Is it possible to paint a pickguard with nitrocellulose?
In this video I'm experimenting with painting and relic'ing pickguards ... so YOU don't have to ;)
I learned some important things and destroyed 2 pickguards in the process.
Anyway, my Strat-Partscaster is finally (almost) DONE!
With this project I want to make something special and unique with the visual style
This Partscaster is meant to be personal and inspiring to me even if everyone else will hate it. That’s kind of the point of building a Guitar like this I think.
I started out heavily inspired by Novo guitars by Dennis Fano - and my building philosophy is - not to reinvent the wheel- but rather try to learn from the greats.
I’m a guitar building beginner with my fourth guitar/partscaster build.
I built my first guitar under corona lockdown in the summer 2020 and guitar building kind of hooked me.

i like that you're willing to try things that are unconventional, regardless whether or not other people like it. i'm stripping a squire classic vibe jazzmaster that got pretty dinged up, and your creativity has been helpful! i also downloaded your white novo schematics... that'll be a build in a couple months!

Turned out very pleasing! You could try hairdryer and ice spray, maybe more effictive for cracking the nitro. Cooling the scratch plate and careful bending it maybe... 😊
Thanks so much. You are right… maybe there’s a way to crack nitro on plastic but I think I’m done with that for now 😝

Hi Michael,
I made one of your guitars and during the process I made a mistake when painting it. I put colour, and then a clear coat on the guitar and then realised there was a little imperfection in the in the finish so I sanded back a small area and sprayed the colour again. It looked great. BUT when I sprayed a light clear coat over the top the colour instantly cracked due to a reaction.
It appears that the clear probably wanted to bond with the clear underneath the colour...
I left it for a time while I sulked about how dumb I was and when I went back I wiped it off with a light sanding. What I found was it had done this crazy cracking pattern, so I left it.
It was just a cheap spray paint (for car touch ups), not nitrocellulose.
