- Ge:o reaction to the amazing 'Dead Man's Shoes' as I watch for the first time
Been wanting to watch this for a while and it doesn't disappoint. Gritty, sad and gut wrenching.
Shane Meadows is amazing

*Richard returns to his home town of Matlock, Derbyshire, in the Peak District, England, after serving in the British Army. He and his younger, mentally impaired brother, Anthony, camp at an abandoned farm near the town. 'You were supposed to be a monster'. That line sends chill every time.
Best British film ever made. We can't deny that American films are another level, but this one is right up there!
Sometimes a good story beats all the other stuff
The acting is like not even acting it's exactly how people are from round there it's amazing one of the best movies
@@master_Blaster91 exactly bro. It’s not acting at all, it’s real life! The dialogue in Shane Meadows’ movies always feels natural and authentic, something that Hollywood movies seem to struggle with.
😂 your kidding right. Only trash comes from that country. Foreign films are on that other level your talking of.
@@Helios601 There's lots of trash in America, but we can't deny some of the best movies ever made are American
“Before You Embark On A Journey Of Revenge, Dig Two Graves” - Confucius
Oooooo I like that quote
Happy to see that more youtubers are reacting to this film. Great reaction, mate
Thank you so much
Oscar winning performance from paddy!
Thanks for reacting to this movie. I relate to Anthony. I was bullied as a kid too. Respect brother.
Thank you my man 👍
"What are you getting, 2 for 15? "
A man of culture, I see. 😅
There’s no such thing as 2 for 15 now lol I would now lol x
i grew up with paddy on the winshill council estate in burton on trent he is a realy nice guy so proud of what he has achived. saying that the whole cast of this film are such great actors.
U thought the guy who played Anthony was very good
So you knew the Winshill Ninja, the IRL inspiration for what was originally the comedy version of what Richards character became. I love Paddy as well and only live down the road from you heads (in Stafford).
Gary Stretch was just coming off the huge movie Alexander with Colin Farrel when he decided to do this film. His agent and actually alot of other people told him not to do the film but he really liked the script. Glad he went with it
One of my all time favourite movies and Paddy Considine is scary good in this. Thanks for the reaction, not many cover this film.
I trying to do some outside the box stuff
amazing film, we need more quality gritty british films & tv today
We do. The British attitude is just so different.
Excellent reaction, man! Such a good movie. As I remember, on the DVD there is an 'alternate ending' where Richard, instead of trying to calmly reason with Mark into killing him, all out threatens to kill his entire family if he doesn't stab him. I do prefer the original ending, but the other works well too. Nice work on getting the twist shortly before the reveal. It is definitely a story where we can laugh with and feel sorry for the victims, until we finally find out what it is they really did. So good. Glad you managed to track down a good copy of it! :)
Oh, I think Mark's wife is the mother in This is England btw! Meadows reuses a lot of actors, and I am pretty sure that is her! :)
Shaun’s mother !!!! That’s who it is.
I always sort of thought he was low key threatening Marks family at the end without flat out saying it. Cheer for the support mate
Deadmans Shoes amd The Crow are my favorite revenge films of all time. Both are brutal and equally beautiful and heartbreaking
"Everyone is a gangster until a real gangster enters the room." I am shocked to hear this, because, this is also a Polish saying. And Poland and Scotland have good history together. And I also have a gas mask but not the Czech one utilised in the film. God bless
My favourite saying (2nd favourite). Ive worked with a lot of Polish guys. Good people
@@ReactWithGeo God bless you!! Yes we Polak love you also!!
"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth".
Mike Tyson
19:12 that does work, its a palmstrike to the nose knocking the nosebone into the brain, which will have a one way ticket journey to the after present.
was about to type this myself
Great reaction Squire! Spot on with your opinion and analysis. Dead Man's Shoes is my favourite film ever. Very powerful.
Thank you pal. I Appreciate it
Richard saw himself as guilty and centensed himself to death for leaving Anthony. The last man standing wore the dead mans shoes,, has blood on his hands for a action he played apart in instigating. Having to live with that guilt is death to a man like the last man standing.
You rewatch it you notice the little subtle things. Like how the bloke he shouts at at the start, when re-telling the story. He Says "I saw this guy" not guys... As the brother isn't there. The fact when he tells the leader of the gang "this is you* and squishes his hand he looks over to where the brother is but doesn't even aknowledge he's there. (Because he isn't) ext ext
My man. Now I have to rewatch it
One of the best UK movies ever. And with no effects and a tiny budget. Film is about characters and story. Thanks for reacting to such a great movie.
My pleasure. Was under my radar for soo long.
definitely the best UK movie of the 2000s.
Watch the film mate.
Yeah, and listen. "I think I'm missing something." That's not surprising.
His brother has learning difficulties
Yea man upper flat palm to the nose is a quick kill technique taught in the military, its basically braining someone with their own nose n if not instant death their lungs fill with blood, so he really did shut him off...
In a small town selling E's and weed etc, you will only make good beer money , maybe 10k a year tops, I know cos I've been that man way back in the 90's
Top reaction to a great film. Hardly anyone has reacted to this so it’s nice to see. A proper grim revenge tale. If you’ve not seen “Get Carter” (1971) I’d highly recommend it. It’s a classic, gritty gangster film starring Michael Caine.
Mike Leigh is another top British director who’s done plenty of films depicting a very real and relatable view of the uk. “Naked” (1993), “Secrets & Lies” (1996), “Life is Sweet” (1990) and “Nuts in May” (1976) are just few to check out if you’ve not seen them.
I’d also recommend “Four Lions” (2010) and “Twin Town” (1997) both are modern classic, dark British comedies. Nice one dude.
Yes mate i was late to the party with this one. Like i said a lot of times we will watch American stuff and ignore things made here.
Thanks for the recommendations, I will check them out.
One of my favourite films ever. Glad to see the alternative ending mentioned in the comments. In the 'One Down' scene there is the word 'stop' written in blood on the cistern, left side. Can't make out if there is another word on the right though. Also Herb's hand visibly shakes when handing money to Sonny at the clubhouse. When Sonny first sees Richard at the 'party' section he makes a crossbow type motion with his hands. The whole film is very gritty and feels very realistic.
I saw a f****ing elephant !! omg when this came out that line was so funny. Such sad story tho but was definatley in my collection next to, this is england, snatch, lock stock..,rise of the footsoldier and all the others. I love when directors show originality tbh thanks for the reaction havent thought about this movie in a long while 👍🙂
That palm strike pushed his nose into his brain. That would definitely have killed him 😂
Never happens in the real world
British writers just don't follow the rules.
And I love it
One of my all time faves bro good to see a fellow scots opinion
Would love to know how much you enjoyed the watch
yeah, "bleak" is a good adjective to describe this excellent film.
Guilt is a heavy thing
The actress you recognized plays Shaun's mom in This is England
It is. Seems a lot younger
[9:07] took me off guard 😅 wasn't expecting the chib 🤣
Saw this when it came out, packs quite a punch 🤛
I was finally able to see this movie after seeing rave reviews by the same maker of This is England and it did not disappoint (while expecting a lot to be honest with you). The acting is in the same mold as This is England, but it's theme and tone is different. The cast delivered an excellent performance and I didn't see that ending coming. Like his broher, Richard impressed me and am looking into another movie where he stars: 'In America (2002)'. Different setting, but want to admire his acting once more.
I ignored this one for a long time also. Glad i finally watched it
@@ReactWithGeo I had to stop 'In America' due to a scene that was hard to see. Going to continue tomorrow. It's another emotionally loaded movie. Might be worth checking out. Richard plays his part well and there are adorable Irish kids.
U know they did something very fuckin bad when he took one down and showed it for display
Just wanted to say something about the comment you made at 13:11 about them dealing drugs but still looking poor (which is what you were basically saying). They're the low level dealers. They don't really make a lot of money. They make just enough to get by, but more importantly, they sell enough to feed their own drug habit.
Rule number 1 is don't get high on your own supply. But most low level dealers are only dealing so they can feed their habit.
Yea ive known a lot and its always the same. Also known a few who tranaitioned it to legit business
At the funeral scene, his uniform was terribly done, the para wings should be at the top of the right arm, not halfway down, and no para would ever wear a beret like that.
🥱
His mind was breaking, maybe even broke.
the punishment for the last guy was to face the reality that he had blood on his hands. with Anthony's death he could make excuses to himself but as we saw when he found out who the soldier was he did feel guilty for what happened but never faced it.
This movie is just so bleak and brutal. So good, but man, it’s a rough watch.
I never understood the Citroen 2CV .... 😅.
My old man had 3 of those beauties when I was growing up.
Tin can mate. Probably considered classics now though.
@@ReactWithGeo yeah 100% classics. One of the first cars I ever drove 😅.
BRILLIANT REACTION MATE AND YOU SHOULD KNOW CROSS THE WRONG PEOPLE AND THE PRICE IS HIGHER THAN YOUR ABLE TO CLIMB.
"2 for 15" - this came out in 2004 buddy
I used to get...I mean I know a guy who used to get 100 for £90. That was in the early 2000s. A short while before that was £20 each
Nice reaction overall buddy
Thanks my man
as a Scot you'll like ''Under the Skin'' check it man.
I'll have a look
Shane Meadows. Aka the greatest director of the modern era 🤷♂️
Could well be. No huge budget. No explosions. Just well written well acted and well directed
@@ReactWithGeo his films are just… real. The type of real that is extremely rare in Hollywood (special mention to Manchester by the Sea). Even in such a bleak film, he still manages to add bursts of humour that never feel out of place. YOU THERE MATE
British Classic
Gary Stretch (Sonny) is a great actor and a really nice fella. Plays a great baddy eh?
Plays it very well
@@ReactWithGeo Gary Stretch was a quality middle weight boxer who was the 1st guy to seriously put Chris Eubank to the test. Check the fight on YT. You'll be amazed you haven't seen it and glad you have... Versace model 1st, World Class boxer 2nd, Actor 3rd... Gary Stretch.. underestimated legend... AAA+++
'Did you feed the fish'
This film is even harder for me to watch now i have a son with Special needs 😢
The actor played it so convincingly as well
@@ReactWithGeo must have done a lot of research
Highly recommend “I Saw the Devil” or “The Man from Nowhere”.
I will have a look
Check out Burning and A Tale of Two Sisters, two brilliant Korean films.
Hi. Are subtitles available for this video? I'm Scottish.
And you cant understand the actors northern accents? Strange
@@ReactWithGeo Perfectly. But it's your reaction vid. And I've no idea what you're on about.
Bro when you are reacting to a film, concentrate on the film instead of tracksuits
You didn't get his bro was dead
Eventually
@@ReactWithGeo yep but not at start of film till end I was Yong and when I got it shock me to read the book
Apart from the obviously terrible wardrobe malfunction with the uniform, awesome film and an object lesson in how you shouldn’t feck off an ex paratrooper 😂
Eh? What malfunction?
Its just the money in Hollywood most of the top actors are from the UK anyway pinewood is the best studio in the world too
I think we do subtlety better but yeah very underrated
Its just a bit of a giggle though. Buy a flat or a static or not much point.
My favourite film of all time. The first time I watched this the ending absolutely broke me 😢
So sad but perfect at the same time. Any other ending would have ruined it.
New subscriber here brilliant reaction to an awesome movie, if you like Toby Kebbell the actor who played anthony he was in another very good British low budget movie called wilderness 2006 mite be worth checking out
Thanks my man ill have a look
Sightseers is good, a bit funnier but still very dark
I think I may have seen that
I think some of the worst acting I’ve ever seen is this guy kidding on he’s Scottish ,nobody in the whole of Scotland talks like that, wtf
Not everyone is from Glasgow, or North of Ireland, 1872.
Most drug dealers don't make much more money than a McDonald's supervisor.
Pretty pointless. Most i know are in it to cover their own expenses
Best film ever made
It may well be
For 3 years I didn't know his bro was not in the film but I'm his head I 😭 when I know and see it agen I thort he was ther
Nay Botha man, im a Geordie, i kna whaat ye saying like.
Love Geordies 🤙
No you don't need a big budget, the script is EVERYTHING.
Absolutely
Antony haunts Richard
*09:41** Me too man, I've "heard" of acid too*
Its pretty good apparently
Great reaction mate.
