@@raphaeltiziani7476 If you watched this video then the efficiency won’t matter. You’re not that good enough a rider for it to make a difference. If you were good enough then you’d be looking at higher spec group sets
This is a great review of a group set that is amazing value for wireless tech. Kudos to SRAM for being the first to bring the tech to the 3rd tier at a very affordable price
The efficiency concerns aren’t about how good or bad you are as a rider, rather that I think some over-inflate how important it really is
@@daveramsbottom well first i watch it because im interested in all cycling. Secondly I think I am good enough for an amateur (5wkg ish ftp) third. The slower you are the more important is every watt. Forth we a should enjoy cycling flr what it is and thats fine :)

The Rival eTap AXS patents had been discovered and a 2021 launch rumoured almost half a year ago. It's also of note that the Force eTap AXS was announced almost precisely 2 years ago, in early April 2019.

The wait is finally over! Exciting, indeed! I must say, the levers, though visually distinct from Force, look just as pretty. 266 grams vs 238 for Force eTap AXS and aluminium means trickier for use in the cold. The Force eTap AXS contact point adjustment doesn't appear to make a lot of difference from my experience so far.
The rear derailleur, at 343 grams, is ca. 18 grams heavier than the 325 gram Force eTap AXS counterpart.
The front derailleur (166 grams) is roughly about the same weight as the Force one.
The chain weight is virtually unchanged.
Having already built a Force eTap AXS rig and a Force eTap AXS / Eagle AXS XO1 mullet, I'm excited to build two more AXS bikes, including a titanium rig with a breakaway frame and a Rival eTap AXS or a Rival eTap AXS / Eagle AXS GX mullet. Adieu, Shimano…
One question: will the powermeter work with Force eTap AXS cranks?
I asked the question about the power meter working with a Force crankset and yes is the answer. You can mix and match all three groupsets although that's so common in the road bike market like it is in the mtb market
I haven't gone into depth on the weight front yet (will do) but you're only looking at a couple of hundred grams heavier than Force which is very impressive
@@davidarthur Thank you, David! That's tops! I think, the touring market would also greatly benefit from 4-piston flatmount calliper designs. Currently, the only available option is the Hope RX4 callipers, but these, beside costing more than the Sram Rival, Force and even slightly more than Red (depending on retailer) callipers, are very tricky to come by, require a full cable & hardware swap and thus more expenditure (and time investment in research). I'd also like to hope that Sram, Jagwire, Hope or some other party would manufacture affordable leak-free hydraulic line couplers for 1/3 the price of those currently available: 22bicycles.com/products/brake-break-hydraulic-disconnect

Just bought a Ridley Fenix with the Rival group. The test ride I had , before I made a final choice, was with the 105 Di2 and Rival. Same bike, same wheels. I was amazed how much faster the Rival changed from gears. Personally I also like the looks more from the Rival. It also seemed like the braking distance was a little bit shorter than the 105 group. The practical thing is absolutely the battery. The 105 needs to be recharged somewhere near an outlet. The Rival however has batteries than can be charged with a charging kit. Last but not least. If the battery of the rear-derailleur is empty, you may expect the front one is still working since that one will be used less. And the good news is: they are exchangeable! In that case you won't have a stuck gear and still able to shift. Thanks for the review!

This is how I see it. Buy a (mechanical/rim) Dura ace groupset..or for more money, buy a budget electronic groupset that weighs over 3 kilos. PLUS! if you wanted a disc brake option instead of rim, then the Ultegra R8020 groupset can be bought for even less (and is still considerably lighter than Rival AXS)

Guys this groupset is very heavy. Much heavier than a shimano 105 groupset from ages ago. Personally I don't think that electronic shifting worth both more money and significant more weight. Also it's not be tested yet to ensure the reliability. I would say just hold your horses.
Wow, SRAM bringing the fight over to Shimano! Good 1st contact review, liked the gearing graphics, had always been a bit sceptical about the SRAM 12sp gear range.

Cheap looking and heavy! But hopefully it pushes Shimano to do more with 105
for sure 105 going to get di2, probably releasing at the tour de france, but still 11 speed, dont know if it will have PowerMeter
@@bernardo9202 i don't think shimano have been working on 105 di2. They've said it bold face previously. This is the kick in their rear end that they needed to take it seriously.

10t small cogs on the cassettes can reduce weight in theory. In practice with this group, it hasn't seemed to made up much ground.
Back in the '90's, Shimano made mountain bike groups with "Microdrive" where XT and lower groups had smaller chainring bolt patterns (hence smaller and lighter chainrings) however XTR remained on 110/74 bcd.
I think we’ll start seeing bikes in the $3-4k range with Rival eTap instead of mechanical Ultegra. I think it’d be pretty hard to choose Ultergra over Rival eTap unless you’re a Shimano diehard or a weight weenie.
One does not have to be "Shimano diehard" to choose 1kg ligher bike with more reliable peloton proof drivetrain.

I have recently pre-ordered the SRAM Rival 1x Quarq Road Power Meter DUB WIDE Chainset for £322 still waiting for my Shimano Di2 Ultegra Groupset, hopefully should arrive by May 22 cannot wait. My only concern with SRAM groupsets compared to Shimano is that the material is not as strong and if the bike does hit the deck the SRAM rear mech will break meaning you need to replace it, whereas on the Shimano you will get scratches but it will still work...
This is great news on many fronts! I was hoping SRAM might consider facing their battery in the reverse direction on the front der since it can limit tire width.
Amazing! Also plenty of options for mullet upgrade kits are popping up in shops, mixing GX eagle derailleur and Rival brifters for a decent price, love it. Only downside is XDR, which would cost me 100€ extra for the freehub conversion on my Bontragers. So tempting to finally get a powermeter, even though my BB and Rival 1 crankset are the only things I could actually continue using.
I have Sram Force(48/35- 10/33) on my Tarmac and I stay in the big ring more. I like Sram because of all the haters and or know-it-alls.
I think it’s fair to say that a factor in choosing groupset is cost of replacement parts. This is an area where Sram has fallen down, with its other electronic groupsets, in the past. How does this compare to Ultegra Di2 new parts, therefore?

This is very interesting, especially the Power Meter option with a crank arm down to 160mm.
I wonder how interchangeable the components are? I'm running bog-standard 105, but I could see this as an upgarde.
Could we use a Rival shifter with 105 disc brake calipers (as I don't have a newer flat-mount frame) or even Force shifters with the Rival derailleurs so you can add blips up front, on say Tri bars?
You can mix and match eTap components but not with Shimano in the way you describe. There’s no post mount option for Rival but there is in the higher end groupsets

Looks good, and as you say, it will be interesting to see which bikes we see it on; and what price range we see it on - I reckon between £3250 - £4000 would be a decent price.
However, having just looked at a Domane SL with Rival AXS, they've priced it at £4200......No thanks..

I have to give to SRAM they make smart moves. Good gearing ratios & good integration of their components. Now they intro'd wireless on their mid-range. Shimano's only answer can be to intro Di2 to 105 groupo and to add 12 speed to all their 2x systems & up to a 13 speed on their 1x with integrated dropper option. Even if they stay with wired derailleurs its their only way to keep up with SRAM.
Its like watch MCU movies -vs- DC movies Shimano makes good stuff but is slow & not consistent to market.
Everyone worried about inflation but this groupset is deflationary and very good it seems ! They're expecting full bikes to go for under $3000

I have Rival (mechanical) on my cyclocross bike, the brakes are rubbish, Shimano brakes much better and in cyclocross brakes are important.

Will going wireless with dura ace be enough from shimano? I don't think so. If shimano doesn't release wireless dura ace, ultegra and 105 they're now gonna screwed.
The only problem is that there is no rim version... So hard no. Hopefully, 105 version will have rim brake...
If shimano can't do a 105 di2 for less then they are done for. The rival etap is just so well priced imo and much easier to install.

Yes you'll be able to buy the groupset to upgrade existing bikes
Quick question... umm... How likely is it to get your eTap deraillure stolen? While the Rival eTap is the cheapest of electronic groupsets, it is still quite valuable, especially with the wireless features making it very easy to sell on its own. It's possible to lock up a bike, but it isn't possible to secure the deraillure in any ways. A thief trying to uninstall a deraillure will also make way less noise than cutting open a lock with an angle grinder.
They're going to have to break the chain so not a super quick easy job really, and I'd be more concerned about them stealing the whole bike as that's more valuable than just the rear mech

That Pressfit BB 86 is selling like crazy. One web-shop, from 24 stock went to 3 stock within 5 days. Sold out everywhere else.
What is the reason SRAM makes Crackset+powermeter with AAA battery?. How long it will last?. Now people needs 3 type batteries for their SRAM etap.
Easily replaced I guess? The shifter batteries last like a year, the power meter is 400 hrs and the mech batteries about 60 hours so it’s not really that bad. I charge my iPhone/wahoo/lights a lot more!
U can get ultegra full di2 DISC groupset so crankset and capliers for €1300 obviously it's sale price.... But why you'd pay the same price for 2by without the powermeter for something that's basically 105 level is beyond me...

Very interesting...do the new 12-speed chains work on 11-speed chainrings? I'd consider upgrading to this groupset but would much prefer to keep my Red 22 chainset that I have converted to 1x using a SRAM CX1 chainring...

They should still make 11 speed eTap groupsets. They're kinda losing me as a customer because of the 100% shift to 12 speed... I'm cool with 12 speed, I just was a 11 speed option.. Atleast for a while longer. Would be killer if you could tell your eTap AXS you want it to function as a 11 speed or 12 speed though an app or setting.
1 question, you/they say it is Disc only... what if you mix/match a bit.. i want it for Triathlon bike with barend shift... then i can use rims/cable right ? i DO NOT want disc brakes :D

I just hope you can find this at an actual reasonable price. Shimano have a habit of having similar RRP products and then retailing pricing at least in Europe being 30 less. Obviously Shimano are much bigger so can offer big discounts or people cheat via OEM channels. I was a little bit blown away on SRAM pricing on cassettes.
WIth Power meter comes close to 1000 euros, it is really cheap i think
the cassett is a bit expensive, but you can always go for another brand

If I fit a power meter to my SRAM rival crank will there be an imbalance between left and right cranks? or is it same materials?
no reason why there should be any sort of balance issue
for only $400 AUD more, I could have Rival Electronic over Ultegra Mechanical. I would certainly spend the extra $ and purchase Rival. For me the extra benefits of xrange and digital out weigh the small weight penalty. If I am being honest my real wight penalty is around my waist

Hey, I recently bought a pair of zipp 303s wheels with a 11spd sram/shimano body. Do I need to change the body to an XDR body if I wanna use the SRAM XG cassette which comes with the groupset?
Or which 11speed cassette is compatible with this groupset?
I'm afraid you need the SRAM XDR freehub to run this cassette, which as it's a 12-speed groupset there's no 11-speed cassette you can use instead

Rival uses the newer DUB spindle so don’t think so I’m afraid
is 10-36 the max range? Just wondering about Gravel bikes some might feel that range isn't wide enough.
Yes and SRAM will point you at their Eagle 10-50/10-52t setup for even more range, which with the new GX is more affordable

Why do electronic derailleurs have limit screws if they’re electronic?
Because they still move a set amount if the indexing is done poorly. Into the spokes we go.

So £700more expensive and 733g heavier than Shimano 105 so I’m not sure about progress, unless you like Gadgetry stuff of course🤔
I want a lighter bike not heavier. Just a quick few calculations tells me that if I swapped my 2020 Roubaix Ultergra mechanical shifting bike for a new rival equipped one on the list it will be 1046g heavier and about £700 more. Mmmmm.👎

People open your eyes. Im sure in 4-5 years all cycling brands are gonna start droping weight of all their products and say its a new wave and its revolution. Weight matter! dont buy this heavy ass gearing, most of the pros still prefer rim brakes cause its lighter and if you wanna be fast DONT BRAKE. Im using mechanical ultegra r8000 with all the cables out (no aero!) on my dogma f8 and even on straight im droping all my friends on heavy electric pigs.

I very much doubt it. Even though SRAM won't comment, I suspect they're all about wireless and as Rival shows, making it more affordable to more cyclists. I'd be surprised if they come out with a new mechanical groupset as much as I'd personally love to see it

SRAM: Market demands 105 Di2 for over a decade, so give them AXS Rival, our weak selling Tier3! Kicking Shimanos ass! Been convinced by e-tap I will stay to SRAM and even a die hard Campy fanboy switched! Will also switch my MTB to GX AXS. Shimano is very good but is loosing track in innovations. If you build yourself a bike with Di2 and one with AXS you know what I mean!

Nobody called it a budget groupset, but it's a lot more affordable and that is the key takeaway. Of course everybody has a different opinion on what constitutes affordable but set against its other groupsets, it's appropriate
