I realize this video's a bit old, but thank you! I've had my Impulse 61 for around 2 years now but a few months ago I noticed my usb cable ripped out the little block in the type b connector. The piece was still jammed in my cable so I could still connect it, but the other day the pins inside started breaking so now I'm screwed. Or at least I though I was. Definitely going to try this. Hadn't even thought of sodering a new type b on it! Thanks again!

Its not 11 minutes to fix it but thanks for feedback. The intro explains the way to identify the problem in the port and the last couple of minutes is jamming out to a beat.I made sure to walk through the process in as much detail as I could for those who never opened a MIDI controller.
Very helpful, except you left out the money shot. You put down the camera, replaced the usb port without showing us, then put it back together. I missed exactly how you removed/replaced. Thanks for what you did provide, but I'm going to look for the exact replacement info.

I have the same issue with my maudio ozone midi 25. no midi but powering on and LCD working.. but my DAW is not recognizing it even with proper drivers installed. but how did u figure out that the problem is with only the USB port ?
Hi Sam my Novation impluse 49key pitch is always out of tune it doesn't flow with the standard chord of the instruments that am using it shifts it's tune often when I touch the keys especially when using it with DAW. Can you help me.
How did you install the new one? You just heated it up to soften the solder on the board, removed the usb b, and then placed a new one in and let it harden again? Do you need a soldering iron or anything? Please let me know I will be doing this to mine shortly I am having the same exact issue.
Hey sam! I know this video is from 2.5 years ago but I got a question? was the original issue that all the lights would come on and it was recognized by the computer but no midi data was transmitted. I just moved and my controller started doing this and i'm wondering if a new USB port will fix it... thank you and look forward to hearing back. Archie
Thanks for the video. I have a maudio ozone midi keyboard which has a built in audio interface as well. The keyboard powers up fine (needs external power 9v) . I connect it to pc through uSB and the audio interface works fine through the same USB port on the keyboard but it doesn't seem to send any midi data to pc. MIDI ox doesn;t recognize this device when connected to pc. what could be wrong. pls help , its heart breaking to see this beautiful device collect dust (i'm interested only in using it as midi controller).
Helloni went through all the steps but there is no power what so ever. Is there anything else you did to trigger the usb to power and turn light up the display ??? :( helpppp

(first one, track 1 slider) is bugged. Instead of going from 0 to 127 it goes from 20 to 105 or so. And it continuesly sends midi data of the closest volume. Fe: it the volume is set on 80, it alternates between 80 and 81 really fast. Got any tip what I can try? Thanks,

dude i have this same issue except its with a 61 key. fuck idk even kno how to use it but im going to find that usb type 2 port and then do what u just did. once i do that i hope it fixes it. the usb lookls just like the beginning of the video its missing the middle plastic bullshit ya kno. well i hopw this works did u get that usb port somewhere special or where did u get it from
worth mentioning, yes you have to get all the silver screw, even the ones buried deep in the centr,, ugh what a pain in the arse. nice to see the inards of your midi controler though

hey thats a flaw that novation has issues with Ive had 2 of the impulse and both keyboards have had the same usb port problem the inner part breaks off smh

the impulse is a great keyboard. it built better than any of their other synths and isnt as fragile like the Remote Zero series with the LCD screen

novation has an issue with the usb port being faulty i bought 2 and both of them had the same issues where do i get the usb port part...thx
@Antman0216 Yes. TYPE B (4 pins). You will see the same USB port on most MIDI keyboard controllers. Best of luck to you.

As long as the boards are supported then I use needle knose plyers so you grab only the plastic

Any advice on fixing a fader on it? I'm afraid of breaking more parts by taking mine apart. I have a 49
