Haven't made mince pies since I was a kids, making them with my mum. Seriously miss that time with my mum, she was old fashioned and made everything from scratch and I was lucky enough that she took the time in teaching me how to cook and bake!
I live in the US, and just got back from a trip to London....these pies were everywhere! I picked up a box from Sainsbury's and immediately fell in love. I have eaten so many of them from many places and brought a bunch home. I can't WAIT to try to make these, this recipe looks great, thanks!
Update I am going to make some more of these mince pies today. Once cooled the last batch were delicious, and all went in a flash. I haven't yet found the ingredients to make my own mince but will keep looking. I left mine to cook until the pastry was crispy and they came out just right. This was my very first attempt at pastry so thanks for the video easy to follow and led to success.
Just made my first mince pies directly following your recipe. They have turned out just like your video and taste lovely. Even my wife gave me the highest accolade. Thank you, I will me making more. Thank you so much.
I’ve used this recipe every year at Christmas and they come out amazing every time! I tried a different recipe once and it was terrible, you are the goat of mince pies
I just made mince pies for the first time this year, and I used your pastry recipe with some homemade mincemeat. Wow, they are so delicious!! Even though I’d never had them before, they tasted very nostalgic. And they smell wonderful!!
The best Mince pie i ever had was one when I was a child celebrating Christmas with my family. Back then you could get them from any US supermarket. These days you do not see too many of them any more, just like English and German Tweeds..
I’ve never tried to make my own mince pies but this recipe I’m definitely going to do. I looked at some other recipes on UA-cam but this seems the best . I’ll let you know how they turned out. Thanks Steve.
For years my mother-in-law thought I didn't like mince pies. I'd have one, to be polite, and smother it in cream or brandy butter. I kept telling her it was the pastry I didn't like. My mother and I had a wonderful arrangement regarding pies...I ate the filling and she ate the pastry. Well, she only got the crusty bits of pumpkin pie...I did like the part under the filling... I digress. When MIL could no longer make the mince pies, I took over and happened on a sweet shortcrust pasty. Tried several, but the family rejected them. THIS recipe was an absolute winner last year. Steve, I tell you, I never made such fantastic mince pies. Teamed with MIL's family recipe for the filling, they were superb! About to make them again and came to double check the lid technique...which BTW finally gives me lids that stat doesn't separate. Thanks so much for the recipe and Merry Christmas.
Hi Steve, today is the second time I‘ve made your mince pies, very successful thank you. As I live in Germany its sometimes hard to get our Christmas treats. So it goes without saying I‘ll be making them for Christmas again. Keep up the good work. Thanks again. Bill
Made these yesterday and they are the best i’ve ever made, the pastry is spot on, followed the measurements exactly and the oven temp and timing and they where perfect, they are going down a storm so will have to make more in a few days, thanks so much for posting👍
I have a convection oven. Very accurate. First batch were undercooked. I suggest 165 degrees 25 minutes after which they were just starting to go golden and were perfect. Dough recipe is great.
I remember having mincemeat pies when I was very young. I haven't had it in about 30 years but I'm going to try your recipes for making mincemeat and the little pies too. Going to try both the sweet and savory types and see which one's better. Thank you so much for these recipes! I've been wanting to try some traditional deserts and foods for a while now and these are going to be a great start! Even though it's hard as heck to find the ingredients here. I had to look everywhere for mixed fruits and figs and suet. Finally went to a butcher for the suet and going to make my own.
Mom always made a large 9" mince pie for the holiday season. We topped it with whipped cream. I never made the mince myself, and neither did she. I was heading for the shops to buy some, and saw (from several youtube videos of various types... I am avoiding suet) and realized it can't be that hard to make. So, this year I did it... with what I had and could get ahold of. Here in Denmark we grow on our black currents, but you can't find them dried. I will dry some black and red currents for my future mince meats. Also, my hubby asked for port instead of brandy. That wasnt hard to substitute either... (and it's made from black currents). Using dried apricots, dates, raisins, sultanas, pink lady apples, oranges, lemons and almonds, spices and some brown sugar. I had not expected it to grow so much, but we will put it to good use! Enjoy the Christmas season. Thanks for posting. Now I have to be patient and make myself wait before using it!
Just baking some now,I first thought there was too much butter.but it's just right. With the left over pastry I made some old fashioned Apricot tarts . Fingers crossed 🤞 they all come out right🤣..
I usually like home made everything but I did have the Walker's Shortbread Glenfiddich Whiskey Mincemeat Tarts and they were amazing - I am going to try making both of your versions though, they look delish!
Easy to make Shortbread that tastes as good if not better that Walkers, then real whiskey, easy too, So I would say if you made your own version they would be outstanding.. Good luck and let us know.. Steve
My mother loved pecan. She thought it was too sweet. She really enjoyed pumpkin pie however it needed something. In 1952 she created the Pumpkin Pecan Pie. She would make her Pecan Pie and add 1 1/2 cups of pumpkin, one extra egg and 1/2 cup of half and half. You see a lot of pumpkin Pecan pies but back in 1952 she was the first. A young mother born and raised on an Idaho farm with 9 brothers and sisters. I miss her everyday.
My most favourite mince pie is made by my favourite baker. Mr Kipling. He's made many of my favourites such as Apple pies, Bakewell slices. I think I may well try This! Thanks Steve 👍👌
I'm going to make these little pies this year. I use my Great Grandmother's mincemeat recipe. The only thing I changed was the suet. I leave that out. It is the best.
Never made them before, but certainly going to try the egg yolk version, I mean with sugar in the pastry. But will the sugar on the top as hate biting into just sugar. Thank you for the receipt.
Hi what a comprehensive lesson. I always use lard/ butter when I make mince pies. I find that they are shorter that way. I am going to have a go at yours tho. Thanks for sharing.
I think my Mince Pies are the best lol. Been making them for years, but always had the problem I could not make them big enough. But thanks to your recipe for shortcrust pasty managed to make them bigger. Gave a few to friends and they loved them!
I’ve never made or tried one but I know what they are. So today I bought my first jar of mincemeat but with no meat. I will make your home made recipe one day though. Love your channel!💞
Today I made Mincemeat for the first time. So in 2 weeks I will be making mince pies and I'm planning to use your recipe (sweet short crust). I will let you know how they turn out.
These look great Steve, I'll be making this tomorrow for sure! As for my fave Mince Pie's, I started making some mincemeat Chelsea buns for Christmas about 5 years ago, I make them every year and the kids have got more and more involved, this year they made a batch entirely on their own and they were superb. I'm nominating those therefore.
my husband has volunteered me to make 24 mince pies for a party we've been invited to THIS EVENING! So I've been looking through your tube for easiest (but still good recipes) . I'll be making these with a little extra idea pinched from good ol Mary Berry. wish me luck lol. Thanks and merry Christmas 😀
The pastry looks like my shortbread cookie recipe. I also have been making figgy puddings for about fifteen years. I think i shall give mince tarts or pies a go.

I too love these pies. I have 3 or 4 recipes on my channel for them, showing all the regional variations. Which do you like..

Your Christmas recipes are fantastic. I have four puddings put up and a big jar of mincemeat.
Brilliant! I always struggled with the pastry. I never considered adding three egg yokes. But I will certainly add these in my next batch! 👍🏻
Yogurt contain eggs, just add that if you can't get eggs
Just made my first mince pies directly following your recipe. They have turned out just like your video and taste lovely. Even my wife gave me the highest accolade. Thank you, I will me making more. Thank you so much.
