Man... from Hugo to this... to Dave. This is impressive. So many portable rigs out there are only portable while you carry them with your hands, not in a pocket. At least this gets closer stacking two instead of three components. I can't wait till the technology can trickle it down to credit card size and thickness... That would be a dream come true.
Thanks for the video. Just one point. The line level you referred to is in fact just a shortcut to line level but the volume can be adjusted when in this mode, this will set the output to 3V. This device has great versatility and IMO a Game Changer. Great as a portable and a desktop device. Not only that but at the price of £399 in the UK and $600 in the US "A Steal"all things considered
I had no idea what I was missing until I bought bought one a few weeks ago. The best $400 (used) I have ever put into audio equipment. Once a desktop version I available at this price, I will upgrade, but until then I am driving IEMs and Planars with the Chord.
@phototristan, a question. Which would sound better overall whilst using a HD650, A Valhalla 2 & Modi Multibit combo or the Mojo alone ? Primary use would be for movies at home, with occasional travel usage. Your opinion, please..
Difficult for me to say since I have not heard the Valhalla 2 or Modi and I don't like to comment on things I haven't heard. I can however tell you the Mojo drove my Sennheiser HD800S acceptably.
I'm about 7 year late into this but I wish I knew this route was much better than a separate amp, DAP, and the silly cable. Oh and my phone. I have recently been acquainted with the Dragonfly Cobalt and I have to say, I don't see much difference compared to the setup I previously had which was ALO National and AK120II. I am now waiting to try the Mojo albeit 1st gen. I'm sure the newest version has improvements over Mojo 1 but I am always about 5 years "new" behind.
Am thinking of getting this Mojo with HD800's as well (non S version), but was wondering if this little thing really has the power to push the 300ohm HD800's with authoritive bass and all, or if HD800 on bigger more powerful amps still shows a noticable difference? Previous to knowing about this Mojo, I was planning on getting a $400 Schiit Bifrost (dac) and $750 Violectric V100 (amp). It's not about loudness, it's about clarity, soundstage, control on that low end at a decent volume.
Hey phototristan ! I dont know what headamp to buy , i have k712pro and senn hd8dj and for now i drive them with a creative e5 [not bad but nothing special ] i dont need portability because i listen music only at home, so what should i buy ? 600.700 hundred dollars i dont want to spend more
Chord mojo 2 might be coming soon especially with the mojo being heavily discounted ATM - it's been 4 years since it's conception so due for updating..
Hola, por favor me decís que cable comprar para conectar la salida coaxial digital (RCA) de mi DVD a la entrada coaxial 3,5mm del mojo ? Muchas gracias !!
+Daniel Patino Vieito Thanks, That's good news. I know Tristan owned an LCD-2 & LCD-3 and he most certainly tried the Mojo with his LCD-3 before moving to the HD 800S.
Used as just a dac how does it stack up to gungnir, bifrost, and any other dacs you have tried? Im thinking of getting one to use as just a dac to with desktop amp, the same as I'm using my ifi idsd micro now....
Currently, i am using Bose Companion 5 as my desktop audio. And Chord mojo beats it hands down. In your video around 6 mins plus, you said that mojo does not sound as good as your desktop audio. Can you please tell me what brand and model you are using? I want one to replace the Bose as it's not 24 bits 96 KHz ready for Tidal MQA streams and mojo is.
+PHOTOTRISTAN How did you come to that conclusion? Did you try the line out to the Mjoulnir with a good cable? What differences could you describe between the two of them?
+Maxwell Herman The Mojo is not balanced and also does not have direct DAC output so it's a bit difficult to really compared the two. I have hooked up the Mojo via RCAs to my MJ2 however.
q: why would you use an unbalanced 3.5mm to balanced 4-pin xlr? Wouldn't you lose the point of the balanced connection by connecting from unbalanced to balanced?
People are complaining that it stops working before the first year. And the company doesn't give support to buyers outside Britain, even during warranty.
Martin Krenčey everybody say the same thing : chord mojo is the best of them , ifi isds micro has more power but not the same sound quality and is better build , OPPO HA2 seems to be in the midle , less power than isds but greater sound quality , so in the end mojo is the best overall if u pass about the overheat issue and lose sockets
Bobby Brian Thanks!!! Really appreciate it! Is there a comparison you have found by any chance? Would you mind sharing a link? I keep wondering if I'd miss the bass boost of the oppo or the ability to use it for charging a phone. Also the form factor makes it much easier to stack with a phone. Not to mention they supply a really nice and handy short lighting cable for doing that! So I wonder if giving up all that makes it worth it for the Mojo, which doesn't stack well, doesn't charge a phone (plus is super slow to charge compared to oppo)... Chord does sell a "cable pack" for 80-100€ that has this USB adapter that at least hides the Apple camera connection kit and does not require another cable for attachment. I have not seen a video of that unfortunately!
Martin Krenčey check the z review of chord mojo he makes a short comparison with oppo ha2, check the reviews for chord mojo on amazon u can find many comparison , check the video rev of chord mojo of thebestbassheadphonesare, and read the threads on headfiorg, imo check the new miscro isds black , seems to best a new king
Chord Mojo is definitely better than Oppo. That z review guy literally cannot tell a difference between DACs so I would take anything he says with a grain of salt.
Does it make sense to hook up the Mojo to my IBasso DX90 for greater sound quality or that just doesn't justify to carry the bigger combo around. I only use audiophile grade IEM's Thanks
+phototristan but the Mojo is not a player I don't want to use my phone to store my flac files. I mean which solution is best for portable hifi player, DX90 or DX90+mojo?
Yes, I got a Mojo myself and the sound quality is definitely a big jump from the Ibasso DX90 or the Fiio 5. The only issue you have to deal with is the size of the combo. Since the sound quality will be the one out of the Mojo and the player will be just the screen interface, in my opinion one of the best combos would be the AK100 + Mojo, very portable, powerful and sounds amazing
Emperor's new clothes trick again: I auditioned Hugo for deck use a couple of years ago and didn't notice any important difference to justify the price. I ended up buying Arcam IrDac. Nowadays I was looking for a mobile DAC and same thing happened. Finally I bought Fiio X5. I also can use it as PC/DAC and save iPhone battery , when I'm on the road. My point is that no because every reviewer says mojo is the best thing ever made, actually it is. It might be the proprietary chip a great technology advance. I'd give you that. However sonic results are quite similar compared to massive production chips. In either cases (Hugo/Mojo) the design of the chord products are really poor in terms of industrial design and haptics
one more question, Mojo into a line level device by hitting both volume buttons simulataneously ,works as a standalone dac,so volume button not working ? is it true ?
Think this looks the job, can never understand people buying the slimmest smartphone that costs $1000 saying it's beautiful then slapping a block on the back with cock rings?
Just don't buy it thinking of will work properly with Linux as they stated (before, this statement apparently is now gone). This thing can't do what a 200 euro iFI CAN do......

Sorry about the condition of my hand in this video. It was from a skateboard fall.
I use Mojo with a Audeze LCD-X. It’s a perfect combo, especially if you use the ROON player too. Great review. Thanks.

It's listenable but not as authoritative as a desktop amp. The HD800 does not have authoritative bass itself though.
pairing a portable device with a desktop can is not the way to go. My humble opinion.

Dont get your hope up. It’s 2020 and no 2. Cuz it was made perfect from the start.
They just need to fix the battery and thermal issue and call it V2
@@nevigo5519 you were saying ?
Hola, por favor me decís que cable comprar para conectar la salida coaxial digital (RCA) de mi DVD a la entrada coaxial 3,5mm del mojo ? Muchas gracias !!
I need to get my paws on one.
Tristan when are you gonna go all out and buys a Stax SR009 and BlueHawaii Amp????
+VeryCoolAlan Someone should send them to me and I'll review 'em.
Tristan, do you think the Mojo /LCD-2 would be a good combination?
+Daniel Patino Vieito Thanks, That's good news. I know Tristan owned an LCD-2 & LCD-3 and he most certainly tried the Mojo with his LCD-3 before moving to the HD 800S.
***** Dude, don't be sensitive. After all, I will be shoving $599.99 from my own pocket XD
The Audeze EL-8 and The Mojo is a perfect match, my combo. The LCD-2 and Mojo sounds amazing together, in my opinion.
I am pairing Mojo with HD600 but want to buy a planar headphone. Which one do you suggest improving HD600 and pairing with Mojo?
Alberto Martinez I just grabbed Audeze LCD-X > mojo > the bit opus 1 player and it's an awesome combo.
Finally I got MrSpeakers Ether Flow and it is as well awesome
Audeze lcd4!!
Used as just a dac how does it stack up to gungnir, bifrost, and any other dacs you have tried? Im thinking of getting one to use as just a dac to with desktop amp, the same as I'm using my ifi idsd micro now....
It's not as revealing or detailed but still sounds good. But this excels more as a portable than as a desktop IMO.
Currently I use the Schiit Gungnir Multibit DAC and Mjolnir2 amp. See my channel for reviews of each.
How will this sound with my se846 shure
How does the Mojo's dac section compare to the Gungir Multibit? Which do you think is better?
+Maxwell Herman The Gungnir Multibit is for sure better.
Can i use Radsone ES100 as source then connect to mojo?
How this compare to your pico power? Not sure whether you still have it.
I like the Mojo better however the Pico Power is only an amp, no DAC so they are a bit different in that respect.
where can I find that adaptor for the HD800? specific website?
q: why would you use an unbalanced 3.5mm to balanced 4-pin xlr? Wouldn't you lose the point of the balanced connection by connecting from unbalanced to balanced?
Yes, it's just so I don't have to change headphone cables.
Have you tried the Grace design m9xx and if you have. Would you do a mojo vs m9xx.
No, sure haven't.
People are complaining that it stops working before the first year. And the company doesn't give support to buyers outside Britain, even during warranty.

Good evening hoping if you can also review the poly again very much obliged
Thanks for the request.
Does it pair well with the Shure se846 ?
It literally pairs well with almost any headphones or in-ears.
Do i need an Amp to connect speakers to Mojo?
Yes, unless they're powered speakers or efficient ones.
@@phototristan cheers man
the mojo 2 is amazing , once you go chord you never go back / akm /sabre are dead to me lol
can you still use it while its charging ?
+Ron Bernard
Yes
+Ron Bernard Yep, I mention this in the video.
How does your HD 800 S sound on Mojo vs Schiit
+Paulo Angelo Remoroza Sounds good on both but better on the Schiit Mjolnir 2 for sure.
the question is : oppo ha2 se vs isds micro vs chord mojo ?
Bobby Brian have you found such comparison somewhere? I'm also very interested in that! Thanks

also curious how this stacks up against a oppo ha-2

The Mojo is better, I promise. I have compared them head to head. More power, air, resolution. Yes, everything is better!

Not gonna happen. You can use it with the battery but plugged in all the time without any issue.
thanks for the reply, what is the life span of the battery ? 5 years ? or more
one more question, Mojo into a line level device by hitting both volume buttons simulataneously ,works as a standalone dac,so volume button not working ? is it true ?
It just sets the right level for a line level output but does not lock the volume buttons.
