices X X X X Thankyou for YOUR music. X Ice-Maiden X Dec 18th 2019. Still Love their MUSIK!!!
I never heard this song until a couple of years ago, when I bought an Abba compilation which included this track. What a revelation! This is a solid gold, meticulously crafted masterpiece (as were all their releases), and one of the best things they ever did. It quickly became one of my favourite pieces of rock ever, full of portent and brooding drama. I love the dry, anechoic phasing on Agnetha's voice in the verses. Not what I would ever have expected to hear from Abba - but they always had a few surprises up their sleeves. Or even in their sleeves... This track demonstrates a hugely advanced maturity in the songwriting, and seemed to signal even greater things in the offing. Yet so often, when that kind of stage is reached, writers come to a brick wall, and feel that they've done their very best work, and pull back or quit for fear that nothing they do from there on in could ever eclipse what they've already achieved. Abba went as far as, and perhaps a little bit further than their strained relationships could have allowed. They were unique, and they will be remembered for the rest of eternity.
Her dad wasn't in the SS. He was conscripted into the regular army. The Russian bit is close though seen through the eyes of a political dissident awaiting a visit of the secret police.
Love this ABBA song....it packed the dance floors back in the day. Wish they had done an official video of it. This is best Fan-made video so far I've seen !
I hear the doorbell ring and suddenly the panic takes me The sound so ominously tearing through the silence I cannot move, I'm standing Numb and frozen Among the things I love so dearly The books, the paintings and the furniture Help me The signal's sounding once again and someone tries the door-knob None of my friends would be so stupidly impatient And they don't dare to come here Anymore now But how I loved our secret meetings We talked and talked in quiet voices Smiling Now I hear them moving Muffled noises coming through the door I feel I'm Crackin' up Voices growing louder, irritation building And I'm close to fainting Crackin' up They must know by now I'm in here trembling In a terror evergrowing Crackin' up My whole world is falling, going crazy There is no escaping now, I'm Crackin' up These walls have witnessed all the anguish of humiliation And seen the hope of freedom glow in shining faces And now they've come to take me Come to break me And yet it isn't unexpected I have been waiting for these visitors Help me Now I hear them moving Muffled noises coming through the door I feel I'm Crackin' up Voices growing louder, irritation building And I'm close to fainting Crackin' up They must know by now I'm in here trembling In a terror evergrowing Crackin' up My whole world is falling, going crazy There is no escaping now, I'm Crackin' up Now I hear them moving Muffled noises coming through the door I feel I'm Crackin' up Voices growing louder, irritation building And I'm close to fainting Crackin' up (I have been waiting for these visitors) They must know by now I'm in here trembling In a terror evergrowing Crackin' up (I have been waiting for these visitors) My whole world is falling, going crazy There is no escaping now, I'm Crackin' up (I have been waiting for these visitors) Now I hear them moving Muffled noises coming through the door I feel I'm Crackin' up (I have been waiting for these visitors) Voices growing louder, irritation building And I'm close to fainting Crackin' up (I have been waiting for these visitors) They must know by now I'm in here trembling In a terror ever growing Crackin' up (I have been waiting for these visitors) My whole world is falling, going crazy There is no escaping now, I'm Crackin' up
I love “The Max” such a great dance floor and all those different levels in the back patio and the other dance floor....... that place is amazing!!!! I go to Omaha for business and every time I’m there I make sure to visit “The Max” and also “Flixx”😀
@rampguy1 Yes, this was their last hit from their last album. ABBA, while a big hit in the 70's was struggling with the new sound of the 80's, but in 1981 they changed up their style and went heavy into synthesizers. The Vistors was a result. While it wasn't a big hit for them, I tought the song is brilliant. It has a very surreal and somewhat 'spooky' feeling to it. This is a song I typically play around Halloween. Those not familiar with it think it is new. I just say, "Nope, it is an old song by ABBA". The look of disbelief in their faces when they find out it is ABBA is priceless. I was looking forward to more of this from ABBA, but sadly, they broke up just after the album was released.
Too bad, they broke up, imagine what other inspiring songs they would have composed down the road...yet, Frida and Agnetha ought to be in the singing game again.
***** Agnetha had a solo record come out last year. It has a decent single on it, a duet with Gary Barlow (from Take That) called "I Should Have Followed You Home." There's a remix of it called "7th Heaven" that's better than the album mix, I think.
***** I know Agnetha had to mobilize all her professionality to record the song, but in the dark??? I cannot believe that. Why? The had been couples. They knew crying also of each other. However, this was not their last song. That was "under attack".
This is my favourite disco group from my childhood . It is the music of my memories to where I came from and began . In 1970 . Now I am 43 . I can play it untill the end of all times . FOREVER !!! I also adore the song Eagle a lot .
I never saw a video for this song back in the 80s and (until midway through) assumed this was actually the official video. Excellent!! It may have already been posted, but I read that this was actually written with the Soviet Union in mind with how they would break in where Christians were meeting and drag them away. Benny or Bjorn took that idea and wrote this song. But they didn't want to be political back then, so they didn't make that known until much later. I love this song.
... as they say, "the best things come last" - and "The Visitors" was definitely a great album to (almost) close this incomparable chapter of pop-music!
stands the test of time better than most trax from the period shows the true depth of a mature abba. this could never be covered or re released by anyone else better than the original which marks it as a best track......
MUSIC, outstanding, singing, outstanding. Haunting song. Love to hear it every so often. very DARK album. The beginning of the END. Shows the talent they had, all had POST ABBA careers.
Seconds into this song and the dance floor was packed at “The Bar” in Champaign Illinois back in 1982. I absolutely loved it! That place is still open but it’s called Chester Street. If you’re ever in Champaign, check it out!
That was amazing considering they never did an official video for this. Does anyone know why? This track was hot in the clubs in 1982. Love so many Abba songs but this one stands on it's own.
I believe, until recently, this was their last tour and their last album. Divorce proceedings were proceeding and Agthena said she just could not continue. Such a loss for all.
The intro song to the ABBA Voyage concert - no words can describe how cool that was.
It send shivers down your spine
Opening song of the Abba Voyage experience- and what a track to get things going. Simply brilliant.
Freda was underrated. She has an exceptional voice.
This song was about 10 years ahead of its time.
The production quality is out of this world!!
A Frida foi a vocalista principal em 35 músicas dois discos do ABBA com nome de música os vocais são da Frida The visitors e Super Trouper

1981,a very special year,indeed.
Previous works were masterpieces too, which enabled them to get to this place!
The Visitors was the most musically complex too. Much more chords used from different scales, which adds to the otherworldy vibe that this song has for example. Also, it somewhat strange vibe of 'the day before you came' comes from this use of chords out of scale
The Album is the first Cd-release 1982 in Japan. In Europa etc 1983
The things I love so dearly:
the books, the paintings, and furniture.
This is a masterpiece, So far ahead of its time early EARLY 80:is. Abbas best song imho.
I agree. Just discovered it. Sounds VERY ahead of it's time, especially with chorus and how hard it hits along with the spooky but pop friendly vibe. A personal favorite! Now, to find a version that is of the original mastering. Very hard to come by. Wish me luck.

o yes. thought most of their early stuff upto dancing queen was crap but this is a brilliant song
It reminds me of Tommorow Never Knows from the Beatles

The REAL music videö please! These make-overs are not fine. Song is great ;-) love it
Brilliant!
Love this masterpiece by ABBA. This song is one of those that was made so far out in time, I still don’t believe that we’ve caught up to it yet.
Song for all ages
Among the varieties of pop music groups is most important group.
This song opens the ABBA Voyage show, so perfect!
My favorite Abba song. I love all of their songs, but this one just KILLS me!
same here
I had this on vinyl as a little girl in the early 80s. I was OBSESSED with abba, my parents loved them too and bought all their albums! Awesome Track! Frida`s Voice is brilliant!
The Visitors is not a dark album at all infact it is rather spectacular every song is sensational and the album has one of the best title tracks ever.
My favorite from that album, and for a bit in general, was Head Over Heels; I love a good tango.
Never heard of it until just now on the exclusivity abba hits stream. Absolutely fantastic
Agree. Also check out 'I let the music speak'
Uniquely and brilliantly ABBA. Has anyone else ever even tried to capture this awful moment of political terror? Without preaching or pontificating about it? Unmatched in so many ways.

I really think it sounds like if the guys listened to the Beatles doing Tomorrow Never Knows, and wanted to do an ABBA song based on the same sounds.
They were definately into Prog those days.@@davidfrench5407
LEGENDS Their best song on their last album.
ABBA true to there music this iconic tune brings out what a class band they truly are big up THE VISTORS what a tune
Crackin up what a tune so far ahead of there time ABBA RULES THE AIRWAVES 2023

Frida sings the verses, not Agnetha.
Just like the Beatles, they knew when to break up the band
In fact is Frida who is singing...a very underrated singer...and yes, the song is the best of the whole album.
@@jordicamps7379 check her solo album featuring Phil Collins. I am addicted to her solo career
FRIDA!! La voz de Frida es genial!!
80s was the last true decade...it was the BEST....pure gold really
My understanding is that this is a song about Fear of a Russian Invasion, sung by a Woman who's Dad was an SS Officer.....
Her dad wasn't in the SS. He was conscripted into the regular army. The Russian bit is close though seen through the eyes of a political dissident awaiting a visit of the secret police.
Oh right, thanks!
chelseacharger
It could be NKVD.
70's were even better
The dark side of ABBA, my favorite side.
First time I heard it, the lyrics sounded like it was about alien abductions ;)
SIMON GÅRDH
We all did, but it was actually about Soviets punishing political opposition.
I still do
Name of the Game is dark too..same vain
Still pretending it is
Not dark at all! How brainwashed with all this darkside crap are you guys?
This is so so fantastic will in front of its time love it 😊
I once had a coworker who was really good at self inflicted drama and thought this was the perfect theme song for her. 😂
Abba could do any style of music...this is stunning
This song is something else, I grew up with Abba and got sick of the bubblegum. This is a grown up record.
The best song they ever recorded timeless!!!!!!!
Just beyond! this is sonic art of the highest order. FANTASTIC!!!
Awesome Frida, you're amazing 👏❤️👍
Love this ABBA song....it packed the dance floors back in the day. Wish they had done an official video of it. This is best Fan-made video so far I've seen !
The music is absolutely beautiful just like In all their songs.
I hear the doorbell ring and suddenly the panic takes me
The sound so ominously tearing through the silence
I cannot move, I'm standing
Numb and frozen
Among the things I love so dearly
The books, the paintings and the furniture
Help me
The signal's sounding once again and someone tries the door-knob
None of my friends would be so stupidly impatient
And they don't dare to come here
Anymore now
But how I loved our secret meetings
We talked and talked in quiet voices
Smiling
Now I hear them moving
Muffled noises coming through the door
I feel I'm
Crackin' up
Voices growing louder, irritation building
And I'm close to fainting
Crackin' up
They must know by now I'm in here trembling
In a terror evergrowing
Crackin' up
My whole world is falling, going crazy
There is no escaping now, I'm
Crackin' up
These walls have witnessed all the anguish of humiliation
And seen the hope of freedom glow in shining faces
And now they've come to take me
Come to break me
And yet it isn't unexpected
I have been waiting for these visitors
Help me
Now I hear them moving
Muffled noises coming through the door
I feel I'm
Crackin' up
Voices growing louder, irritation building
And I'm close to fainting
Crackin' up
They must know by now I'm in here trembling
In a terror evergrowing
Crackin' up
My whole world is falling, going crazy
There is no escaping now, I'm
Crackin' up
Now I hear them moving
Muffled noises coming through the door
I feel I'm
Crackin' up
Voices growing louder, irritation building
And I'm close to fainting
Crackin' up (I have been waiting for these visitors)
They must know by now I'm in here trembling
In a terror evergrowing
Crackin' up (I have been waiting for these visitors)
My whole world is falling, going crazy
There is no escaping now, I'm
Crackin' up (I have been waiting for these visitors)
Now I hear them moving
Muffled noises coming through the door
I feel I'm
Crackin' up (I have been waiting for these visitors)
Voices growing louder, irritation building
And I'm close to fainting

Glorious 🎉
Miles ahead of the pack. Genius production and an incredible song. Probably their best
Love Frida on this song suits her voice so well!!!
The Visitors is a mature album its not dark in anyway and this song is one of the best that they have recorded.
Adam Dawson love this song so much... It is beautiful
The music is awesome.
ABBA's most political song, dedicated to the oppressed people in (then) Eastern Europe and South and Middle America.
Schizophrenia is such a terrible mental illness. More should be done to help.
*HUG A DAISY TODAY*
zonary1 Clearly, yes.
+zonary1 lol
I like that song. Its anti communism inspired many people in Russia and Eastern Europe to keep their hope that the tyranny was about to end
Bernie sanders wants to bring it all back
This song packed the dance floor..... " The Max" Omaha, Nebraska USA
I love “The Max” such a great dance floor and all those different levels in the back patio and the other dance floor....... that place is amazing!!!! I go to Omaha for business and every time I’m there I make sure to visit “The Max” and also “Flixx”😀
omg if they ever played this again at The Max I might lose my mind...know anyone who's DJing there anytime soon? @robynmusic @konichiwarecords?
This sure is another style from abba than the previous albums.. but it's soo good! One of my favourite songs!

ABBA’s “White album” - to THIS day (2020) love this song !!!!!
One of their greatest tracks!
Well put together video. A great pity that ABBA never released a promotional video as I think it would have been a masterpiece
IIRC the band was pretty much finished as a musical unit by the end of the album.
ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER !!!!
This is my favourite disco group from my childhood . It is the music of my memories to where I came from and began . In 1970 . Now I am 43 . I can play it untill the end of all times . FOREVER !!! I also adore the song Eagle a lot .

Clips used in this video: Rose Red (2002 miniseries) Under Attack (ABBA promotional video)
There was never a promotional video done for this song. One of life's great pities
A great ABBA song
A Songs who's message is becoming frightingly actual today.
... as they say, "the best things come last" - and "The Visitors" was definitely a great album to (almost) close this incomparable chapter of pop-music!
the best Abba song!
This is such a bad ass song! Hella good!
stands the test of time better than most trax from the period shows the true depth of a mature abba. this could never be covered or re released by anyone else better than the original which marks it as a best track......
Absolutely brilliant record-way ahead of its time-a masterpiece that will be played in 100 years and beyond!
Not sure why at least a promo video was not made for this song.
This song never got the credit it deserved. A big change for ABBA at the time. Great song ❤️
''Lay all your love on me'' is such a great song that they really, really should make a stand alone version of it. Hundred times please.
That is my favourite one.
MUSIC, outstanding, singing, outstanding. Haunting song. Love to hear it every so often. very DARK album. The beginning of the END. Shows the talent they had, all had POST ABBA careers.
Absolutamente fantástica essa música! ABBA forever!!!
Вечная мировая классика, мне 61 ❤
gives me a good rhythm while running. love this song so much.
The song is so scary and so good! =)
It really is!
Great video for this deep and extraordinary Abba song!
The right song in the right year.
Seconds into this song and the dance floor was packed at “The Bar” in Champaign Illinois back in 1982. I absolutely loved it! That place is still open but it’s called Chester Street. If you’re ever in Champaign, check it out!
Michael Holly omg. To hear Chester Street. I went to U of I in 1985-1987... danced there many Saturday nights
Masterwork.
Their greatest track..................along with LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME! Iconic memories of an iconic group! Wonderful. Bierney45 XX
Omg..the red glowing dome under the stars at the Saint NYC..awesome memories!!!
I can smell the poppers now, bro!
Fartpants As is your name ;)
love this track. epic. awesome. radically different from the rest of their songs. just wish ABBA did more songs like this one.
That was amazing considering they never did an official video for this. Does anyone know why? This track was hot in the clubs in 1982. Love so many Abba songs but this one stands on it's own.
I think they no longer had the urge to do much promoting all their songs and this fell through the cracks
All of ABBAs Lps are great and yet this one is sooooooooooooo special and different... my favorite!!
Круто!!!
The great voice of Frieda...
I have this single as a promo on vinyl....
interesting angle from Abba near the end, darker, weirder. Great!
really good sounds, it seems to say - breaking up, love it.
100% АББА !!))
MY favourite ABBA track
Grande musica do ABBA
Brilliant production...I would die to work with them...
The haunting images in the beginning is from "Rose Red" if I'm not mistaken. Wonderfully put together with the song! Great job!
What a fantastic song! But I gotta say I was able to understand only about 50 % of the lyrics so I had to Google them! Thanks for sharing.
Wow! Very nice.
LA CASA DE ROJO ROSADO! EXCELENTE IDEA PONER ESAS ESCENAS EN ESTA CANCIÓN DE ABBA!!
One their best
Lots of hidden meaning in both the video and song. "The Piper" is very real
NB 2 in first edition of list og hits by Polish Radio Chanel 3 , 1981
WONDERFUL, THANK YOU
I believe, until recently, this was their last tour and their last album. Divorce proceedings were proceeding and Agthena said she just could not continue. Such a loss for all.
Amazing 🎉🎉❤❤
Their last album is gloriously moody, dark and musically stupendous.
very very nice!!!
Its brilliant..... LOUD 🥳🥳🥳 and through headphones
2:36 That 80's feel!
