- Are you looking for a way to copy a SharePoint page from one site to another? In this video, I will discuss how to do it quickly and easily.
Copy page to a different site
You can use Power Automate to copy a SharePoint page to another site in a few simple steps.
First, open the Power Automate from www.office.com
Next, click on the "Create" button and select the "Create flow from blank" option.
In the trigger section, select the "Mobile push button" trigger.
Then, configure the SharePoint site and list for the trigger.
In the "Actions" section, click on the "+ New" button and select the SharePoint "Copy file" action.
Next, configure the SharePoint site and list for the action.
Finally, click on the "Save" button to save the flow.
Once the flow is saved, it will be triggered when you click on the test button at the top right corner of your Power Automate workflow.
The page will then be copied over to the destination SharePoint site.
Copy page on the same site
If you want to copy a page within its own site, you will not need to use Power Automate.
Simply, open the SharePoint page you'd like to copy in your browser. On the page, you'll see a page ribbon at the top. Click the "Page" tab and then the "Copy" button located in the ribbon.
Next, a pop-up window will appear that asks you to specify the destination folder where you'd like to copy the page. Select a folder and click the "Copy" button.
That's it! You've successfully copied a SharePoint page.

It's 2am and after reviewing SO many "simple" tutorials, this was the ONLY one that worked and I got it done in 5 minutes! Thank you!!!!!
Respect for pulling an all nighter to get it sorted 👌 glad to hear it helped you 👍
Spent many hours trying to figure out how to do this. Finally a simple method!
You are welcome 🙏
We recently redesigned our homepage for our clients and was looking for a way to update all the client sites with the new design. Love this simple way to do this! I was looking at many hours to manually update all of them, but this has made this task easy and quick, can probably to them all in a matter of minutes. Thanks!!!
Glad it helped 👍
I need to basically create a replica of my site in another language (and other small adaptations)... I've been looking nonstop for a way to not have to recreate all pages from zero... This SAVED me!! Thank you!
You are more than welcome 🙏
Very useful instruction described in a clear manner. Thank you Dougie!

It works like a charm! AWESOME!
Just one question: is there any way to use this same function, but with more pages? Or I have to recreate the flow for each page I want to copy?
You could build something to cycle through a library I guess 👍
Keep it up, Dougie! Your videos are coming out at a great time. I do have a suggestion though. Could you segment your videos to make them easier to watch important parts over again? Also let us see you more in the videos stud. Thanks again!!!
Thanks for the great feedback Jake!
I am starting to try and segment my videos at logical points with title slides to break them up to make it easier to find specific sections!
Also, I purposefully try and keep my videos short and sweet with limited distractions, like my pretty face 😉 just kidding!
But I believe most people just want information delivered quickly without the waffle wrapped around it, so that is what I try to deliver 👌
WOW, this worked perfectly and so simple to follow. I was close to just rebuilding a page from scratch.
So glad it helped 👍
Thank you, this helped me out a bunch. One question though, is there a way to retain the author or last modified by user when using this method?
Not easily no, the version history is quite difficult to change so that it is obvious who changed the page last.
I’ve only ever seen this automated in the way you describe by making a call to the SharePoint API via a HTTP action 👍
Just saved me hours of work. Thank you!!
You are more than welcome 🙏
Finally. The only answer i've found that works. GJ

Hello! Great video. I have two different sites that need to be integrated as one and placed under the main site. Can I just copy the information from the one site, or in this process, I may run out of space? Thank you
So depends on the type of data you wish to move and how much.
This video just shows how to move pages, but you likely need to move data and documents as well.

Hi Dougie, I made it. Thanks! But this will be just a template, right? My work will not affect the original site page disposition, is that correct?
Hi Leila, that is correct! You are just copying a page into a new site. The content of the site such as other pages and documents will remain their 😀
Exactly what I was searching for... Thanks a lot 🥰

This was a brilliant video thank you so much. I just have an issue that the home page once in place is not editable - I just get error messages. I wonder if this is to do with the hub setting you mentioned right at the end? I have tried attaching the site to all the available hubs, but none of them would let me edit it. I've probably started breaking things at this point... Anyway this is closer than I have ever got to making this all work, so thank you. Sooo so close....
What does the error message say?
@Dougie_Wood At first it allowed an edit on the new site, but when I tried to pubish, it said there had been an error and it was unable to publish, after that, when I clicked edit, it just said, error, unable to edit. I don't have admin access, and our sites are set up for Teams centrally (we're a university so there's a site/Team for every module all set up possibly automatically). I'm trying to find out from my IT admin what Hub it should be attached to at the end. I'm hopeful they can figure out what's gone on. After experimenting with changing what hub it's attached to, I've now made the module disappear from Sharepoint completely... old module so no harm done, I don't think. I probably shouldn't play with these thinsg when I'm don't know what Im doing... Hopefully between your video and my IT admin we might be a step closer to cracking the problem! (it might be I can get them to do the powerautomator transfer rather than me do it... we'll see.) anyway thanks again for the vid.

Thanks for this, man, you've saved me HOURS! 🙂

Dougie, very helpful. I followed everything you did and I got all green check marks. Still the cite did not copy, what could be the issue? Thanks
Are you trying to copy a homepage to a different site?
It did not work for me either. Do I have to be the owner of both sites? The site I am trying to copy has my admin account as owner and the site I created as destination, the owner is a regular account in the same tenant. @@Dougie_Wood
Will this bring all pages content ie: document libraries along with any metadata(columns) set up within those? can you also apply this to just a document library?
Hey, no this is about just moving a single page. For example if you wanted to copy the layout of one page to another.
You’d be better looking at the SharePoint migration tool 👍

Awesome work, quick question from a beginner though: this worked great for bringing over the site page itself. But when I tried to do this exact same thing for anything else I need like lists or libraries (using the "copy folder" instead of "file") into the new site's folders, it now it gives me an error: "Source or Destination likely invalid. Check that the file exists and has an SPListItem ID..." long string of numbers. Is this an unrelated problem on my end or can these tools not accomplish this so easily?
This method is just for moving a singular file such as a homepage, you would need a tool to move an entire library of files or list etc
Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Thanks for the content! It´s to the point and very useful for me for daily practical work with and management of SharePoint content and sites. Inspirational! 🙂
Thank you Daniel for your kind words! It means a lot 😃
This is great! Thank you!
Is there any way to copy site configurations for targeted criteria like colors and fonts?
Not with this method but you could use a SharePoint migration tool
Great video my friend. Is it possible to use a different type of font on SharePoint such as Arial?
Hey Igor! Unfortunately, there is no easy native way to change this out of the box at the moment for modern sites. 👎
Thank you so much for such a user-friendly solution!
You are welcome 🙏
hey there, thats is awesome thanks.. what if I want to copy it to my clients sharepoint, from my own? is that possible.
@@TYNEPUNK that would require a much more complicated workflow that would extract the page layout as JSON. Advanced skills would be required for that.
@@Dougie_Wood so I guess if I built it in their account it would be easier than doing it in my own and moving it over.
Saved me a lot of time. Thanks

Very useful, but in my target site the page cannot be edited and republished anymore (after being "pasted" with this flow).
Are you experiencing the same issue?
What message are you getting when trying to edit?
@@Dougie_Wood I can actually edit the page I've just "pasted", but then, when trying to to publish it through Republish button, I get the following error:
"Could not publish your page. We're sorry, we encountered an unexpected error. Please refresh the page and try again.".
From this point I can only Publish the page from Site Contents -> Site Pages, and the issue persist for this "pasted" page.
PS: the source and target pages I'm testing are parts of different Teams Sites
Thanks a lot
@@Stefanolupo33 hey stefano, sounds like the original file has been corrupt somehow.
Just to double check, are you trying to copy a modern page to a classic site or vice versa?

Very useful information - thanks!
You are welcome 🙏
Thank you for the video! I followed it step-by-step and Power Automate says the flow was successfully completed. However, the page wasn't copied! I am trying to copy a page that is a "post". A post is an aspx file, the same as a home page. Does it matter? Any clue?
Have you checked in the page library to see if the page has actually created in the location you expect it to be in?
Cog > site contents > pages > find newly created page.
If it is not there then you need to check the logic of your power automate, are you overriding a page or creating it on a site you were not expecting etc.
If it is there but your problem is that it is not showing in the news web part on the site it was copied to that is a separate problem.
The problem there is that the page needs to be promoted from just a page to being a news article.
You can do this manually by opening the page and then clicking on the “promote” button at the top left of the page.
Then on the pop out select an option that says something like “post as news page”. Something along those lines.
Hopefully that helps 👍

@@Dougie_Wood I thought I would let you know, though, that I just tried to run this process, and there is no option under "Triggers" for "Manually Trigger a Flow." Hi, I tried to copy one site to another but the source site is not visible to select when I try to run the trigger copy file. only the target site is visible in their selection.
Have you got access to the source site? Try navigating to it and make sure you do not get an access denied message.
Also, if it still does not appear in the drop down then copy the URL of the source site, in the flow under the list of sites you see click “enter manually” (or worded similar) and then paste in your URL.
Make sure the URL just had the site name and nothing after.
So if your site is called Test the url will end with sites/Test

It sounds like the page in the site you are copying into that has the same name is checked out and cannot be edited by the workflow.
Ensure that page is checked in. If that still doesn’t work, try changing the name of the page on the destination site.

This method will indeed copy a page from one site to another, but an important caveat it does not copy supporting files such as images that have been placed on the page - those will continue to reference the original site. This is not a suitable approach if you intend to create a new SharePoint site to replace an old one, as you will find your pages will have broken images and links once the old site gets deleted.
Thanks

Takes plenty of time to discuss the "why" but takes a while to get to the "how". The example still goes into the "why" all the way to nearly the half way point of the video (even the example focuses on the "why"). The actual "how" sort of starts at 3 minutes in (03:20) (don't care "why" just care "how" 😉)
Not the author's fault but this is dramatically overcomplicated by Microsoft. Why can't you just go to the page, to the action menu, then select "Move" and select the new place, then "OK". 🙄
Hey, yes it’s true but I like to make sure that viewers understand they are in the right place (video) for their problem before showing the solution. Nothing worse than being half way through a fix (how) just to realise it’s a fix for a different problem 👍
The fact that this video even has to exist is more evidence that SharePoint is a dumpster fire of bizarre design choices.

I hope the UX designer at Sharepoint gets wet sleeves the next time he washes his hands! A simple task like COPY PAGE should not be so complicated that you have to watch tutorial videos.
🧍♂️🚰 😂😂😂 I’m using that expression in the future.
For now their UX is keeping me in business helping others understand it.

Cool info but damn sharepoint frigging sucks!
Incorrect, SharePoint rules! 😉
Is there something you are having a particular issue with Jamie I could try and give you some advice on?
Thanks! It had more to do with just copying a farely basic subsite. I'm new to sharepoint. I eventually ended up making a new subsite from scratch. It doesn't quite exactly like the other pages but my manager says it's good enough. I'm just being very OCD about it.
It got less frustrating after tinkering with it for a few hours and I learned how the file structure is laid out.
Any literature you recommend for a super noob?
@@conecrazy The Microsoft support web pages are always useful.

@@Dougie_Wooddo I have to have Admin Role capacity to do this?
@@audreyafe-tuufuli2015 admin of the sites
@@Dougie_Woodperhaps I am not asking the right question. So my department has 5 divisions; I'd like to create exactly what you have in the video. A main page with options in the navigation a the top for staff to go from one division to the other. I create one site and want to maintain consistency and lay out thru out the 5 division sites. Do I need to have "Admin Role" feature or access to Admin Center to do this?
