  • My jewelry website: www.CupidsCharm.com A romantic tour of Marie Antoinette's home, the Petit Trianon, that I photographed during our visit to France in October 2012. Beautiful music and photos. The whole story of Marie Antoinette and Versailles makes my heart ache! Something so beautiful and romantic and heartbreaking about all of it. She had about 20 years as queen in this amazing place. The end of the French monarchy was a heartbreaking thing.

May Queen Marie Antoinette Rest In Peace. I love her so much and the petit Trianon was her favorite place. When you go there you can really feel her essence and a feeling of joy mixed with deep despair. Every time I visit I can’t help but to get emotional. I really can feel her presence there and that brings me a huge feeling of nostalgia and melancholy. I love you Queen Marie. RIP.

It has been over 20 years since I visited Versailles. I went with a friend, who was not that interested in sightseeing, so we stayed just a few hours and then had to board our tour bus. I missed seeing The Petite Trianon. This video was just perfect! I enjoyed all of the small details like the hardware on the doors, the chandeliers, the lower level areas and such. If I ever go back, I will not miss this for the second time. Thank you.

The french may have murdered her, but they can NEVER destroy her exquisite taste or HER MEMORY!

The Petit Trianon was built before her time, during the reign of Louis XV. Marie Antoinette made very few changes other than her own bedroom and replacing fabrics on the furniture. Her biggest contributions were the gardens, the addition of the theatre, and the hamlet, but even in those areas she was following popular trends of the times.

This is one of the best examples of French architecture in existing now . It is a far more complicated building than the exterior lets us see . There is a mezzanine floor on one side of the building disguised by a unique window design that look like ordinary French windows on the exterior . The upper floor is divided up into a warren of little rooms for family , guests and royal attendants. And of course the beautiful interiors and furniture . It is easy to see why the Queen loved this little chateau so much .

I was there a month ago on a Monday. All of the palaces were closed. That allowed us to wander the gardens. It was great to see the photographs of what was behind the facade. I’ve been planning to. Go back to France to experience all that I missed..

PopRoses You are obviously not really educated in the true reality of Elegance, perfection, and sensitivity of the ' period ' of the Oueen' when she occupied the Trianon! Am surprised the curators allowed you to produce the complete opposite of what she created !

The Petit Trianon is just that; Petit! Such a small little house and how ironic that the French peasants crucified Queen Marie-Antoinette for her "extravagance" when in reality, Her Majesty had such simple and cozy tastes. The coolest feature of the Petit Trianon is the windows which can be covered by mirrors - aside from the that, the Chateau is quite small and charming. Nothing spectacular :)

    • @daniel_sc1024

It may have been petit, but it was far from simple. It had its own theatre building, elaborate and extensive gardens, and the Queen's Hamlet, which despite its rustic exterior had rooms befitting a palace. Then there was the adjacent Grand Trianon Palace and the great palace complex of Versailles next door.

@@daniel_sc1024 I have visited Versailles and the Trianon complex's 7 times since 2007 and each time I am underwhelmed. They are GRAND and must've seemed like Heaven on Earth in the 18th century but, The Petite Trianon is just that - "petite" it is a small house with very simple furniture and designs. I bet the angry mobs of Paris would've been shocked to see how simple the Queen's private dwelling was and as for her theatre - all the ornate figures are actually made of PAPER MACHE'

@@Napp28 The Rooms on the piano nobile and the bedrooms upstairs have richly carved paneling. Even the rather plain walls of the grand staircase are offset by a very elaborate wrought metal railing on the stairs. And although she didn't alter the architecture of the building, or the principal rooms on the piano nobile, she did change fabrics and order new furniture: "The furniture delivered to Trianon nevertheless displayed greater lavishness, notably that made by Jean-Henri Riesener...The magnificence of his marquetry and gilt-bronze mounts equaled the furniture then being delivered to the private rooms at Versailles" (Trianon and the Queen's Hamlet at Versailles, by Jacques Moulin). A close look at her bedroom furniture carvings of garlands and flowers, and richly embroidered fabric. Her "small" theatre designed for an audience of 250 may have paste decorations, but all that decoration is gilded, and the upholstery and walls are covered with rich blue fabric. She also entertained on a lavish scale; six new kitchens had to be added to the grounds to handle her banquets.

@@daniel_sc1024 oh I know; the Trianon and Le Hameau are breathtaking but, they are on a human scale. The rumours in Paris had Her Majesty walking on floors covered in Emeralds ..when in reality her taste was more subdued than that of the previous Bourbon Monarchs. My favourite feature in the Petite Trianon is her Wardrobe Room whereby the windows can be covered with mirrors at night time .. for privacy and to reflect the candle light.
In August of 2019 I was inside the vestibule of the little theatre and i highly doubt it could hold 250 people .. but it is very well done.
Don't misunderstand me; the interiors are lavish but, I think the angry ppl of Paris assumed her quarters were more like the Hall of Mirrors ...
