Do not remake this movie. No amount of CGI digital effects can do justice. There aren't any more acting giants like Shaw and the chemistry of all three including a director who took 8 hours to do one shot because the alternative shot which took 1 hour would not have the same effect. He held out for the movie he wanted to make. Classic Shaw and Scheider.

this makes me so sad. 273,000,000 sharks are killed annually by us, and 4.2 people are killed by a shark each year. you are more likely to get killed by a coconut ( true) than by a shark. we cut their dorsal fins off, for soup, and them chuck them back in the water to die slowly. sharks are not killing machines. we are. Ah, the movie that made everyone so scared to jump in the water, the movie that made the shark a fearsome killer monster, the movie that made Steven Spielberg a major name in the world of Hollywood, and one that, along with the first Star Wars film in 1977 two years later, kick-started the Summer Movie craze that continues today. This was truly Universal in its 93-year (1912 - 2005) cinematic prime. It's sad that the Universal of today cannot recapture the greatness it once held during its glory period.

Great film, but in hindsight a terribly irresponsible movie. I mean, just listen to the narrator of the trailer calling Great White sharks mindless, killing machines. It's been proven that this film has caused immeasurable damage to shark populations. Again, a great film but it has had sad consequences.

Easily Spielberg's best and most balanced film ( Raiders is close too). What makes JAWS so good is that Spielberg has been blessed with great actors, a superb script, and the idea of "less is more". People forget that with a few exceptions Spielberg's films have been rather spotty, especially after E.T. Also Jurassic Park was actually not that well reviewed and Schindler's List actually gave Spielberg a huge critical boost. Regardless, I was ten when I saw JAWS and thought it was the greatest thing ever. Now as an adult, it's obvious that JAWS gas aged way better than me!

I’m so sick of these movies were the characters are overly idiots, and the horror is quick and not needed, for example, look at the sand movie. Or other horror movies, the seventies really were great, parents were strict and whipped their children, children behaved nice, Elvis still was alive, and other good stuff, and the Vietnam war ended in 1975,when jaws released. I’m not saying that not all time periods have good films, look at the James Bond movies,or mission impossible dead reckoning,I find many other good movies in different time periods great.

Spielberg wanted to direct Lucky Lady with Burt Reynolds and Liza Minelli but he asked Sid Sheinberg President of Universal Pictures for his advice and Sheinberg said he could make the other movie but it wouldn’t have any commercial appeal so he got forced into making Jaws. All the production problems persisted and Spielberg remained angry and bitter at Sheinberg the whole shoot but it paid off because Spielberg became a household name and went on to keep making great movies after another. If we didn’t have Jaws as hard as it was to make we wouldn’t have Spielberg’s legacy the way it is.

No offense to the great George Burns who won the Oscar for best supporting actor at the 1976 Oscar ceremony for the film The Sunshine Boys, but Robert Shaw gave the best performance by an actor in a supporting role that year. His character was at odds with himself, the Sherriff, the marine biologist, the town and of course the shark. It seems whenever I see a character who is at odds with the world a great performance is about to be had. Shaw's performance in this film did not even receive a nomination which just goes to show that the issues in today's headlines regarding the Oscars is as old as time and memorial.

Honestly people just leave them be pit your self in their shoes/fins. I saw this movie when I was 16 years old & I didn't like it at all, because sharks are not evil man-eating monsters! They are beautiful, powerful, apex predators that deserve respect & conservation. Sharks attacks are rare. The great white shark may have a menacing face, but it's surprisingly a gentle giant if you get to know them, if we learn facts & the good side of these animals & care about them, our attitudes are slowly changing. But yeah, I'm gonna give jaws 2 out of 5 stars.

Four of the five attack victims were killed. It just goes to show that truth is stranger and more terrifying than fiction.

    The movie turns 45 today!
Still a classic in every way
Between the shark animatronics the music by John Williams the suspense and the actors this is the first summer blockbuster that set the template for many to come
Even my sister confessed to me a while back she’s terrified of sharks

The outstanding actors. The tense music. The great white taking down 3 barrels! Quint's agonizing final moments. That horrifying trailer. This movie had it all...and I loved every minute of it!!

This film is the ultimate horror film in some ways because of the fact you cant deny it COULD happen. Unlike say Nightmare on Elm Street or It where you know theres no way it could happen. This actually COULD HAPPEN

The guy who narrated this has the coolest voice ever. He sets the mood for each trailer. Even the Taxi Driver trailer, which was also amazing!
