Observing this colored video of UVK first time in UA-cam, I feel to be present in his concert and notice his facial expression while playing . I am hearing him for last 10 years and always noted immaculate control of his instrument and a rare romantic feeling in his approach. Now, after seeing this video, my idea gets confirmed. In our teenage history books, I remember seeing a picture of Prithwiraj Chouhan on his horse and read about his carrying away the bride, Sanjukta on horseback, alone. UVK, with the concentration in his face and closed eyes and a faint smile in the angle of lips, denoting that he knows and controls the entire auditorium, suddenly blends with it. I realise here is a dashy, debonair lover of his sitar, he knows , loves and has full control over it's sound which allows him to do anything and everything and making us running behind the king's horse. I didn't have the fortune to listen this great, live. I think every listener should feel indebted to Mr Haidar Adina, Mr Rafat Said, Mr Subrata Roychowdhury and Mr Raju Ashokan to bring the King to our small huts.
For me he is the greatest sitar maestro. No one is close to his unpredictable variety, supremacy & flow of taans. Also to mention that the way he tames the tempo of a Raag is mind blowing.
Vilayat Khan had supreme technical virtuosity coupled with absolute romantic appeal which clearly sets him apart as the greatest sitarist of all times light years ahead of contemporary artists
Haidar Sahab: May be no word is sufficient to express our feeling of gratitude to you for preserving and sharing such treasures of Indian classical music. I am specially interested about, Ustad Vilayat Khan and Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee.
Sir i have also requested to post the first part of it in the vedeo u have posted just few days ago.i express my heart felt gratitude to u for complying our request.
Dear Sir, Thank you very much for the posting. Request you to post complete Video of Ustad Vilayat Khan's Shree with Ustad Akram Khan that you have posted earlier.
When I first saw this I had the same feeling, but now I really appreciate the person who has gone to this length to record this and now we all watch it and feel as if we were in the hall in bad seat. I thank him from my the bottom of heart every time I watch this. I was in attendance in this concert and brings back good memories. It is easy to criticize but if one is really a true fan every minute of is a treasure.
You misunderstood me entirely. Like you I am grateful for this rare recording, no matter if the video was not ideally done and recorded only surreptitiously. My abiding regret about such recordings is that Vilayat Khan Sahib and others from his family (including Raees Khan Sahib) did not take care to have their programs recorded by professional artists, and to insist that they have a copy of each of their audio programs at least at the end of the show. They were in a position to insist with organizers for such a condition. Instead, they often made strict rules that their programs were not to be recorded. As a result many organizers left it to chance recordings by someone in the audience who did this without permission. (And yes, we are lucky that this happened). Other large organizations, who have professionally done audio and video recordings, do not wish this family's rare recordings to be made publicly available, or are hoping they will make money one day from marketing them by producing audio or video CDs. In other cases, many wonderful recordings stayed with organizers for a long time, until they themselves have died, and the recordings are languishing with their families somewhere unnoticed or uncared for. With the advent of cheap video cameras many years ago, it would have been possible for great artists to have invested some money in acquiring professional video cameras and to insist that they will have someone from their followers record the performances for them. A few have taken my advice (whom I know personally) and now bring their own video cameras into the concert, or insist they should have copies of it at the end of their performances. I notice that you are in the process of digitizing the rare stuff you have. Please do not slow down or stop until you have done so. Music lovers and learners will remember you gratefully for a long time to come. Best wishes.

Kirat Ganguly I agree
Many thanks
Outstanding performance. But the teental gat is exactly the same one in Puriya Dhaneshri played by him in other performances.
Such a treasure to appear!
Haunting, no doubt--- the combination of the Raag and echo. But a magnificent performance

There was no need for the vocals by Hidayat khan.
what a shame that this performance and many others by the great Ustad were recorded only surreptitiously.
