Just out of curiosity, what happens in a worst case scenario while crossing a shallow narrows channel like you did and you have total propulsion loss(I'm a professional pilot, I have to worry about things like that)? Are there emergency services nearby to tow you to depth or are you just going to end up high and dry, and would that be devastating to a boat like Renko? I'm assuming she would end up on her side and possibly take on water before floating when the tide comes back up...
Part of the reason you leave an hour before the high tide is so if you do run aground the water is still coming up so you can back away from the shallow section. It is also important to make sure that the following day's high tide is higher rather than lower. If you do get stuck you can run anchors out and lines to trees to stop the boat tipping over at low tide.
As good a video as this long-time viewer has ever seen you post. Your editing was wonderfully fluid. The lightning flashes, the two sunsets and the entire reef snorkeling session were just first-rate videography. Bravo.

I highly recommend the hookah system. When my tanks tanks expired 6 yrs ago I built a hookah system that paid for itself in 4yrs. I used quality equipment, 350PSI dive hose, Hookah regs, a spray painters filter pack, 75m hose and 1 1/2hp oil free compressor to dive down 20m. I can send more info if you like. No regrets.
They were. One of the things I really like about metal detecting is researching finds afterwards. It's amazing where that research takes you and the things you learn.

Use a 4wd awning that rolls out. I have one in my boat. It mounts into my rod holders on the roof. So its removable.. 4wd super centre sell them cheap.
So glad to see you using paper charts! I got my inshore and coastal navigation certificates using only them and have always seen GPS as just a handy backup. I get real pleasure out of penciling in the course and then ticking off waypoints 😃.

I used to live in yeppoon, hope you had a chance to get into the cruising yacht club in the Keppel marina, i haven't been there in a few years but it was a beautiful spot for a beer.

I had a issue with my canopy once on my old boat. I ended up buying a telescopic ladder taking it apart mounting the poles to the corners of the wheel house with light aluminum brackets connected between the 2 in order to hold up the fabric. My wife sowed pockets in the fabric for the brackets works like a charm extending in and out

Did some freeze frame capture with the hopes of attempting drawing them later - ended up with some stunning pictures, so thanks for that. I do love living the sailing life with you and your wife. Hey there again from the Oil Patch in Central WY! I just wanted to Thank You so much for this episode! The scenes of the turtles, the myriad fish species together, and the turtle munching on something in the coral really made me smile! I hope you'll post MORE footage of your time down there, because it is nothing less than amazing to a former skin diver from Puget Sound, WA, who finished up in the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming! I've used Hookah systems in Gold Dredging before and they REALLY make a difference in ease of movement in most instances, HOWEVER, above and beyond the usual constraints (for you, that would be diving wrecks, coral outcroppings, and rocky ridges with crevices, plus everything in between; ie, heavy kelp beds, submerged debris), make sure you consider an emergency level 'rebreather' unit (yes, I know, EXPENSIVE, but given how much time you intend to spend in the water, how much is your life worth throughout all those hours of filming and exploration?), or an emergency 10-15 minute oxy tube/canister WHEN your oxy line gets cut/impinged (crushed by falling/dislocated rock, submerged debris, or the rare occasion of a shark/cuda saying "Say, that funny looking skinny thing floating in the water just might be tasty! Let's nibble and see!", or a fitting that looked good up top suddenly develops 'a leak'! There is of course the Depth Limitations of a Hookah system, based upon the HP of your motor(s) and the Max Press. of your compressor. Throw in the size of your Oxy Reservoir (which will play havoc at times with your line and your fittings depending on current/wind/everything else in the water; in the case gold dredging it can be, ducks, geese, otters "Ooooohhhh, shiny, shiny....", and the Hookah System provides plenty of drawbacks, while offering fantastic freedom of movement, CHEAP (in the long run) oxygen, which means more time under the water (and more filming). Personally, given what you've said you want to do, I'd take several moments (with a really good fifth of your fave distillation in a fine lead crystal glass) over a series of several weeks (which will definitely mean several fifths) to a few months, to seriously consider a Dedicated ReBreather Unit, along with a small waist (small of back) fitted Emergency Canister in case the ReBreather goes tits up. The ReBreather would give you the best of both worlds; from real Scuba Tanks and from a Hookah System: duration and freedom of movement, with FEWER (and this is the BIG advantage) opportunities for something to go heinously and deadly wrong (lines of the hookah system mostly), while cutting down on scuba tank/fittings problems (change overs, multiple regulators, multiple gauges, etc.). Bottom line: decide what would work BEST under the water (WITHOUT considering costs at this point), THEN add in for consideration costs compared to limitations of each system (including an Onboard Oxy Compressor to refill tanks related to costs and upkeep, and space taken). Well, that's my fresh water 2 cents worth from the middle of Nowhere Wyoming! Thanks again for the great video! Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY
I had heard about electrically-operated air pumps for diving, but haven't ever seen one in use. Especially on UA-cam, everyone seems to use tanks and regulators. Be cool to see it when/if you get one.
I think it is going to work really well on Renko with the solar setup. I ended up ordering one from Melbourne so hopefully if the courier doesn't lose it we'll be able to pick it up from Yeppoon in a few days. Getting excited!
As someone who's been watching since you bought Renko, it's great to see her out on the water doing what boats should do. Love the sea turtle footage too.
Re the shade, depending on whether the weather determines whether you want a waterproof covering or not, consider whether a shade sale is more appropriate or whether a canvas one is more appropriate. Perhaps a custom one of each. One shade and a canvas one - weather dependent of course...

I have a 1950's nautical chart for Broken Bay, framed in my family room. It shows Barranjoey , Dangar Island and up to Berowra where I live. Depths are in fathoms and feet, it shows the torpedo range in Pittwater and the tidal flows in the Hawkesbury River in knots. I had never even noticed the "protractor circle". Thanks for the navigation lesson.
The style and faded colours match our old furniture AND my father was seconded to the Hydrographic Branch of the RAN during WW2 drawing and redrawing navigation maps. I don't know if he actually worked on the Broken Bay sheet, but it feels as though their is a family connection. I also have his "parallelogram" ruler. @@DangarMarine
I live not far from Gladstone. I have worked on the wharfs there a fair bit and it’s amazing to see it from this point of view. Definitely motivating me to get out on the water! Only got a 3.9 tinny but dreaming of the day I can get out further 🙂

Years ago OMC had a diving system for 2 people running on a 2 stroke ( lawnboy ) motor and basically was an air compressor with hoses and masks and floated above you ! You could do something like that !
Hey Stu - try making your own tarps up out of "weed membrane". I've been doing it a couple of years, cheap as chips and a doddle. Fix 'em with shock cord or bungees etc, works way better than fixed lines. treat any frayed bits with heat, when making holes try to tease the fibres apart rather than cutting, or maybe use a soldering iron, cheers!

I have done a few of those types of shade clothes at home and they do work well. I'll definitely use shock cord to keep it tensioned in version 2.
