I messed with the character creator for 5 minutes last night, for the first time. I may be wrong, but I think you can get rid of the gray highlights by setting the variation slider to 0%.
I understand being frustrated with the state of development, especially if you are a long time backer. I also think you’ve let that negativity affect your judgement here.
Outside of the few real issues you noted (skin color for example), you completely fail to mention in your overwhelmingly negative “step backward” the fact that facial hair wasn’t possible at all until now. Additionally, you can save and export/import faces now, meaning when you do find one you like, you never have to fiddle with the creator again.
The new creator, while still in need of a few tweaks, is most DEFINITELY not a step backward.
I can get enough blinding negativity from Reddit, I don’t need it in my UA-cam feed.

As a long time backer is it as it is... there is NO reason to be disappointed right at this moment. there have been shit times for SC backers. Now is not one of them.
Y'all just haven't figured out how to use it yet, that's why you're struggling.
Part the problem is you do not understand the system, no notes either. You start with the texture that also gives you the base skin tone, but if adjust the color in the color box, it replaces rather than adds/combines, I believe this is a bug. If you are going for Nat King Cole black skin, then yes right now that is not possible.
I made jet black hair without the highlights but took some time to figure out. The blueish lighting they use in the CC makes color picking a little off when you get into the game which has more natural lighting.
The test build is to help work out these things and get feedback. You reported the issues you saw to IC and/or player feedback section, right?
Sorry, but you're wrong about the whole head. You can pick the full head by clicking right off the head (as soon as the cursor turn to the ) and then blend in the full head. The color thing, hopefully they add in what you are wanting.
To get rid of the white try setting the variation to 0%

Your may find your issue with the skin tone is just because you're not quite understanding how it works:
The skin tone is effected by TWO sources, the colour picker gradient you were using in the video and ALSO the bar above it marked "texture". The texture bar allows you to select which real-life head scan you want your skin tone to resemble and then the colour picker is there to let you refine/adjust it further. Because the default head is supposed to be "neutral", the default texture it uses is from a mid-toned head scan, that's why the colour picker can't make it quite as dark as you want, because it's adjusting from a lighter original skin tone. What you need to do is adjust the texture first to use a dark skinned head as the texture source (see where it says 6/15 by the bar, adjust that to 4/15 or 13/15 for the darkest skinned textures current available) and THEN use the colour picker to darken/lighten further as you desire.
As for the hair, try putting the colour picker right in the top right corner of the gradient and then slide the "variation" slider to 0. If that doesn't work try selecting black as the dye colour and select the "dye roots" option which should make all your hair the dye colour you selected I believe.
I genuinely hope that helps. And I'm sorry, but it seems a bit odd to take the time to put out a video bashing a new feature when you clearly haven't taken the time to fully understand the feature you're talking about.

And thanks, but no thanks; I've seen enough coverage of the character customiser to know that what you asked for can already be achieved (at very least in terms of a darker skin tone) so if you had a genuine issue with it still you could just say it here rather than trying to get an extra view on your other video.
I am reading text at the bottom of the video that states "TEST VERSION" and the PU is in ALPHA. That might be the reason for not having a full featured game. Every time i log into the game, i get a pop up telling me that the game is in early access and to expect glitches. It also states that features may be missing due to being in EARLY ACCESS. Does that notification not pop up when you open the game?

Obviously you don’t know how to use this new creation thing… you are not bound to only blending… you can click and drag and move and resize everything on the face… talk about the whole thing… you can make it look exactly how you want your just using the bare bones of the creation
This is still an alpha. Click on randomizer and you have an endless flow of heads.

2:10 the complaint about limited face styles... you didn't listen to the point in Citizen Con when they said only half of the styles were being put in 3.23, did you? The rest will come later. Just because you or I don't know why they can't implement the rest of the styles doesn't mean there's not a good reason. Acknowledge your ignorance and your frustration will fade.
4:00 as for all the imperfections and grays, I prefer the imperfections. It brings it more to reality. People are only perfectly tailored for a week at most, unless you go to the barber weekly, you'll have some imperfections. Having perfectly tailored faces actually brings me into uncanny valley.
As for the complaints about unfinished products... my man, stop following Alpha games if you want finished products. Stop backing early-access. This is entirely on you. Game development in Alpha will never deliver a complete feature until it's in Beta. It's the definition of what Alpha games are. Things change way too much in development and things are closely dependent on one another. Every change breaks something else. Features may need to change after another is added/changed. It's poor development strategy to finish features completely until most to all features are implemented in a basic state.
This is a massive improvement but yeah it's not finished. There may be inconveniences and bugs. Let them iterate. Stop expecting perfection every time. The only justified anger here is that we were repeatedly misled on the expected deadline of the game, which is clearly feeding all your other frustrations.
If you want complete features for SC, come back when 1.0 has a release date. That's when they'll start releasing complete features.

Okay I have some thoughts. I'm a black man as well so I feel you on a lot of your points. But I don't know how long you've been playing Star Citizen and how much of the media they put out that you consume, but they have said about everything they put in the game that it's an iteration every aspect they do is an iteration every new feature every function is going to come in waves. Teirs. This is just tier one of the creator. They don't put everything all in at once because one new line of code can break something else somewhere else and they have to figure out where it is. So they do the small incremental additions certain features and functions as their developed to make it a lot easier to stop out bugs. It cuts down on having to pull people from other aspects of development to help figure out what's causing the issue if you do incremental feature additions. They can throw everything in all at once and then pull a majority of the team off other features and updates to try to figure out how it broke something else in the game. And then all the people who don't care anything about the customizer will be bitching because something else in the game broke when they put this big update in for a character creator. Salvage is not finished. Cargo is not finished. When we get the DC's they won't be finished. Master modes won't be finished when it comes. I'm pretty sure you know this. It's been like this for years. And we're still at least another six seven years before they're actually ready for 1.0. hopefully I'm not sounding like a dick when I say this, but all you got to do is put a lot of us players do and just not play until whatever milestone you want this in-development project to get to, gets there. Also the points you made were good as far as skin tones etc. Share this with them. This the kind of stuff they need to see. You got Spectrum you got the issue counsel. Share this video on Spectrum. We need that range of skin tones from Steph Curry to Wesley Snipes. Lastly another reason they don't put everything in all at once with all new features and functions, is priorities. You already know this I'm sure. The priorities of the project shift from one thing to the next as development goals. Just like you are having issues with how they are rolling out the Creator function, other people are being just as loud about ships that they want to be released. Others are going to complain about the glitches with the new star map. Others are going to be complaining about they need more than two systems available to us. Others are going to be complaining about there's no in-game org tools. Others about the game economy. The list goes on. There's only so many people they have to work on so many things. I don't have any answers but if I complain I'm going to take in consideration the whole scope of the development they're trying to do and offer a solution to get what I want done and still be able to balance the other things that have to be taken into consideration. Of course you have all the rights in the world to voice how you feel. I highly encourage that for anyone. But if it's fair enough to have an opinion, I think it's also warranted to give a solution to your grievance. I've been following this project since 2015. I've sunken a lot of money into it. I've done the deep dives and the research and stuff like that and I get it. I'm not happy with how it's going of course not. But I get it. So I'm just going to let it play out. I stick my head in every now and again clock a few hours in game and then I'm out. Just wanted to share this point hopefully you'll agree with me to some extent. Apologies for this being so lengthy. Also apologies if something doesn't make sense because I'm voice texting because I'm driving and my fast country accent doesn't always translate to the speech recognition in this phone L

@@marcuswynn89 Actually there are reasons why those hairstyles aren't in yet, as they explained in the SCL about the new character customiser a few weeks ago (they haven't got them all working with helmets, hats, etc yet, was a big part of it)

You didn't explore the options well enough. Several of the issues you had are there, just not as intuitive to set it up. My character is inky black.

I'm all for criticizing CIG and/or SC game functions and I'm all for proper race representation in gaming, but most of this is just a rant.
If I we're you, I would reupload a version of this video that focuses on your critics of the skin and hair coloration. Better yet, just make a post on Spectrum cuz that would be a 30 second vid lol. If "not enough new hairstyles" is a major problem for you, then early access just might not be for you (which is totally fine). The rest of us are happy to be able to test new additions asap rather than waiting for 100% completion.

You are also in wave 1 PTU which is often has the bare basics. Why are there videos with black characters darker than your? I get your point about their 0, but you have miss represented the color selection. This is the same DNA system but it has been added too. I feel you need to take this down, go back and have another proper look

I hear you. The new character creator is weak. I had a hard time getting the blend feature to take effect. We'll see what happens as the patch unfolds.
For me this was the first impression of what to expect from this patch, I'm truly disappointed from the start. Agree, the character creator to me seems like a half step backward, I don't have a desire to make a freakish color character wearing drag makeup.
bruh, so many facts. cant make a simple black character in the game, period. we have 0 options. and then straight hair gets, not one, not two, but multiple upgrades and added hairstyles and then somebody tried to say "its not important" or "its not a priority". then why'd they get 30 more hairstyles on top of the 40 they already had and ethnic people still have 0 options other than going bald headed since the beginning of the game. for me, i know whats up with this game. we can make all these videos playing star citizen and giving them free publicity, and spend tons of money with the company, but they still act like we dont even exist. oh, they only have one kind of customer i guess? i used to stream this game. i have a fleet and all, but i dont have any character create options. they can do two things from here, either release a "im sorry, heres a hush-patch to satisfy yall at least a litte bit for the time being" and release us a little bit of options like what usually happen in these sort of situations, or they can just refuse to release any ethinic options period, thus saying something even LOUDER directly in my face although unspoken. if its f me, its f u too. thats simple and how nature works. we shouldnt have to jump up in down in the middle of the street with red jumpsuits on just to get attention of get 5% of what everybody else is getting. cig has a race issue is what its starting to feel like. we've been left out for over 10 years and over EVERY SINGLE PATCH. can u beleive that. jesus christ!

How many employees we got these days? It's been six months since they showed us a "studio polished" version of this. "It'll be in the game" how many other "tier zero" things have they scrapped and replaced at tier zero. "It'll be iterated on". Still waiting fellas. Still holding the line! We are re doing the flight model at the 12 year mark so. How basic are all the other features set to come with 3.23? I love the game despite being jaded. I am just not able to find an excuse these days.
