    Great stuff Felipe,
    Over the years I've been lucky to get a number of 50s/60s BN OGs and there is simply nothing like them. Thanks for this very informativ video!

    Thanks for the shout-out Felipe. Great video and thanks for sharing your knowledge. Blue Note is such a rabbit hole! For years I resisted getting into the early pressings but now I'm hooked, sadly.

    Wow! What a cool study for Blue Note records and labels. You have some sweet copies of Blue Train. 😍 What a great shirt as well. Take care.

      Hey Melinda, it is a fascinating subject to me, I've wanting to do it for some time, and Blue Train really made me start lol. The t-shirt I bought during their last tour in 2012, it was a great show and I kept it. Thanks so much for watching, means a lot. F

      Yes indeed, that copy is immaculate. Never thought I'd see a 61 record so clean. Looks unplayed. Thanks for supporting! F

    A great learning session! Is just enough for me to know at my level of interest in US Blue Notes. Many thanks, Felipe. May I suggest to have a future session on the Japanese Blue Note releases?

      Thanks for watching, suggestion taken, those variations can be quite good as well, need to take a look. F

    Thanks very much, Felipe. This vid is very helpful and has some extremely useful information.
    I’ve got a stereo Blue Train with the white “b” logo and LW-81577 on the label. Its got RVG and MASTERED BY LIBERTY in the deadwax. It’s obviously a reissue, I believe from the late 70’s or early 80’s. Anyway, this “stereo” pressing is so odd. It’s really 2 mono channels with different EQ’s applied to the L&R sides. The left side sounds a bit muffled and the right sounds great. I play it with my mono cart, and then it sounds fine. I’ve never really encountered this before.

      Hi Nick, yes it is incredible how many variations out there exist. The first pressings are very immediate, hit you directly. My first stereo press was the tone poet to be honest, so I can not make stereo comparisons for you. Those 70s records sound good but sometimes are a hit and miss. A Van Gelder metal which was probably "re-mastered". I usually avoid the ones labeled as "re-channeled for stereo" too, which usually don't sound good with few exceptions. I think the TP may be the ultimate stereo edition.

      This would be a "rechanneled for stereo" pressing. Best to avoid.

      @@JazzBums Thanks Felipe. I keep meaning to pick up the tune poet. Did you buy the stereo and mono pressings? I know there’s a package deal kinda thing with both, which I think is hysterical, but I’ll likely buy. They know damn we wanna hear both, and that well buy em both in second….and…we’ll complain if they don’t.. 😂 If you do have em, which do you prefer? What’s the difference between them? Thanks a ton, Felipe.

      @@joeharley8396 Yeah, that’s exactly what it is. Good call. It’s literally both channels are exactly the same, just EQ’d differently. I was gonna sell it, but It’s almost so odd that I’ll probably just keep it. lol

    Is the book: “The Blue Note Label: ‘A Discography Revived And Expanded” by Michael Cuscuna and Michel Ruppli” the best source for identifying Blue Note variants?

      Hi, this is a good book, but I find Fred Cohen’s book, which is linked in the description, the one to be the most detailed on the labels and pressings subject. F

    this "Abbey" copy of 1595 - I've never heard it to exist except on NY USA label pressings, which would make it a repressing and not a variety of the original, no?

    • @JazzBums
      @JazzBums  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for commenting, always nice to engage and learn more. You're correct, it was a repress, due of course to high demand of such title. It is a NY indeed, Not a 47 West 63. Nice attention to detail, appreciate it! - F
