90% of people wish they could speak this coherently. Professor Raia is very fluid not only in speech, but in subject matter as well. I wish we had teachers this good when I was in school. Great Job Peace........
She does a really fantastic job giving a snapshot of these ideas and showing how they contributed to the course of science. I like the part about Newton in particular, since I think that we tend to take Newton's realization for granted, since we grow up hearing about it all the time. But it's a crazy idea, isn't it? That two kinds of motion, objects falling to the ground and planets rotating around one another, are both described by the same law.
Love the analysis in these lectures, but the science is a bit mis-communicated. 45:30 The formulae are not correctly written and the point made is not correct. On the slide point 2 is not correct, gravity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance, not to the distance. Point 3. has intensity = force/4πr^2 which is incorrect - intensity is not a good term to use for starters, and what you actually mean is force. The formula is F(orce) = G*mass(total)/r^2. In physics the more accurate term is magnitude as opposed to intensity, as r changes the *magnitude* of the force of gravity changes. The discussion of two types of motion is also clumsy, it talks about motion up and down combining to create a parabola, it is not, it is the vertical motion under the force of gravity and the lateral motion under the mechanical force of the explosion that combine to form a parabola.
true dat, but for an understanding of the historical truth to save society from a new imbalance of authority that the anti-intellectual movement seems aimed at; the history would have to be laid out in a way even more simple and clear than Prof.Raia does here. Is that even possible? I mean you would have to make an understanding of the history appeal to anti-intellectuals. 'sounds hard
@wwjj2255 - THANK YOU!!! I hate ambiguity too. If she was wearing a powdered wig - It would be perfectly obvious that she's an authority figure and I should respect her. Im glad male faculty are not allowed to wear business casual in academic settings.
+Guitcad1 fuck you stuffy old fart....she's fucking hot. hot and smart that's a combination that is so far out of your class ...get a life since all this is so far over your pointy head just keep your animal hatred in your mouth and don't let it out.
"she's fucking hot." So tell me, what if she was just smart and not hot at all? Would you still step up for her? It seems like her hotness is what's first and foremost for you. It is, after all, the first point you brought up. It's a college classroom, not a runway and she's there to teach, not model. It's also not her living room and that's where her dog belongs. Having an pet in her classroom, a pet for which she interrupts her lectures, at length... that is so unprofessional it's downright bizarre. I don't hate animals, BTW. In fact, most of the time I prefer them to people.
@wwjj2255 That is strange, you say she knows her stuff, yet you wouldn't take her seriously because she dresses funny? Are you living in the 1950's? She doesn't really dress that crazy. It's not like she's in a clown suit. I don't understand. Just sayin'. =)
@sonicsnout She does know her stuff, and if I were only listening to the lecture I would have absolutely no problem. But...she dresses like a barbi doll! What ever happened to being professional? Sunshades on top of her head - are you fucking kidding me? If I were her superior I would pull her aside and give her an ultimatum. If I were her student I would make fun of her behind her back.
@sonicsnout When I say I wouldn't take her seriously, I am referring to her as an authority figure. I'm not criticizing her knowledge of the subject matter. I'm criticizing her lack of the ability to dress appropriately in an academic setting.

These are excellent lectures. Everyone should watch and understand history through this perspective.

Decarte did not reduce God to a mathematical being; Plato came up with that idea 2400 years ago.
What a beautiful woman! I love your videos. Your delivery is quite entertaining 😘.
@wwjj2255 seriously? That's a fancy ass pant suit, probably costs more than most make in a month o.O

She's from LA, everybody's zany there. I find it charming.
I once read that people dress like this when disguised as muggles.
drphosferrous what a muggel
Ok. I looked it up. Some who is not conversant in a topic.
37:32 Uh, this woman brought her dog to work. I would have serious reservations about taking any class with her.

i'll just remind you...get a life.
Charlie Hutch Oh geez, you got me. I never stood a chance. What was I thinking?

hat funny
@wwjj2255 She obviously used to be a stewardess.

Your final statement fully exposes your nature - shallow and cowardly.
I can't believe the way this chick dresses to teach class. She may know her stuff, but I wouldn't take her seriously.
