    100% agree on the extended wheelbase making a difference. Inspires a lot of confidence riding steep hills & mountains in Alaska. Looking to go with this exact tire size from the factory 26's on my 2020 XT 2-up.

    Thanks for the video and info, I Bought a 2018 XMR1000r for a good deal but I am not a Mudder and hate the ITP crypted rough ride on grass dirt and pavment. I plan to swap wheels and tires and get it tuned. I used to have a renegade 1000r xxc so I am used to a stiff ride. I have a maxx seat and wanted the ability to carry a passenger.

    2020 (and I believe 2019 too) 1000's are the only "drive by wire", every other model and older 1000's are "drive by cable". I'm betting that new display is tied to the drive by wire system (different computer, harness, etc would be needed).
    I really like the carnivores on there. My cousin replaced the 32" Cryptids that came on his 2019 Maverick x3 XMR with 32" carnivores and he loves them for trail riding in the south.
    I too would like a outlander 1000 xmr to use as a trail machine. I wasn't a fan of the 2019 colorways, but I'm in love with both the color options they have this year. I may have to finally pull the trigger on one this year.

      conbon 575 The 850 did get the drive-by-wire for 2020, happen to notice it recently at a local dealer. And you’re correct, the display goes hand in hand with the new system. In stock form the XMR isn’t that comfortable because the Cryptids don’t flex at all. With the Carnivoires it definitely adds an extra level of comfort.
      My only complaint is that the plastics aren’t the automotive grade paint that’s scratch resistant, but I suppose that’s a small detail because the average customer wouldn’t care about that. For 2019 they also added a front sway bar. I may end up removing it to see if it helps in trail riding.

    I didn't go with 30" blackwaters, even thought they were like $10 more a tire. I didn't want the bike to be too high centered, plus the 28"s turn better with less unsprung weight. I notice the 2020's don't have the fox piggybacks, there the 1.5 fox shocks now.

    • @stephensmith745
      @stephensmith745  4 роки тому

      d d They obviously are cutting costs on these things but the shocks do ok, might upgrade later. Also, big blocky tread looks great and tough but the best combination for a true do-it-all tire is softer tread compound and smaller tread blocks with siping. Maxxis uses good rubber compound, I’ve seen some tires that don’t flex even with no air in them.

  • @jermainehearn

    Are the shocks adjustable to ride softer like the XT? I’m look to get a Outlander 1000XMR and do trail or hybrid tires. I do dirt and light mud (nothing deeper that 6 to 10 inches) on the trails. I dig your setup!!! 💪🏾

    • @stephensmith745
      @stephensmith745  4 роки тому

      They are adjustable however at factory setting the front tires will rub under hard compression, meaning there really isn't all that much travel but its the price you pay for additional ground clearance. The ride is good overall especially with the proper tire. Its definitely the BMW of the ATV world (performance, expensive parts, difficult to service etc etc) so its just something to keep in mind. Also, the motor does a great job of hauling this beast around, but occasionally it will remind you of its weight. The Renegade is definitely the athlete of the bunch with a significant weight loss and better power to weight ratio.

    your right, theres not alot of videos on the xmr 1000r outlander at any year.
    Im surprised you had to add the had guards, i thought that was stock
    I don't like the knuckle cover in the middle of the handlebars. its the same one they use on all the rest.
    I have an 18 xmr 1000r outlander in orangy red, I prefer the dual analog gauges and the knuckle cover on mine.
    I had to change the cryptids to 28" blackwater's, and I tried reducing the preload on the springs, I took an inch off them and the bike was bottoming out the shocks on all the "yesmaams" so I increased them back a half inch. bike is way to stiff. I run like 4lbs in my tires, it sacrifices some ride height.

    • @stephensmith745
      @stephensmith745  4 роки тому

      d d I don’t like the cover either, may swap it soon. Yeah if you look at CanAms website you’ll see they don’t have handguards, not sure why. I’ve only got 60 miles on mine and the suspension is still breaking in. They added front sway bars starting in 2019 and I may remove mine to get some more articulation. The 30s are doing very well. Also, sent my ECU in for a re-flash and that’s supposed to really wake it up. Also added RJWC rear LED lights, I’ll make another video when all that’s conpleted.

      @@stephensmith745 sounds good, should do a ride video explaining any differences you notice with the reflash.
      I doubt the suspension will break in to any noticable difference.
      I bought mine used with 1000kms on it, the original owner had CVtech primary and secondary done with a competition belt that cannot be had by the general public. You will eat through belts if you start hammering down on this beast. I have not had any problem with mine, but I don't ride hard either. But i have confidence in it.

    • @stephensmith745
      @stephensmith745  4 роки тому

      d d This might sound funny but I don’t do mud of any kind, I avoid it at all cost. The long wheel base is great for climbing and almost 14” of ground clearance gets me over most anything. When the radiator kicks in I’ll warm my hands like one of those bathroom hot air driers ha ha. It’s a beast and is very nice to cruise down the trail. I love the torque and sound but don’t intend to abuse it.

      @dcsales2007 4 роки тому

      @@stephensmith745 I had to update my thumbnail, but like you, i didn't buy this for mudding, it was because its the baddest ATV on the market. And I like the look of it. I didn't realize how stiff it was beforehand though. dissapointed at that.
      I do like that its as close to a skidoo as you can get on 4 wheels, when you stab the throttle, it whines out.

  • @wannabejeeper
    @wannabejeeper Рік тому

    I'm with you that I don't go out looking for mud, but I like to have the rig that can handle it. I had a 2019 Maverick Sport XMR, but found the suspension to be very stiff. Looking at an Outlander now... debating on the XMR or the XTP. In the XMR I like the rad relocate, 30" Criptids, and Lower gearing, but the XTP I like the Fox shocks, beadlocks, and rear seat. Ideally I'll get one and add the features of the other as time and money allows. Both are the same price and have the front locker. What do you think?

    • @stephensmith745
      @stephensmith745  Рік тому +1

      There is always a compromise no matter what route you go, that being said the XMR offers a lot of advantage depending on how you use it. Like you said, gearing, rad relocate, extended chassis makes it amazing for hill climbs, stability, etc. One downside is to maintain the ride height and ground clearance you have less overall shock travel so it's stiff no matter what. Airing tires down a bit definitely helps. In a perfect world we would a modified XMR for some rides and other rides have a setup for comfort and speed. But again, if you are gonna drop a lot of coin doing all the typical mud mods, way better starting with the XMR. Guys in the CanAm forums usually end up swapping the Fox shocks on the XT-P with Elka's, they say they are better than stock but not night & day difference.

    Looking for a machine that is basically indestructable......I am looking into this 2020 outlander 1000 Xmr. I drive year round, in all weather( snow, rain, mud, ice, etc). I am wondering about the ride experience with this beast, and reliability. I have a 2014 Yamaha Grizzly 700 right now, and it's extremely reliable, however not that powerful. I could go with the outlander 1000, but I like the rad relocate on the xmr, as plowing through snow in the woods during winter can sometimes damage the rads when they are choked off with snow.
    Just wondering how you like the ride on the new Machine, and where you have taken it thus far.

    • @stephensmith745
      @stephensmith745  4 роки тому

      Matt Gardiner The suspension isn’t that great simply because you have limited travel to maintain factory ground clearance. When I added the new tires it helped a lot because the stock tires have almost no flex at all. Now it’s very acceptable in my opinion. Like anything there are always pros and cons, you have to decide your top priorities and go with them. The engine is the real draw here, everything I’ve read about them is fantastic. If there was a drawback, maintenance is difficult on these. I have always done my own maintenance and I GLADLY pay a shop a reasonable rate to perform maintenance, it’s just frustrating the way everything is so hard to get to. I really like V-Twin engines and Can-Am and Kawasaki are the only atv manufactures that offer them. (Polaris uses parallel twins) I’m very familiar with Kawasaki’s twin and if Kawasaki’s twin is a Corvette then ROTAX is a Ferrari. It’s just smooth power from start to finish, I would give anything for a ROTAX in a Yamaha.
      Also, depending on priorities the XMR is a great platform to build off of: 1. Wether you intend on using it or not the rad relocate is nice to have 2. Personally I like the stock clutching and it’s already geared to turn 30s with ease, haven’t had a single issue. 3 If you can live with the extended chassis, it absolutely increases comfort and stability especially on hills, plus you can add the passenger seat if you want.
