I loved this episode!
I have northern bayberries too and I just absolutely adore them so much. Love visiting nurseries that have a native section. SUCH A GREAT native plant haul Jenny!!!
Yeah we went shopping 🛒🛍️. Love it. Thank you for sharing 😊
Thanks for the tip about Lauren's Garden Service. I've been trying to incorporate more native plants and live in Bethesda, Maryland so happy to know there is a local source. I have several of the eastern red cedars (some are volunteers). They are totally maintenance free, the deer leave them alone and they get lovely blue berries.
We planted an Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry about that size 3 years ago. It is thriving in SE PA zone 7. While I’ve never used the berries, I love the Spring flowers and the Fall colors. The birds are happy, too.
If you haven’t checked him out yet, David at Overdevest just had a video on dealing with deer.
So happy to have come across your channel. I've been wanting to find a home gardener that is working with native plants. I appreciate that you are looking to natives first.
Cedar waxwings come to my serviceberry when berries are ripe.
Watching you unload the car brought up images of clowns exiting a tiny car. 😆
I bought a 'Balmy Rose' monarda at the orange big box store a month ago. Details weren't robust. I was hoping it grew a bit taller, but I'm pleased it won't run rampant in my garden. The magenta/violet color is a perfect hit among my lavender to purple plants I have surrounding it. I keep deadheading it and hope to see a flush of blooms as you have.
I like the multi-benefits serviceberry tree has. I think I've heard some anachdotal negatives about it and that kept me from adding one to my garden. I look forward to seeing how it does in your garden.
Jenny, promise me you won’t let those plants sit in your driveway all winter long. 😂
Lovely collection Jenny 🍃🌸🍃
Autumn brilliance- a favorite!! Stunning. Multi season tree ❤
I planted an Autumn Brilliance service berry last August and it’s doing great! Zone 6A central Ohio.
Good to see you again and learn so much. Always fun! Enjoy your videos and your design and planting ideas. 🌷
Oh I can see how you had to get so much 😂nice selection
I’ve been looking for local nurseries - I’m excited to check out Lauren’s.
Little red head is one of my favorite plants, I founded it two years ago at HomeDepot and made the mistake of not buying at least three; because I didn’t really ln😮what it was. But, it has did so well in my shade garden, great fully it’s now big enough to divide.
Thank you Jenny. Good luck! 🌺💚🙃
We have increasingly been leaning on native plants for tougher spots because they are a lot more adaptable. But it is really important to go to the nursery and see which ones the pollinators actually like - far too many on the shelves are of zero interest to them in my experience NB Many bee balms with a compact habit bloom for shorter periods of time. We ultimately went with a middle ground - Purple Rooster
Nice haul. Really like the first tree, starts with flowers and ends up red. I have several Butterfly bushes, this summer I added two Dark Night, so pretty. Some leaves here in Michigan are already turning color. Don't know where the Summer went. Thank you.
🌳🪴GOING TO BE BEAUTIFUL ‼️🪴🌳
🇩🇪 Hallo from the northern part of Germany. Jenny, I love your informative videos and your super friendly way of presenting them! Greetings from my garden and the sixth week of rain nearly every day.
Think a hedge of hydrangeas would be beautiful along the edge of your property and neighbor’s property
I can't wait to see the sumac when it is established. I also want to see your serviceberry in bloom. I don't have room to plant these, so I,'ll be watching for yours!
I love plant hauls. Didn't you buy a deer deterrent? How did that work? Thank you for sharing your garden knowledge!
Not yet!
Hi Jenny🌺 .What abeautiful group of plants that you bought . I love the changing color of the leaves .Jenny if you watch Stef ( Hooked and Rooted ) how she put wireless deer fence , deer spike post repellent deer training seystem and this way you can grow any plants . Have afantastic day .🌻🌺🌻
Do you have any apple or crabapple trees? Is cedar (juniper)-apple rust an issue in your area? I have heard that Autumn Brilliance is more resistant than the native but wonder if it still requires the spray program (ie dormant oil in winter, microbial bioprotectant during growing season, leaf cleanup). I am this close to taking our native serviceberries out just because of the maintenance…. Leaf spot is becoming a real issue here in New England, particularly in years like this one that are very humid and very wet….
I had a service berry (same cultivar Autumn Brilliance) and was GUTTED when I had to take it out. My neighbor has 3 eastern red cedars and it just decimated my service berry with apple cedar rust.
@@GardeningSpirit Thank you for sharing! My neighbor had their junipers taken out. But the leaf spot remains a issue - and there is just not a lot of great options to manage that organically.
@@emmalavenham Ur welcome, and yes I can understand completely. it is so so disheartening. I just couldn't and didn't want to keep spraying, etc. There are not a lot of options you are right.😞
How is your yard after tjr crazy storm? We lost some trees. 😔
No damage here thankfully. Sorry to hear about your trees!
