I have been drinking for 65 years and have stopped for 9 months and found people think there is sum thing wrong with you that is the biggest thing happen to me
I'm currently 6 1/2 years sober !!!!!!!!! LOVE IT !!!!!!!!
Congrats! 🎉 I am 4+ years without & never going back!
Thank you for your video, Dan. I was sober for a year too but relapsed when the social pressure got to me. Man…it’s hard getting back on the horse after falling off. Your video is helping me get back on track to being sober. I know all too well those days getting black out drunk and then now, alcohol being part of every social interaction. Appreciate your candor throughout the video and the inspiring updates!
Hey, sharing this is valuable. I'm 9 months into quitting alcohol, so what you share is a good reminder one shouldn't get too relaxed abput this.
I also took a year off after the Huberman podcast. I saw Dan was doing the same thing, and I loved that there felt like a new community trying sobriety. I like the quote about it being the only drug that makes it feel like you have the problem w/o it. That’s what I felt like when I told people I’m choosing not to drink.
In the end I did a major white water rafting trip and I celebrated by finally having a beer. It did not taste as good as I remember, but I’ve decided that I will only drink for very mindful and special moments like putting my life in danger 😉. I will ask myself “is this drink going to add value to my life?” It’s a short term fun but you pay for it that night and the next days.
We came to a similar conclusion

I have not drank alcohol for 40 years. 🦅🇺🇸
OK, these are some good reminders, there’s no question that increasing your mental clarity and boosting your drive, comes with quitting. Yes, there are many ways to kick the habit, Steffon Barkload's Quit Drinking Forever is what worked for me, best shortcut I go’ogled that took days without withdrawal.
Good stuff. Stopped drinking for 9 months once. Have now come to the same conclusion that I prefer it much more without. So looking to go for a year +
By the way - Huberman's video also played a significant role in my decision to quit alcohol. 🙂
Same here!
Same!
Me too! Quit drinking in July 23’ to see if I could take a year off. Haven’t missed it at all since filling that space with healthier activities.
Thank you!
Can you explain please how do you socialize with friends, family, meetings with business partners, trips, what do you order at fancy restaurants, bars, clubs, hotels, on vacations etc esoecialy as you live a high quality lifestyle and money is not problem for you?
Just trying to get perspective and quit alcohol...
Keep up the good work, praises from long time bartender
What to drink? Water. I’ve not had alcohol in 4.5 years. Water is good. Slakes the thirst. Does not make me snap at the wife. Does not make me drive poorly. When I’m feeling fancy, Pellegrino.
Thank you, specially during event , everyone is Drunk...
This was a great lesson! Especially the conclusion you drew! I feel like in the very early stage of giving up addiction habits I'm so strict and rude to myself I would never be to anyone else. I feel like I needed one to tell me to not take things too seriously. Thanks!
Moderation in all things, including moderation. 😉
great perspective - thank you for taking the time to reflect. Willpower is a great determiner of overall success
Love the foot & crotch comparison too!!
CONGRATS !!!!!!!! 1 YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!
So much great information! Thank you Dan for the lessons 🙏🏻
I quit almost 4 years ago after trying mushrooms, and I'm never going back. my life has improved by a lot for that single reason
I kinda had a drinking issue for 3-4 months in 2018, where I was drinking pretty much daily, but challenged myself to be sober for a full month, and did it, even tho it was difficulty. I got down to drink about once or twice a month after that, untill the day I was offered to try shrooms, and haven't even considered drinking, or even tasting on alcohol ever again
I wouldn't recommend anyone to consider shrooms just based on how it worked for me, but if you know someone who's familiar with it, let them guide you thru the information and eventually the experience of it, as high doses might scare you really bad
Way to go, Dan! 🎉
I used do drink a lot, few times a week and all weekend. Now i dont touch alcohol for weeks on end but then maybe summer starts and with that bbq, being outside, vacations and i let completly loose and drink whatever.
Dan you are the man!
One month of not drinking and I feel great for it! Gonna keep on going.
Awesome! Best Wishes!
Thanks
Nice bookcase behind
Thank you!
Good for you👍
Thank you, for sharing, your story👏
Hope it helped!
