I feel like people's "style" isn't something they can force like some might take from this video. I think it's whatever you find yourself always be pulled back to. Not something you check mark on a big to do list personally. I mean there might be some where it doesn't really come naturally, but your "style" should never be on the forefront of your mind. Experimentation is the best way to find what you like and want, not trying to focus on one thing for a long time until you realize it doesn't work for you or try to make something your own.
Fair point. But one can still be mindful of it and intentional in what they do. For instance. Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak. Silk sonic. They worked together with D.Mile and Bootsy Collins to develop a 70s R&B sound. That was very intentional. Sometimes limiting yourself is the best thing for creativity. But my word is not the final word lol, people who watch my videos watch many other videos too. Read blogs. Watch courses etc. it’s their responsibility to develop a well rounded view and one that is their own. And that takes time. I’m just sharing my views and approach on this channel. And of course you’re right, experimentation is a great way to find what you like and want. But so is listening to music you want to make, learning how it works and being intentional. When you know music theory and understand what you are hearing, you can be more intentional in the decisions you make. Like composers who write scores without playing a single note. There’s many approaches, no one size fits all. And like I said, what I say is not gospel, it never has been, never will be, it’s just an opinion.
