  • In this video we travel up the Great Sandy Straight from Tin Can Bay, up past Fraser Island to Bernett Heads near Bundaberg. We will be staying here for about a month now to put Renko on the hard stand next Brupeg to fix the rusty deck and do some painting amongst other jobs.

      Stu actually I love boats, I have a small engineering workshop just south of Bundaberg and I get to do a lot of aluminium welding on tinnys Mainly because the “captains” crash into Australia on a fairly regular basis. The bad news is (1) nothing on a boat is a straight line and(2) The tungsten termites (otherwise known as electrolysis) makes them a bugger to repair.😺👍

    • @DangarMarine
      @DangarMarine  3 роки тому

      Not sure, it looked about that size to me. I'll clean it up a bit more and see if I can tell. Small keels may help. So will more practice. ;) Living on the swing mooring at home I don't do a lot of reversing so I'm sure I'll get better at anticipating the transverse thurst. A reverse camera would go a long way too as visibility astern is poor. I can see why people dock from their flybridge.

    Nice shoreline and ocean views. Careful on melting lead. Don't want to breath the fumes and make sure no moisture around to drip into the melting pot. I have melted bullets and fishing baits but never happened to me. Had a friend had a drop of sweat drip off his nose and it fell into his molten lead and almost emptied the pot from exploding steam. Luckily none of the lead landed on him. Video stabilization on the GoPro makes for great "no shake" video.

    Great run for Renko. Must give you a lot of confidence in her ability. Would have been great to get used to using all the Raymarine gear too.

      It has given me more confidence in the boat. There is loads to learn about the Raymarine gear but I'm slowly getting there. I'll do a few tips videos for other Raymarine owners once I get more familiar with it all.

    Gar in the USA are a very different fish that gets a lot larger.

    Hi Stu,, loved the commentary,, good to see you in Bundy I've wandered up and down the east cost of Aussie over the last 60 years but Bundy is sorta home,, Was the rubbish man in Burnett Heads 50 years ago but its grown up a bit since then ,, haha,, keep the vids coming,.. Yet that bit of lead was the head of a Lead Head Roofing nail ,, ,, all roofing nails were lead head until they changed to Spring Heads in the late 60's I guess,,

      At a guess.... a run of the mill Detroit 471s fuel consumption is 2.5gph@1400rpm, 5gph@1800rpm and 9gph@2200rpm. Think he said he was getting 6.5kts@1600rpm and it was approx 700nm. Say 700nm@4gph@6.5kts = 430g or 1680l. Let's see how close I am.
      And that is why I'm a sailor aka a tight arse ; )
