    bought a Guillow's Mustang 51 when I was in my 50's and promised myself that when I retire i would build it. Had to take care of my parents because of their health preventing me from building it. I'm now 72 and I think it's time to build it. Great video. thanks : )

    Fantastic, the drawing out of the rubber band before winding is a brilliant idea. Almost 50 years ago I built a j87 Stuka. may have been a guillows kit, 3 months to build 7 seconds to destroy. only 11 at the time knew nothing about flight. Hoping to try again. Thank you.

      Thank you for the comment. Such a beginning can prevent a successful start in this hobby. I was more fortunate: I started not with a scale model, but with a sports model. They are easier to build, easier to fly, much more robust and easier to repair. Greetings from Switzerland - Andreas.

    Love it; I built the Guillow's P-51D model. I combined and balanced two two-blade props into one four bladed prop to propel it with a rubber band... it worked flawlessly; well, until the band eventually broke and ripped through the side of the plane. But before that, it had tremendous power and flew perfectly. It stinks that lightweight four blade props; let alone, any useable four-blade props are hard to find for rubber-band planes. Yours looks incredibly nice.

    It has a real tendency to a hard banking left turn. This could be a result of the heavier 4 blade prop having more angular moment of inertia. Maybe shim the left side of the prop a little more to compensate. Beautiful plane!

    Very beautiful work and flies really well. Regarding the propeller: how did you calculate the diameter and pitch? Are they similar to the original two blade prop? May you describe us how did you build the four blade prop?
    Thanks, Stefano

    • @rubberfly
      @rubberfly  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you. I didn't calculate the propeller. I made the four blades with a carved prop block for a 7" diameter at 9" pitch. I like big propellers. The original 2 sheet prop didn't give me enough thrust for the proud weight of the model. Optimizing the thrust direction then took quite a few flights. Unfortunately I did not document the construction of the prop. I'll make up for that on a next project ...
