★About Professor Herp★
I started getting into the reptile hobby in February of 2018. My first reptile was my Bearded Dragon - Maxine Pegasus (creator of duel monsters btw). Since then, I have added five Yellow Ackie Monitors (Asus, Dell, LG, and two unnamed babies), a Chacoan Black and White Tegu (Frappuccino), a Crested Gecko (Destin), and a Russian Tortoise (Tortellini). I also have a dog named Thrall (yes, from World of Warcraft) who is a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix - aka a Chiweenie.
My goal with this channel is to share my knowledge, experience and journey with other reptile/animal enthusiasts and become a better caretaker because of it. Hopefully I can learn a lot from the community through these videos.

Been using a sprayer and wanted a bigger one, but never occurred to me to use a watering can 😂 simple cost effective solutions are the best and I feel very stupid 😂 great vid 👍🤘
Haha it took me a year to think of a watering can so don't worry! That's why we share information :)
Luckily my V. Salvator is a swimming machine and sheds beautifully but I will have ackies (preferably from you) someday.
From my understanding the Ackies come out during the day to warm and then back into burrows Whi hare going to be much higher humidity. Dāv did a video on them in the wild where he took temp and humidity readings in and out of burrows.

I have the same enclosure as scales13 and im using as much substrate as possible, but also have a nice deep dig box that my ackie loves. hes only a few months old now though

Thanks for the video! So what’s the trick to keeping lower temps and higher humidity? The ambient is around 85-90. Is that too high?
the lowest temp is 85F? I would aim a low temp of 75-83 depending on season. Easiest way to have good humidity is to have enough substrate that there exists a level of constant dampness some inches down. That way they can always burrow and get that humidity. I dump water in via a watering can when humidity is getting low. That combined with little ventilation helps. Really depends how consistent you want the humidity to be.
You dont worry about all that water in a wooden enclosure? Appreciate the humidity tips, you’ve taught me a lot about ackies :)
been 3 years with these wood enclosures, no water damage yet. If done right it'll last just fine.

Do u ever run into any mold issues with ur substrate? If so what do u do for it? Do u have springtails to help maintain it? Im having that issue with my substrate rn and am trying to let it dry out now. Im thinking its from it being to dumb all the time. Any tips would be great!
I did a few times but only under the water bowl which can stay overly wet. I usually just remove the affected substrate and some. Then let it dry out a bit. Move the water bowl to a different spot ideally. A cleanup crew helps!
@@ProfessorHerp ok its happening on the sides kinda at the bottom of the tank so its a lil hard to remove. I have springtails and isopodes in their. Im gonna try to get more ispodes when i can find them. But thanks for the reply.
has anyone experience with automatic raining tools like the monsoon solo? How would you set the rain? like every 24h for 2 secs? (it's the minimum). i thought about putting the raintubes above the substrate so it only rains on it. not on the rest of the enclosure. what do you think about it?
would love to hear your experience if you try it! All I have to say haha! If you have the money I think it's a worthwhile experiment.

I use the monsoon now and it works... ok i guess. i still have to water plants which are not in the reach of the rain. but it keeps the humidity on a nice level (40% air, 60% top of substrate. i put the rain on for 6 seconds every 24h. in the future i will aim the rain for the hides so it gets to a nice 80% humidity there. So far no shedding problems so i guess it works 😀
