It's been a difficult time for the Royal Family in recent month with the King and the Princess of Wales currently receiving cancer treatment.
This has meant other Royals have been taking on more engagements and responsabilities.
So much so that Prince Edward appears to have taken on a leading role within the Royal Family.

Read a history book and find out how this monarchy has evolved over its 1000 year tenure and why you don't fix what's not broken and what has given birth to many governments around the world. Try educating yourself instead of asking asinine questions. People do not closely follow what they feel is a "cult", as you have described the monarchy as being, unless you are looking to join what you are calling a cult. People find value in having a monarchy, they want to preserve their history and traditions, not to mention the monarch is paying the treasury half-a-billion pounds every year, and the monarch is no longer a ruling monarch as there is representative government, that's why, dufus! This is not even taking into account the added tourism revenue because of people like yourself who have great interest in a monarchy that has nothing to do with their country.

I’m an American. It seems to me that the Royal Family provides a vessel of stability, and keep lit the flame of comfort and hope. This is above and beyond all their multitude of charities. Yes, they are human and sometimes make mistakes. Tourists swarm to the UK, in part for the tradition, history, and pomp that goes with it. I wish we had something similar in the US. Everyone needs hope.
@@stephanieknowles7586 They have some of their own charities, but they are mostly patrons of charities. They are not all their charities. So they support them as well as have some of their own. Unfortunately this is unique to the UK in terms of having a present RF and the ceremonies that take place there because even in the other realms, this is not part of the monarchial experience as they don't reside in those nations. The only way to have this is for your country to have its own Royal Family who resides in your country, so even if the US was a realm, it wouldn't get the same benefits that the UK does.
The queen absolutely adored Sohphie , and both Edward and Sophie are such a bonus to the Royal Family , was so pleased when they were named Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh ....❤❤❤

Prince Edward and Sophie are a credit to the royal family. The end made me cry. They are a lovely couple Sophie loved our Queen. 😊
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. The Duke of Edinburgh has stepped up marvelously. Because of his low profile, this exhibition of inner steel is unexpected but so admirable and most welcome. The palace must be careful not to overwork him. He looks a little frail.
Good observations / comments . I think he is tough like his parents - he reminds me so much of his father with less bite -more tolerant I’d say of people in general .
Edward and Sophie have done an enormous amount of travelling over the last 6 months and I admire them very much.
Edward and Sophie have been a credit to the family and their nation, for a long time now…and it is very easy why the Queen loved Sophie like her own daughter…she is a marvel…as is the Princess Royal.
I’ve been saying for several years that I hope Lady [Princess] Louise will take up her HRH…she’s the only close Royal that can fill a large generational gap within the family as a “working Royal” for years until James is an adult - and it be nearly a decade until George and Charlotte can.
The late Queen and Phillip must surely be looking down from above with great pride for the “Wessex”/Edinburgh family.

No. Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh has been placed in the Counsellors of State line which means he is one of the FOUR people who can legally represent the Monarch if/when he is ill or out of the country (numbers 5 and 6 are never needed to be called on which is why Harry was dropped down to there). Having said that, for the past 20+ years both Prince Edward and Sophie have been working Royals - but the media ignores them. If it weren't for UA-cam you wouldn't know who he was or what he does. I am so proud of ALL our working Royals but nobody is 'a new leading man' or woman; they support each other when necessary.
Totally agree with you. Most of the information I have seen about Edward and Sophie was on an American, Sue Smith’s channel. The dastardly English Press are too busy printing stories and photos of the two ex royals, Harry and Meghan.
Many people knew of Prince Edward long before the internet was even something which people had. People knew of all The Late Queen's children since they were born. There was television and there were print magazines, etc., you know? Now as for his work, I would agree that unless you follow what the royal family does on their website, you would not know, but anyone who has been following the Royal Family for decades has known who Edward is since 1964 and then Sophie since before 1999. He's Elizabeth's son!

I have always respected and admired the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, they are intelligent, warm and thoughtful and above all caring. They have been under appreciated, now is their time.

He is beloved by everyone and works tirelessly and always brings a calm, peaceful atmosphere to all his engagements (except when he’s showing his humorous and playful side). People who don’t understand the difference between MeeGain and Megyn Kelly are good examples. I commented that I’m still waiting for Kelly to apologize for nasty comments she made on her show about Catherine Princess of Wales, and these uninformed losers crawled out of the woodwork. They were absolutely sure I was commenting on their hero, MeeeeGain Markle. Just makes my head ache sometimes.
