    Would love to see a video on proper technique for deadlifts and RDLs. I seem to keep straining my back on these even when I *think* I'm doing everything right.

      Second the Romanian deadlifts!

    • @derekrichards4186

      Proper scapula retraction during descent is important. You may also be going too heavy if your lower back seems to be taking over too often! Good Luck!

      So I'm going try to help you folkes. I'm confident I'm wasting my time and I think you will perceive my gift as an effrontery, but what's your goal? Do YOU want to squat, deadlift, romanian deadlift, or be fit? Are you pursuing mastery of a movement? A look? What's YOUR goal? Also if you're working w/ a personal trainer and you can't answer my question fire them. I see pics. None strike me as hardcore powerlifters. I read comments, and I just want to put a bullet in my head. This shit is stupid, but not your fault. You didn't know better. Want results?

      She has done at least one video on deadlift form, with both the regular and sumo variations.

    • @navinbabji
      @navinbabji 2 роки тому +1

      I would suggest that you do rack deadlifts, that way you won't hurt your back and still be able to do deadlifts. Then slowly and steadily start doing regular deadlift. Also do some lower back exercises to strengthen it, so you have less chance of injury. 👍👍👍

    Very good video. I’m a former AU power lifter. Retired now but I still squad. Your information and coaching is absolutely spot on. It’s rare that you see that on UA-cam. Really like your channel best of luck.

    This was the best squatting video I've seen on UA-cam! As someone looking to get into lifting, it's really helpful to be walked through the ENTIRE set up and not just lift. Would love to these 5 minvideos for the 5 main lifts!

    Love your videos! The one thing that I struggled with squats was continuously feeling pain in my lower back, until a PT at my gym mentioned squatting (without weight) against a wall and practising my posture that way. I do this every time I feel unsure to remind my body what it should feel like to squat.

    I'm a recent follower/newbie lifter and I've found your videos really helpful. I've been working my way up to barbell squats.. been doing dumbell drop squats and goblet squats. Think I'm at the point where I'm gonna transition over to the bar but start out with box squats. Thanks again for the form tips!

    honestly the grip distance on the squat is the most underrated and underdiscussed mobility tool/variable in the barbell back-squat, imo.

  • @keysersoze5920
    @keysersoze5920 2 роки тому +1

    Good tutorial. Just one thing: to unrack and squat with confidence, pinch your shoulder blades together so you create that “shelf” upon which the barbell will rest AND keep the shoulder blades pinched together throughout the entire squat movement.

    Nice short and to the point. I have issues getting low enough because of my knees(curse you old age). Just recently found out about dead lifting without shoes and found out how much nicer it was then my old gym shoes I used to wear. Will try this squatting next time.

    Thank you for your advice. I love squats and am trying to develop strength and muscle endurance, primarily for (non-competitive) cycling. I'm going to look through your backlog to see if you've touched on the various strength approaches, e.g., heavy weight with fewer reps vs. lighter weight and more reps. I wonder if that couldn't fit into a Friday five.

    I liked how you included the width modulation in stance/grip. From my experience, it does seem to be a hip rotation correlation leading to deep squat capability. I think it might sacrifice some upper body stability as you have to move the hands in closer, but I think that's what allows the hips to be able to learn to move more freely on the bottom end of the back. From there I've just had to focus gradually on pulling with my neck to get more stability at the top end, and oddly enough it's a bilateral endeavor.

  • @domepiece11
    @domepiece11 2 роки тому

    1) I disagree on the eccentric. I think the eccentric (descent) should be very intentionally controlled, like a 1 second tempo. First, this increases time under tension, which relates to strength and hypertrophy. Second, it decreases the chances of injury. Descending too quickly can lead to laxity and excess lumbar flexion. Also, allowing your body to be controlled by the weight and gravity can cause your body to exceed its normal mobility limits, leading to muscle, joint, or connective tissue strain. 2) Breathing! Breath in, hold, squat, exhale, repeat. This will help maintain core rigidity, which helps protect the lumbar spine. Everything else, I agree. A video on breathing might be good. I really like the analogy in the book Rebuilding Milo of a soda can’s strength unopened versus empty to describe intra-abdominal pressure.
