HW and the Sooze check out the Kemper's Compressor stomp. At first glance it may seem the Kemper's single compressor block would make it fairly limited, but the compressor in the Kemper can do a lot. Between the Intensity, attack, squash and mix controls a wide selection of compression can be achieved.

Thank you for this video. Definitely cleared up some questions I've had.
I think the "Squash" knob is similar to what in conventional compressors is called "Release". That is, how fast or slowly the the compressed sound gets released. So turning the Squash knob towards -5 would be a fast release (what in the video and in the manual is described as a less squashed decay) whereas turning the squash towards +5 would give you a slow release (what in the video and the manual is described as a more squashed decay). Now it can be then argued that release time and decay squash aren't the same thing. I don't know exactly. That's why I said it's similar, as I was trying to find a conventional equivalent to KPA's compressor knobs.
The profiles and tones you get from the Kemper is incredible and the tips have really helped me. Oh, and that Eastman is awesome. Would love to pick one of those up these days. Gotta get past the cost of the Kemper first though lol.

Very difficult to get that Brent Mason country (chicken picking) sound so I have always ran a Wampler Ego or Keeley 4 knob through a loop. Wish I could ditch the pedal and get that exact same feel with the onboard Kemper comp. You never did share your ideal settings with us and we can't see the numbers in the video. Been waiting for a good Kemper compressor video, well done!! (also, your lighting on your videos is awesome!)
I wish kemper would update the compressor. I have a keeley pro that's perfect. They should give all of these controls, and even give an indication of when you are hitting the compression stage by showing something on the display.
Great video HW, thanks again. At a certain point I was confused as to why even put compression on if it robs you of your dynamics. But you really cleared it up and brought it all back around later in the video. Compression does still seem to be more useful with a clean tone than a distortion tone though, would you agree with that statement in any way?

Hello, i think in a few words that: 1) intensity parameter is threshold+gain compensation 2) attack is attack time 3) squash is the release. What do you think? Cheers.

I've watched a lot of your videos and have been enjoying them to great extent. I've wanted to ask you about your impressions of running pedalboards with the Kemper. I have watched the recent video dedicated to running pedals with the Kemper Stage and found it really informative. My question is this: do you notice similarities in how the Kemper responds to pedals ran via its fx loop? I have a few boutique pedals that I would not want to part with, and I was wondering what kind of nuances were involved, or what two, or three things to look for would be. Thanks!

I enjoy pedals into the Kemper, particularly dirt into the front, and wet effects in the loop.
What kinda settings would you recommend, if i wanted sustain, but wanted to keep the pick attack and the dynamics in the beginning of the note? Kemper doesn't make these too easy to understand:/
You can view the attack as milliseconds. So the higher the attack, no longer it takes it to grab the note. You had it right the first time.

@@thesoozeTJ sorry I wasn't clear. Logic wise you can view it as milliseconds although it isn't. But higher number - > slower attack.
If I'm using the stomp compressor, should I disable the amplifier compressor in the stack?
I’m right in thinking there’s more than one compressor option on the Kemper now?

Great video, but you're describing the attack backward around 12:45.
From the manual: "Attack - Adjusts the reaction time of the compressor. The higher the “Attack” value, the LONGER it takes for the compressor to kick in. This will let the first peak of the signal pass unaffected when you hit a string, thus increasing the percussiveness of your pick."
