    • @nilloc93
      @nilloc93 6 років тому +21

      I mean martoks plan was sound. Strategically small raids to disrupt your enemy is a sound plan when facing a superior foe.
      Tactically the idea of attacking a base with a small raiding force, waiting for them to begin reconstituting their forces and then hitting again with a second force is also fairly clever.
      Kor just had klingon Alzheimers so you can't really blame him

    • @dparky1627
      @dparky1627 6 років тому +7

      The Federation was first and foremost an exploratory and science based fleet. At best they might be considered a self-defense force, but I'm hesitant to call it even that. Starfleet, and the Federation by extension, was a peacetime entity; this despite the fact that we've seen dozens of times in the Federation's history where they've had to fight full-scale wars and/or brush fire wars. They forgot the adage, "If you want peace, prepare for war."
      Shouldn't there be a Home Fleet in Sol System and local system defense fleets in other vital systems like Vulcan and Andor? How come we never see that? These fleets would serve the dual purpose of securing those systems against enemy attack or pirate activity and act as a ready reserve to reinforce other fleets as needed.

      @nilloc93, it's called a "double tap", the same strategy that American forces used in the Iraq invasion. You hit a target, then wait for first responders to tend to the wounded then hit the emergency workers.

  • @SergeantPsycho
    @SergeantPsycho 6 років тому +75

    I use this strategy in Stellaris when a larger faction declares war on me. I'll have some torpedo boat type corvettes move deep into enemy systems and attack their orbital resource stations, forcing the enemy to respond, while I build up my main fleet.

    • @RavingNutter
      @RavingNutter 6 років тому +10

    Using WW2 Naval tactics in Star Trek was one of the greatest ideas ever put to screen. I've always had a problem with ship tactics used in the different series, sometimes they just sit there and trade fire and other times they go in straight lines like they are not in a vacuum. Even the bigger ships maneuver in 3 axis so they should use that capability. For The EMPIRE!

      wouldn't make sense with the themes of the episode. It opens with Bashir and O'Brian arguing about the actions of Davey Crockett and other legends at the Alamo. Did those guys, now old legends, die in battle or having surrendered and being executed? Worf tells them that if he is the legend they believe he is than they should believe the legend; otherwise he is just a man and it doesn't matter how he died. The point being, Kor is a legend and deserves a legendary death. One worthy of Stova'kor. And your imagination is going to surpass reality everytime.

In the chaos, Kor believed himself to be in an entirely different, long-past battle and acted accordingly. Due to his legendary status, nobody dared to question his orders until Worf got involved.

    I wonder what would have happened if either of Kor's old friends (Kang and Koloth) had survived, would the mission have been different? I think it may have been, especially if it were Kang, instead of Kor.

      I haven't seen the episode so I don't know what it was for, but 'starbase' makes me think ship production/storage/maintenance area, so if they can delay production for months on end wouldn't you put a small force together to at least damage it?

      There were also 10k soldiers stationed there. The real effect would be to force the Dominion to reassign more ships to defending their assets to prevent such raids which would reduce the number of ships on the front lines.

    • @mandalorian_guy
      @mandalorian_guy 6 років тому +8

      The objective was to disable the base and force it to focus on repair and slowing down its production so it succeeded in that regard. It's much like Operation Chariot during WW2 where British commandos raided a French dry dock to disable it and force any Axis capital ships in the Atlantic to return to Germany for repairs.

    Once the Romulans got involved in the war, they should have suspended the anti cloak segment of the treaty of Algeron so the entire alpha quadrant Alliance could cloak, (maybe get a few concessions from the Federation in return, plus the agreement that once the war is over, the Feds go back to non cloaking). Federation ships are faster, so they could use this same tactic very effectively. But then they could also install surge protectors on all consoles, at least they aren't as incompetent as Star Wars Imperials.
    And the Cardassians Obsinian order had Romulan cloaks, shouldn't the Dominion have got access to them when they took over?

    It makes me wonder how anyone could mistake the Martok changeling for Martok. The Martok changeling had no strategic or tactical skill, as was demonstrated at the 1st battle of Deep Space 9, while Martok could come up with strategies and tactics like these.

    Hate to actually criticise you but at 0:32 you say a force of five ships; at 2:05 one is destroyed; so why exactly are there still five klingon ships in the tactical display from 3:30 onward? Something does not add up
