    One thing to note with Chrysler/Jeep/etc. The frequency used in the TPSM system changed in the late 2011 models. Pre and post change equipment will not operate with each other. So if you are buying used rims you will need to know which year they came off of. Same if you are ordering a new sensor(s) make sure you are getting the right one(s) or you'll end up causing yourself fits.

      In Germany we now have a law that makes it obligatory to install TPMS System in cars after 11/2012 and i simply think it is stupid. Stop.. no, not stupid in general but the TPMS systems that use these Sensors are stupid from my perspective. The ones that us the abs-sensor are the clever ones. No 100$/€ extra sensors and it works realy good. I hope that most of the manufacturers step on them.

      1kleineMax1 Sadly it has been passed, granted I drive an old vehicle from 1992 so no TPMS at all.
      But if I had something newer, I would have to admit that I would be looking at a TPMS disabling kit, so that they can't fail my car under inspection for not having that crappy system.
      There are certain things the law mandates that are best forgotten because of overcomplication, and this is one of them.

    Great video. Looks like you get a lot of Chrysler car on the shop, goof for you.
    TPMS another lovely feature that DIYers like me hate. Most of the cars don't allow to store two sets of codes on the PCM if you have winter/summer wheels. So you have to go through this again twice a year.If you have the reset tool you have to pay to relearn the codes, what a cash cow.
    Shouldn't you suggest to the customer to replace all 4 sensors as they will be dying one by one from now on?
    Mine are still OK after 6.5 years on my Lancer

    • @SouthMainAuto
      @SouthMainAuto  9 років тому +2

      I can suggest it but at about a $65 to $95 installed out the door price each its a hard sell. I'm not to pushy of a sales person really. To bad you didn't live closer. I have a lot of customers that just swing in and I reprogram them in a minute during winter swap outs. A lot of times it's just for a hand shake. Customers are good and it's simple things like that, that keep them coming back :) Oh yeah Chrysler... see a lot of those. Dependable vehicles? You do the math haha

    • @MLB-Av-Geek
      @MLB-Av-Geek 9 років тому +1

      ATEQ actually makes a tool that stores sensor data for two different sets of sensors for folks that have summer/winter wheels. I use it with customer Evo X's all the time.

    Just wondering. Since you cloned the old TPMS ID into the replacement TPMS, it should not have been necessary to flash the sensor ID's into the ECU. The ECU would have already had the ID for the replacement sensor stored. So I'm thinking the flashing step could have been skipped.

    It's things like this that make me never want to use TPMS. More trouble than it's worth, especially when there's nothing wrong with the tire. Oh, hope you enjoyed that cookie!

    • @henryt9254
      @henryt9254 8 років тому +1

      +Silky Tp It serves its purpose. I've seen too many cars on the road that the drivers are clueless when their tires are low on pressure. Its dangerous not only to themselves but to others that share the road.

    • @silkytp789

      +Henry Ting I suppose it's like the idiot light for oil. Those who check their oil think the lights are a joke. Reminds me of when I was married. "Honey, why didn't you tell me that the oil light was on on the dash?" She said "I thought if it were a problem, it would have been redder". True story.

    I run two sets of tires on my G35. Summer performance tires and winter snow tires. Change tires after each season is over, but I never had to program the winter set when I brought them. Just slapped the winter set on and didn't get any tire pressure warning light. Only time the light is on is when I start the engine and if One of the tire is low on air.

    What brand of replacement TPMS sensors have you had the best results from on Jeeps (Chrysler/Dodge & Rams)?
    I have 2012 Jeep Liberty Sport and have at least one bad sensor as my light is staying on with all tire pressures to spec.
    Given the age of my vehicle, I plan on replacing all of the TPMS sensors before putting new tires on.
    I was surprised when looking at a couple of the parts store's websites in that they had about 15 to 20 sensor listings all claiming to be a "Perfect Fit" for my vehicle. How could there be so many?
    Thanks for your very informative video.

      Get Autel MX sensors. They are generic, inexpensive, the sensor has a quick disconnect from the valve stem. A new valve stem is a couple bucks so you can move them to another vehicle and REPROGRAM.

    I am told my TPMS Module is bad on my 2012 Town and Country. Dealer wants over $600 to replace. I can buy it online for less that $100! Do you know the location of said module? It must be outside the vehicle somewhere because they said there was corrosion involved.

    Would a check tpm system with no flashing lights, cause the vehicle to randomly stop running? I took my vehicle in, it randomly shut off and turned out to be a crank shaft sensor. I got it done and when I picked it up, it said check tpm system. Didn’t have them look at it. Thought, another trouble for another day. I’ll just check my tire pressure from time to time. We’ll, ever since then, the vehicle would randomly shut off. No warning lights no nothing. But I’ll just get the same thing. Check tpm system. It turns back on okay and drives fine. Then out of no where, shuts down again. No warning.

According to the mechanic, the computer is reading that there is a new sensor but no one can figure out how to program it. Any suggestions? I've been quoted another $130 for another tire shop to use their sensor to fix this problem : /

    2015 Jeep wrangler jk unlimited sport 4 door. I just don't understand why it waited a week later. What I done was checking to see if my tires were swapped from the rear to the front. I let the air out of my left rear and it came on even after I put air back in it. It won't go off. I took it to the dealer and they said it's because I don't have my spare on.

    • @SouthMainAuto
      @SouthMainAuto  9 років тому

      Your welcome. Put it on and drive it for a bit (5 miles at the most I would assume) If that doesn't work and you have access to a compressor, park the vehicle and leave it running while you go around to each tire and deflate them about ten pounds then fill them up to what is stated on the door placard. This should "activate" each sensor and if the vehicle is running it will receive the signal and tpms data. Don't forget to do the spare too. Hope it helps ya :)

    A $1500 gadget made to do such a simple thing. If chrysler or any manufacturer sells a vehicle with tpms and owners are expected to replace them when we buy new tires or do a relearn every time we do a rotation, then such a gadget should be included with the price of the car - just like a jack or lug wrench. These are just like rf keyless remote fobs programming - another scam by car companies do to keep cash flowing into their dealership service departments. Shame on them.
    ...btw, I can hardly blame a repair place for charging $20-$30 or more for the 1 minute service of relearning the tpms valves when they have to pay so much for the device to do it. The damn system should not be so complicated in the first place that it takes a special computer device to do this. Its asinine!

      South Main Auto Repair I know they do and it's the only one I would have put into vehicles. As I can see if my tires are low on the car. It's the spare I want to know that is good if I need it. As having to pull it just to find out it's flat or low on air is kinda too late.
      One reason I drop it to check its status every 1-2 months. As I still live in the stone age and to rely on my noodle.

    TPMS should only be on luxury vehicles, or only an option. It's only purpose is to cost people money and make money for tire shops, dealerships, and mechanics. Wal Mart will refuse to service your tires if it is broken, and a few tire shops will refuse to replace your tires if you do not pay to fix it. The 1 time I did was $80 for 1 tire. Firestone refused service if I did not and I had already been there a hour.
    tire discounters broke my valve stem and tried to charge me to fix the sensor.
