“That doesn’t mean I’m right”. That’s what makes Ian such a great guy - no star trip going on and never any bullshit. Top guy and brilliant drummer!!!!
Honestly this is one of the better cymbal comparison videos. It's great that we're not getting "sold" on anything and understanding what fits. Please make more of these!
I"m really late to the party on this one....I have to first admit, I currently play another brand which I've been loyal to for 20+ years. Lately I've been pondering Paiste. Mr. Paice is extremely honest in this video. He isn't just saying he loves everything because he is an Artist and I love that. As I'm researching, I'm very happy to have come across this video.
fantastic Ian Paice and fantastic Paiste Cymbal! i remember my first ride i bought long long time ago: 20'' ride 2002 , in1984. I knew that Paice used 2002. Fantastic sound till now, never i wanted to change it , incredible 'sound projecting' in my live performance, cymbal that never 'die' and possible to listen to also when microphone and ampli system not the best!!! of course , time to time, my set cymbal got bigger and bigger but : 2002 all. i liked very much also formula 602, mostly hi hat 13'' and wonderful Signature serie, if i remember first time i listened from William Kennedy with Yellow Jackets, very brilliant! i liked very much! . My set still fantastic and........solid!!! thanks Paiste, thanks Ian Paice! that ride 24' sound wonderfully!!!!
I like hearing his opinion on these cymbals because he has a ton of experience and knows what he personally likes and what sounds good in a rock, jazz, and (70's to 80's) metal
Paiste, do more of these artists' impressions with your star drummers (Stewart Copeland, Carl Palmer, etc.). Most of the impressions I see up are with people I've never heard of.
I'm in love with the Masters series. I'm using the 22" Dark Crisp ride (and LOVE it) and the 20" Dark crash. PLEASE expand this line, specifically the hi-hats and crashes. I'd like to see different sizes (bigger like 16" hats, 23",24" rides) weights/thicknesses (preferably thinner), more lathings (or lack thereof) / bigger hammering (more rich/complex), different bell sizes, bow lengths, etc. I'm so incredibly inspired by this series. It hasn't been around as long as the Signature, 2002, or Traditional series, so I understand the Masters line is still an infant relative to the others. I've played numerous shows and drummers come up to me asking "What ride/crash is that? It sounds incredible!" You guys turn heads with your cymbals. Keep it up. I look forward to what the future holds!
This was filmed in Woodley, near Reading in Berkshire, not London. I should know, I used to work in that shop. The ceiling in that place was about 20 ft high- not the best sounding room! I was always trying to get customers to buy Paistes!
So funny! Every cymbal he describes as "brutal" is the exact model I love! Hahaha! I really like the 22" Dark Ride, the 20" Crash Ride, and the 14" hi-hats. They're definitely not for everyone though.
1:03 Alex van Halen, Abe Laboriel Jr. (even uses a 24 inch Crash cymbal), John Robinson (i mean, it's HIS signature Cymbal), John Dolmayan (also has a signature ride cymbal).
Jeff Porcaro used the the larger Paiste Big Beat 24 inch with some regularity before his passing in the early 90’s. He never made a mistake. Technical wizard.
I get the feeling that Ian was supposed to do a polite discussion about each cymbal, and it just turned into "what I don't like about these cymbals" Paiste: "Hey, Ian, my friend. Want to talk about our cymbal line on camera?" Ian: "Sure mate, I'll be there" (while filming...) Paiste: "What do you think of these cymbals?" Ian: "Too brutal!" Paiste: "Oh, how about these" Ian: "Much too harsh"
The sign of a great drummer is not being able to tell he's dropped a stick if you was just listening and not watching... and the hardest part of becoming a drummer imo is finding your own unique sound... you can tell Ian's playing a mile away... only drummers notice certain things... you can't buy experience... and listening is free🙏🥁
With Paiste, I am also a 2002 fan, thanks to him and Bonham. That Paiste 2002 24" is really nice! Never owned a set, wanted them for many years in my younger days of rock playing but ended up deciding for Zildjian. These days, already retired from playing actively, I have not played Zildjians for long time and lately for the last couple years been with Sabian, The paragon Line and the HHX Evolution Line, I just recently got a collectors Sabian HH Session ride made after Todd Sucherman, very expensive ride, in fact the most expensive ride I have ever bought, still, I have a hard time putting it over the Paragon.
@@hannes1734 Not in Nottwil. The Nottwil rooms have a lot of light due to large windows with a direct view on the lake. Whatever. They have all cymbals as wished by the op.
Ian Paice checking out JR Robinson`s 24" Deep Ride, saying "John Bonham is the only guy I can think of using a ride that big as his ride cymbal". (I love Robinson too).
Nearest thing to wine-tasting for drummers. Ian has an excellent palette and like the best tasters knows how to express the traits of each cymbal. Take note of how he assesses the character of each by looking, playing and listening rather than label searching. Admittedly, he has decades of expertise to refer to and is my prime choice as an exemplar drummer.
Pretty sure these are Paistes answer to the Turkish style of cymbals that they never had in their lineup before and to compete against that segment (Zildjian, Sabian, Meinl Byzance)
Very nice. But I wish the sound quality was even better, recorded with better equipment and to what I can hear, less compressed. It only gives us a bit of the information.
It's way too hard to tell with no eq, or in a groove. I love the honesty! Paiste, PLEASE start making your cymbal cleaner again!!!! We spend, or I spend a fortune on ykur cymbals. All other cleaners stink, or ruun em.
at the time 10:04 Paice drops his stick but entirely normal for any drummer even though he is experienced as ian - NOTE: I doubt he liked these DARKS. he always used 2002 red label ahahahaha .......
“That doesn’t mean I’m right”. That’s what makes Ian such a great guy - no star trip going on and never any bullshit.
Top guy and brilliant drummer!!!!
That guy Ian Paice... I swear he's the ultimate gentleman. Completely genuine person and a friggin' great drummer. Class act.
He is. I've been lucky enough over the years to meet him and talk to him several times. Very down to earth. A true Gent.
Yes I’ve met him.. a perfect gentleman .....
Honestly this is one of the better cymbal comparison videos. It's great that we're not getting "sold" on anything and understanding what fits. Please make more of these!
I like that Ian gives real opinions on each cymbal without overhyping or discouraging you on their individual qualities.
Love the no-nonsense talk, so refreshing.

One of the great drummers and such a nice dude

Ian. The Legend never dies
superb drummer love how he plays

YES!!! We need 16” Masters Dark Hats!!
I'd love to see this as a series with other Paiste artists. Give some insight on why they like what they like rather than just a setup.
This was filmed in Woodley, near Reading in Berkshire, not London. I should know, I used to work in that shop. The ceiling in that place was about 20 ft high- not the best sounding room! I was always trying to get customers to buy Paistes!
i love these videos with Ian. interesting to see his real reaction to the different cymbals
What an incredible groove I love listening to him drum
That was so relaxing listening to Ian
I love Ian’s honesty, I found having the same views as him! Crisp rides are beautiful
That masters crash ride is dope, I’m buying that !!!
So funny! Every cymbal he describes as "brutal" is the exact model I love! Hahaha! I really like the 22" Dark Ride, the 20" Crash Ride, and the 14" hi-hats. They're definitely not for everyone though.
+Paul Marangoni I think he's saying brittle, not brutal. I may be wrong, but it makes more sense.
+oootinanai No he's definitely saying "brutal".
+Paul Marangoni Actually he says both. On 2:00 he's saying "quite brittle". For the rest of the cymbals I think you're right with "brutal".
As one of the originators of heavy metal drumming, brutal is in his vernacular
When I first heard this guy play when I was around 12 yrs old I was blown away. Wow what a great player.
I fell in love with the Signature heavy dry ride 21". Wonder if Ian would like that cymbal?
He's always so gentle and perfect with explanation ! HE IS MY INSPIRATION !
I liked this so much i had to stop and start over to make sure i really took in what he was saying.

Paiste Signature is my cup of tea
Dennis Rivenburg Thanks, I'm going make tea now.
Giant beats for me
and 2002
I love these cymbals.
I get the feeling that Ian was supposed to do a polite discussion about each cymbal, and it just turned into "what I don't like about these cymbals"
Paiste: "Hey, Ian, my friend. Want to talk about our cymbal line on camera?"
Ian: "Sure mate, I'll be there"
(while filming...)
Paiste: "What do you think of these cymbals?"
Ian: "Too brutal!"
Paiste: "Oh, how about these"
Ian: "Much too harsh"
A testament to Paiste listening to their endorsees and using their advice while they progress in cymbal making
I had a 24 Sabian HH power bell ride...awesome ride and very clear, the bell is a monster ...
Lovely drumming.
2002 24” ride on my kit right now. Awesome.
Ian knows his stuff.❤
5:55 holy cow now that's a cymbal
Great ear....love Ian!!!

i love the crashes pAisTe the best cymbals¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

Ian's virtuosity is perfect for online cymbal critique...
Paiste makes good stuff. I see why the user base is so intense.
I'd like to know where this room is, it could solve my cymbal problems in about ten minutes flat.
Drum Tracks Direct
Probably in the cymbal factory in Nottwill in Switzerland.
@@hannes1734 Not in Nottwil. The Nottwil rooms have a lot of light due to large windows with a direct view on the lake.
Whatever. They have all cymbals as wished by the op.
Appreciate the candour, here. I use all 2002s and to my ear, nothing comes close.
Brutal.
4:59 as a drummer thats how I know I like a cymbal. When I dont know how to explain why I like it👌🏻
so cool , fab

これだけ年齢を重ねても、このプレイでただモノじゃ無いのがスグに分かる所、、、流石ですね。素晴らしい(^^♪
Man, that 24 tho... Haven't heard anything come close to my 24 A medium ride until I heard this.
Dark crashes are 19(?) 18 and 16?
I’m not a PAiSTe fan, but this is a very good video. Ian Paice is a great drummer.
"John Bonham used a 24" Ride" - Ian Paice - Me: Stewart Copeland did too back in the day
Copland was the master on the ride!
2 of my favs
Cozy Powell used one too his whole career.
Even the great Ian paice drops his sticks!
We’re these all masters being played in this video?
Master players do fail too !
Check Ian shouting at 10:05 when he loses his stick during a fill.
Please, please, PLEASE do this format with Vinnie Colaiuta!
Ha I didn't even know he switched to Paiste! I'll always associate him with Zildjian A Custom cymbals and Gretsch drums.
It's way too hard to tell with no eq, or in a groove. I love the honesty! Paiste, PLEASE start making your cymbal cleaner again!!!! We spend, or I spend a fortune on ykur cymbals. All other cleaners stink, or ruun em.
which maerial is this cymbal made from? b20?
HOT STUFF
I tend to think these are probably great sounding cymbals that are perhaps not being shown in their best light.
No need to cut out the stick drop... Class act
wow ! what a drummer \(*_*))
Le meilleur au monde
The dark ride is the secret saus here.
Christian, you should listen to Terry Keating's advice.
Who the hell am I to disagree with the great Ian Paice, but I will always go with Zildjian A's,always!!
Dark dry ride need to be whole line of cymbals. And i love masters dark crash rides they have nice trashy sound.
For shits, and giggles, try the 90’s Paiste Signature Dry Crisp Ride. Certainly smaller, but in my opinion, the best 20 inch ride ever manufactured.
at the time 10:04 Paice drops his stick but entirely normal for any drummer even though he is experienced as ian - NOTE: I doubt he liked these DARKS. he always used 2002 red label ahahahaha .......
Planetshakers uses 24”
Good idea but bad microphones !! Ian is one of the last living legends ...still on the road !!
Who else has been pronouncing "Paiste" incorrectly ?
I didn’t like any of those ride cymbals. “That doesn’t mean I’m right” applies I guess lol
Ian paice is what would happen if Marco Pierre white played the drums
Sorry imo those rides don’t good at all.
Too bad that the order of cymbals are not chronological
achei uma bosta o som dos pratos
A lot of wash in these cymbals. Ok for rock maybe, but for jazz too noisy.
