      Lmao, he doesn't care. He seen the SM7B on Joe Rogan so it must be better. The SM7B is a muddy mic, often sounded like you're talking through a wet sock. Procasters tend to have more clarity and detail, and can be EQed to work better with just about any voice.

    • @annekedebruyn7797
      @annekedebruyn7797 3 роки тому

      @@ulfrinn8783 The SM7b is better as long as you treat it as a broadcast mic with proper processing.
      The Procaster is great if you don't do or barely do any processing since it has that 80 hz boost, 200 cut and shelf at the high end build in. Essentially, you would just have to compress and you'd be 90% there. That's why you favor it.
      Even if you disregard podcasts, the SM7b is still a studio favorite around the world for both music and broadcast productions for a reason.

      @@ulfrinn8783 What some call muddy, some call smooth. I think it has a nice dark sound, but considering the procaster is half the price, I would take that.

    I definitely appreciate this video!! 💕 I appreciate and found it helpful with you sharing the wavelengths and the comparisons with and without the audio effect. You mentioning the noice caption and also how it can sound different on podcasting versus not sounding as different on UA-cam was helpful too!

    The difference between those two mics is noticeable but not vast. The question is, is that difference worth so much money? At the moment, 30 April 2020, in the online shop gear4music, where I order most of my sound related stuff, Rode Procaster costs 159 £ and Shure SM7B is 409£. That's 257% of the price of Procaster! I might agree with you when you say, that SM7B sounds better but is it 2 and a half times better? I don't think so.
    I'm not saying that someone shouldn't buy SM7B because it is a great piece of equipment, especially if someones budget allows that. I'm just trying to say, that if someone is looking for high quality microphone they should at least consider buying a Procaster. It might not be the best mic out there, but it might be good enough to save up that 250£ and spend it on something else. Remember, you still need a descent interface, preamp, dbx 286s for example, and a mic stand or boom arm.
    Good video. Cheers.

    • @MikeWilley
      @MikeWilley  4 роки тому +2

      I definitely agree, the big question for any individual is exactly that, is the advantages of the SM7B worth the price jump. I think everyones answer will depend on the objectives. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

    I love the Røde products. I’ve used nothing but. I find their quality of sound really high. Being an Australian as well, I guess I feel a sense of pride in supporting my locally manufactured products. That’s not to say the Shure isn’t a good microphone. It absolutely is. But I’ve had a great run with Røde and personally, that’s where I’ll stay.

    Personally I think the Procaster sounds better for your voice, at least the Raw audio does. It's much brighter and captures it well without introducing ear chewing low-end. I listen to podcasts all day at work, and if there's too much low end audio, it tends to hurt my ears after a while. I have a Procaster, and would never replace it with an SM7b since my voice has enough low-end naturally, and it doesn't color the sound as much.
    Both great mics in their own ways, and neither one is perfect for everyone. Mike DelGaudio doesn't even sound that great on an SM7B, and he has the voice of a god.

    Idk what the problem is either your room isn’t treated perfectly or your gain is set really high. But your audio during your face video sounds distorted. At the same time when you stop talking I can hear your noise gate turn on. I’m thinking that your gain is just set really high during recording.
