I bought this mic and started second guessing if I made the right decision. Wondering if I should exchange it for the Shure 7. But after this I feel soooo much better. I just love this mic I love the feel of it the weight the look. I feel much better. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I would recommend using Samson MBA series of boom arm instead of Rode one. It costs literally same but supports up to 2.3kg of weight. I used MBA48 in the past for particulary Procaster installed inside PSM1 for more than year. It kept position perfectly and it never let me down. Now, due to some work space reorganization I have switched to MBA18 insdead and re-used MBA48 as a LED key light holder. Also regading XLR Mixer - imo, RodeCaster Pro is extream overkill for streaming purposes or small utube channel. GoXLR Mini will be much more cheaper and will have pretty much everything needed for this microphone works right, including gates, compressor and additional gain without additional cloudlifter. And the last one. Rode Procaster - is one of the best dinamic microphones for streaming and podcasting in non-specially treated environments, it does not require sound proofed studio to work great. Obviously it will not help on construction ground or having constantly screaming child on your lap, but it is good enough to isolate a passing by car, a washing machine and fridge in same room with computer.
Listening on AirPods, I'm hearing what I regard as an unacceptable amount of hiss with every word you say (for example between 3 minutes to 6 - I'm hearing the noise gate pumping). Is this due to using the mic further away than many people do? Is this fan noise in your room? If that case you need to place your PC further away and use the mic closer.
It's definitely the noise of the PC fan coupled with the fact the mic is quite far away from his mouth. I have a similar issue with my laptop fan and I don't have the option to move it so I use a de noise plug-in from izotope Rx 8 standard to fix it. You could also use Nvidia noise suppression software but I find this takes more out of my voice than th izotope software
He has a mighty amount of sibilance in his speaking. This, combined with the small physical size of the ear buds (making them better at high frequencies), won't be helping in the slightest.
Audio is coming across very clipped and distorted with a nasally sound. Do you feel this due to the DAC on on the Procaster or is it onboard signal processing? What are the supported file file formats on this unit?
I have read that the focusrite scarlett 2i2 3rd gen doesn't have enough gain for the rode podcaster. Do you or anyone know a decent that's $120-$140 mixer that has enough gain so I don't need a cloud lifter?
Hello!! I have the 2i2 + Procaster, and yeah, my gain is up super high. I thought about getting a Cloud Lifter, but saw that the fethead is a great alternative, apparently - it's like half the price, and plugs into the mic. You get 20dB (as opposed to the 25 offered by the Cloud Lifter), but it might be fine for those who want one less cable, and a little bit less money spent. I'm thinking of getting one when I have some dollarydoos saved up. Hope this helps/inspires some research and alternatives for you! I am by no means any kind of expert also 😅
I'm using a Scarlett Solo 3rd gen and it works fine without a mic activator, but you *will* have to be quite close to the mic (Rode recommends within 5cm anyway). My gain is set to ~85% and I get an average level of -20dB with peaks around -15dB when speaking at a normal volume. Preamp hiss isn't an issue; if I amplify it until there's audible noise then it seems to be just my computer's fans.
Are there other mixers that work well with the procaster? I like the sound of the processing but 600 bucks is a bit much, are there cheaper alternatives or is this something you can do with software aswell? I will mainly use the mic for gaming, team meetings, school work and sometimes voice overs for school projects.
I would pick an audio interface that can drive the yeti without a cloudlifter. I personally didn't like the look of the focusrite solo so i picked the minifuse 1 and it can drive the sm7b
For anyone still interested, I ordered the Elgato Wave XLR which has a mic preamp strong enough to run a Procaster without a cloudlifter and also a headphone output strong enough to run 250ohm studio headphones all built into a little box.
@@theoutsiderjess1869 Hey sorry, bit late to the party. Curious if you mean the minifuse 1 drives the sm7b without a lifter of any kind? I've been holding off on using my procaster with my minifuse 1 until I got a cloudlifter or some alternative.
I would. When I ran mine, I needed it at nearly 90% gain, unless you use a interface with MIDAS preamps, or other preamps that can push the microphone. I was using an interface similar to the scarlett, and it had lots of noise because of the needed gain.
Actually, a Cloudlifter plus a basic mid-range DAW like the Focusrite or Behringer UMC allows you to dispense with the RODE mixer altogether. Saves around $900! In either case, I find you really need a Cloudlifter or a Fethead, otherwise to get the signal you need you're pushing the gain on your DAW or mixer up to around 7 or higher, and you start getting line noise and other junk. The Fethead is actually cheaper than the Cloudlifter, sounds just as good and provides even more gain. With a Fethead, I record at 3 on my Behringer's gain dial. -I do adjustments in post with Davinci. It sounds really good.
This video did seem like a promotional video for the $599 Rode mixer than the Focusrite? Just saying. I know channels have to make money too but your Amazon commission is definitely better on $599 vs $120 something. I understand that fully from "your" point of view. BUT, UA-cam producers primary income SHOULD NOT be there sponsorships or commissions IMO! After all you are producers so your primary source should be music. Selling it, making it, etc. And then your UA-cam channel is for help new "beginners" learn about music producing and equipment they can afford. This is just my opinion that's all.
Listen, when you feature so prominently the mic boom arm in live ON AIR videos please lose the college radio station boom and get the beautiful Yellowtec m!ka Mic Arm in brushed aluminum and hidden internal XLR wiring and a cool red LED when On AIR or the cheaper and black alternative K&M 23860 BK boom which my radio station depended on for five year before upgrading to the Yellowtec m!ka.

I use the samson mba 28 inches arm and I'm glad i spent hours looking for a boom arm cause i love that boom arm

This gentlemen has something messed up with his settings. Proximity effect on this mic does not produce such hiss

@@axeldoom748 should a dynamic mic really be picking up a pc fan like that? Sounds like he’s blasting tf out of his gain then
Gotta love a guy that test a Mike and says “do you hear that ?” I go “No cos your background music drowned out whatever you were trying to show!”
Can you please tell me what app/prog you use for the pink arrows to point to certain details during this video?
Will the Rode procaster microphone work on a Scarlett vocaster?
Bruv, love your setup and I am buying this in 2024
Who the F*** Puts music over a microphone test
He did not start to test and music was for only 2min. You didint watch the whole video right? Shame..
Skip to 6:16 to hear it without processing, it actually sounds better btw as his processing is nasty

He is an audio expert. They do that. Especially when they are full of shit.
Can you mute yourself & how? I feel like that's such an elementary question, but my current mic has a touch mute on the mic itself.
Ive heard 2 people say you can kill people with this mic.. is this a common thing?
i love the gameranx thumbnail
is this fine with just a Rode AI-1 audio interface alone?
So how do you switch the switchable hi-pass filter??????????????????????????????

Will it work with the Scarlett solo out of the box? Will the gain be enough. I dont wanna spend 150bucks in a cloudlifter just yet

Rode procaster with processing on rode console sound very robotic, less warm than original. I can do better postprocessing with vst plugins.
Hi Awall, can I use GoXLR mixer with Procaster mic ? thank you in advance ! :)
yes. and you dont need ANY cloudlifter or preamp with a golxr due to its Midas preamps.
Thank you very much
You are welcome!
I couldn’t hear you at all due to background music.
I can sound like that without paying nearly $600
Your audio is gissing thru my headphones
My procaster cuts off parts of words such as "y" and "s" or "i" even with noise gate off
It shouldn't do that.
Try using it at a different angle , or closer?
This video is pretty terrible
