You know, for all the times the Doctor gives his sonic screwdriver to his companions, I’m surprised he doesn’t just make them one to keep. Would save time, and reduce the number of times he/she seems to lose it
Honestly, it's weird he never carries a backup either. So many lives lost because he didn't have his sonic screwdriver or even any of the advanced tech he came across in all his years, same with the unwillingness to use a gun... So many useful gadgets he's come across in the show like the immortality trinket he used on maisie williams that kept her alive until the end of the universe... Also things like personal force field generators or even vortex manipulators, he could get out of pretty much every predicament just keeping one of those on his wrist be he instead chooses to go completely unarmed into all these dangerous situations only wielding his screwdriver... How many companions has he lost that he could've saved if he made use of all this tech, he could even build a vortex manipulator into his sonic screwdriver so nothing extra to carry around or one of my personal favorites jacks matter gun or whatever it was called that he used in the gas mask episode, it can easily delete walls and rematerialize them to make an easy escape. Or from that same episode the nanoparticles that could heal any illness and save people from death, why does he not have a cloud of that stuff following him around 24/7? I get not wanting to use weapons but why not carry around things meant to save lives like nanoparticle healing drones??? Yeah, they were the cause of the creepy gas mask zombies but that's just because they were never tuned to humans, once he fixed that they were literal lifesavers and the kid would've been dead without it...
